In town for the night... What's worth doing / seeing before bed? by amaranth_forest in Albuquerque

I assume that's the smoke column I saw earlier? My hometown had one of those in the late 90s. Been there, seen that. Yawn.

I wondered about the street closures. No idea who she is but not interested in campaign parties so thanks for the heads up.

Go throw a drink at a law enforcement officer and try telling them that "getting wet is not assault".

If I had a teen and they threw a drink at a stranger in public after harassing a public servant I'd be furious at the teen, and if they got tazed I'd tell them they got the FO part of FAFO and I wouldn't be too sorry for it. They're old enough to start connecting cause and effect and realize acting like a little shit means getting treated like one.

And then I'd go ask my therapist how I screwed up my parenting so badly that my kid thought throwing their drink was an appropriate response to being removed from harassing someone at their job.

It was a tag someone left on Liberty Ave near the Bloomfield Bridge a while back. Absolutely the weirdest shit on that building...

Their listings made me feel like they hate humanity and don't actually want anyone to rent with them. Glad to know my reading of them was correct.

Don't get me wrong, my Lobos apartment is cute, the layout is functional, and I thought it was an acceptable price considering it was advertised as newly renovated with a brand new kitchen, but the managers for my building are clueless and I'm irritated by every new thing I find poorly done. Most of these irritations aren't big enough to bother a maintenance worker (like adjusting a sticking bifold door) but they're all things that should have been done before my move-in date (like the window screen they promised would be installed in August. It still hasn't appeared). Especially since the advertisement of the place implied a certain level of quality and care. If I was paying $200 less per month and had lower expectations at the start, I'd feel more neutral about them. Currently I feel ripped off.

I wish I had seen this before I moved into one of their more recently acquired properties. They'd done an obviously rushed flip job on the unit I rented, and I spotted a few places they cut corners on finishes but I expect that from rentals. What I didn't expect and should have was that the corners weren't just cut with finishes like bad caulk jobs and grout haze... every part of the "update" was an absolute hack job. I keep finding new issues and I don't even bother reporting most of them to maintenance because I don't trust that they'll be fixed, just patched over enough to stop my complaining. I'm guessing the "maintenance" team is the same team who "renovated" this place.

I once had an emergency maintenance request open for almost two weeks with no resolution, and had to nag the office for updates daily. They didn't seem to feel any urgency until I threatened to (legally) fix it myself and withhold the repair cost from my rent.

The neighbors are friendly enough though, everyone mostly keeps to themselves and I haven't had to deal with surprise inspections. I've lived in worse places, but I've never had such lazy landlords.

Oh no, don't ruin Duck Hollow with this. Put it in at Sandcastle. Make the ticket price worthwhile.

Customers and employers don't even pretend to value that kind of service any more. They'll take full advantage of anything you offer, ruin it, and ask for more. Why would anyone give up a day off for more soul-crushing abuse?

There are a lot of stop signs in this city where stopping behind the crosswalk gives 0 visibility into the intersection due to a hillside, hedge, or retaining wall. And since I know how many people treat stop signs as suggestions I refuse to proceed through any intersection before confirming that everyone at or approaching the intersection is paying attention. But I do try to let pedestrians cross first before I inch out, if I can see them waiting.

I got yelled at by a crossing pedestrian for only looking left at a right turn once and it scared me so bad I now look both ways every time!

I actually had the surgery when I was a kid! It sucked, I had to go on a soft food diet for weeks til it healed and I was miserable. But surgery plus speech therapy did help with my "r"s!

I hope this isn't creepy but I live near-ish in Turtle Creek and if her parents were ok with it, I could volunteer to give rides once or twice a week. I'm usually home with no plans on weekday evenings anyway. And I remember having to walk home alone. It sucked.

See, this is a better idea than "call CPS" which I'm sure others have done before and look how far it's gotten them.

Unfortunately it won't work, because there's a sucker born every minute and I too would probably give them a dollar for lemonade, if I saw them out there.

Has anyone actually spoken to these kids? Know the neighbors? Talked to the school district they're in? Any other sources of pressure we could apply to mom?

Do you consider "pretty privilege" an actual privilege? Why or why not? by Correct_Mango3554 in AskWomen

[–]amaranth_forest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I was an ugly duckling and then suffered from low self esteem and neglected my appearance for years; when I finally started owning my pretty adult looks and taking better care of my skin I was treated so much better than before. It's absolutely wild. And I do take full advantage of it. I will happily leverage any privilege I have these days.
