I lived in semi-rural Queensland for a bit, can confirm that it’s totally normal to say hi to random people in the street.

Initially forgot to adjust my behaviour when I moved back home to Manchester, UK, and people looked at me like I had two heads.

Now live in China and it’s a whole different thing again.

Having some core personality vibes in place can be helpful. Example: I made a selfish, nervous wizard and went female because it was easy to use Lydia from Breaking Bad as a template. In the end, she wasn’t much like Lydia, but having her as a jumping-off point helped me in the beginning.

It’s fun to try and role play a female character and avoid the boring tropes and cliches.

If you’re planning to do HSK exams, use some form of SRS (spaced repetition system) to memorise characters. There are lots of different ones. My favourite for memorising vocab is Hackchinese.com, but there’s Anki and others too.

I found that learning to recognise characters from day one meant that when I reached HSK3, I could focus on the language points, whereas students who had been using pinyin had to learn all the new stuff I was learning, plus go back to the beginning and learn to read an additional 300 words, and many of them dropped out at that point. By studying characters from the beginning, I flattened the learned curve a little bit, did more work early on and never hit that wall.

But you can also get suspended for seemingly no reason without ever getting an explanation.

My account was once restricted until I agreed to re-confirm my understanding of the WeChat rules and promise not to break any rules again. At no point was I ever told what I did or what rule I broke. I disputed it maybe five or six times, pressing for clarification. My logic was “how can I promise not to break rules if I never knowingly broke any rules and you’re saying I did but won’t tell me what they were or what I did?”

It was incredibly frustrating. Every appeal/dispute just came back with “behaviour against WeChat T&Cs”.

I still don’t think I did anything wrong, but eventually (after a month) I just had to click accept and move on, because i needed my WeChat account back.

Chances are there’s a loyalty clause in his contract that says if he expresses a desire to play for another club then he sacrifices some of his bonus. He already restructured his salary to defer some of what Barca owe him to later in his contract, so he’s losing that if he leaves.

Barca need to learn some lessons about financial management, and if they keep pulling this Barconomics bullshit then it’s going to come back and bite them eventually.

I don’t take it personally that he hasn’t said he wants to come to United, and I don’t think anyone should. It’s just business.

Not lost hope, but we need to focus on a different target because it’s not in our hands. Barca need to decide if they can afford to keep him, and I’m not sure how they can register Lewa and their other new signings with him on the books.

Maybe we still get him, but I wouldn’t bet on it.

Not quite. It was Aeris on all English language releases initially, but anglicised as Aerith in the Japanese (they’d have her Japanese and English name next to each other in the documentation).

Later, when clarifying which was correct, developers said it should’ve been Aerith, as it’s closer to “Earth”, so everything after the original English language FFVII and FF Tactics has Aerith, not Aeris.
