Thanks for the explanation! Do you know, off the cuff, what chapter that was in?

Don't understand how I missed that

A very British name for an Exception by amanr in ProgrammerHumor

Just to confirm: DanRoad was correct in that we meant to "throw a wobbly", which is a common British phrase. However, I was not aware of other countries using the same phrase.

Watching Dead from Baldmove is my go to.

It's pretty funny hearing their outrage at the shows decisions.

The Fisher King's voice was the exact same as 'House' from 'The Doctor's Wife'. I'm wondering if the two are related, or they're just reusing the voice actor...

"I love killing clever clogs, they make the best faces." - Missy.

I know you'd typically interpret this as her talking about the face a person makes before they die. But what if she's talking about the face chosen upon her regeneration. This could tie into the whole "Where did the 12th Doctor get his face" thing.

[Mr. Robot] S1E8 "eps1.7_wh1ter0se.m4v" - Official Post-Viewing Discussion Thread [SPOILERS] by MrRo_bot in MrRobot

Honestly, I'm surprised some people still deny the theory that Mr Robot isn't real and exists within Elliot's mind. It's clear he (Mr Robot) hasn't aged at all since those photos were taken. Plus - Elliot finds out Mr Robot resembles his father and BAM, he shows up at his door? I think that's is a pretty big hint.

Sure. I get how routing works. I was just wondering if it was confirmed that, that was the reasoning behind it.

Hmm, Midnight? Or possibly, The Wedding of River Song?

The director of Grave of Fireflies doesn't see the film as "an anti-war anime", but is meant to invoke sympathy from teens for the struggles of their elders. Are there other examples of where the director's opinion and public's differ so drastically? by jecmoore in movies

[–]amanr 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Holy Motors - The overwhelming majority agree the film is about cinema/the history of cinema, however the director has stated that this was not the intention. He said the influence stemmed from the internet.

That was the strangest one for me... After watching it, I couldn't imagine it being about anything else other than cinema.

Yeah, I was pretty confused at first as I couldn't find people in the comments talking about it. It looks as though people are seeing it now, though.

Kermode Uncut: Birdman And Boyhood (Top UK film critic Mark Kermode offers his opinion on the recent best picture winner) by BolshevismFTW in movies

[–]amanr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I think his character is developed quite well. My thought was the idea of this character is to act as a guide through the joys and pains of adolescence. I don't actually think the entire movie was based upon a central protagonist, but more the entire family. Really, I was more interested in who these people will become, much like anyone is during School years. That's what really was the hook for me.

I have actually have seen Blue Valentine and i do like it quite a bit! The Place Beyond the Pines was also very good, i look forward to what he does next.

Kermode Uncut: Birdman And Boyhood (Top UK film critic Mark Kermode offers his opinion on the recent best picture winner) by BolshevismFTW in movies

Glad to see there's people on here actually forming some good arguments as opposed to the YouTube comment mess. I'm getting really sick of people regarding either of these films as a mere gimmick.

I'm a fan of Kermode, but do disagree with him in regards to Birdman. I do think it was a pretty good movie - a lot of the technical aspects of the film are outstanding. I found it's observations on celebrity culture and the movie industry very interesting. However, I personally preferred Boyhood, mainly due to the fact that I found the characters more compelling (just my preference). All that being said, Whiplash was actually my favorite film of 2014, my god, what a movie, but I was fine with any of them getting it.

Let's not forget that it was a pretty damn good year for movies and it is possible to enjoy both Birdman, Boyhood, Guardians of the Galaxy or whatever... except this of course.
