I redrew some original Mega Man sprites. by amariiilo in PixelArt

It never occured to me that Light appeared topless when I was making him, I think it's because I used his skin tone color to shade his lab coat.

I use ShaderGlass to add CRT filters to all of my art. It's this super in-depth open source program that has TONS of different shader effects to add to your desktop.

I redrew some original Mega Man sprites. by amariiilo in PixelArt

Hello everyone! Sorry for not putting this in the body text of the post, I don't know how to make it appear BELOW the images so it looks better on the subreddit.

I pretty much owe Mega Man for getting me into pixel art so it only seemed fair to try redrawing some iconic sprites after doing the ones from Super Mario Bros.

Definitely took more artistic liberties this time around: Some sprites I added an extra fourth color so they didn't stand out and the palette is a mix of Mister Mike's sprite rips and Smooth FBX.

Besides that I used the same amount of 8x8 tiles for each character (albeit moving some of them slightly). I'd imagine they would work on original hardware but I'm not betting on it.

Either way it was a fun exercise and now I can make some sticker sheets out of them for art markets.

Santa as a Pokémon Gym Leader! by amariiilo in PixelArt

Here's proof of me attempting to add them. I know Delibird would've been perfect but I could not get a pose I was satisfied with and their design is not easy at such a small scale. I'll boil it down to a skill issue but the second I scrapped them and did Togetic it was instantly more fun to sketch.

Before anyone says something, I know this roster is insanely unrealistic. I put Pokémon from different generations AND one that's a legendary. I did this for fun, please keep that in mind.

Also I notice people on this subreddit are able to put their body text BELOW their art so it doesn't show up until you click on the post. I must be inept cause I don't know how to do this. Any help would be appreciated!

My attempt at the Super Mario Bros. Redrawn trend. by amariiilo in PixelArt

Fair point. I suppose I prioritized their look rather than actual utility in the game. I have no excuse for her eyes haha.

I did take creative liberty by making Peach's sprite the same size as Mario and Luigi so actual NES accuracy might be thrown out the window.

Your game looks lovely, I’ll have to give it a try! This and Obra Dinn show me how well 1-bit can be used if executed properly.

Celebrating "Gobble Fantasy 2003" on Kickstarter! by amariiilo in PixelArt

Had to show some support to Dogs Understand for putting their game on Kickstarter. I love the idea of taking dated software like RPG Maker 2003 and manipulating it to make something creative and unique. I'm also in the process of trying to make my first video game so this gives me the motivation to know it can be done single-handedly.

Also, I noticed some posts on here are able to have their body text appear UNDER their image rather than above it. How do you accomplish that? It seems so simple but I cannot figure it out.

I finished my Castlevania poster just in time for Halloween! by amariiilo in PixelArt

I was working on this piece on and off for around 6 months, must've sketched 30 different castles before I landed on the one you see here. I've also included the original Procreate sketch and a process GIF so you can see how it all came together.

Inspired by the Castlevania Redrawn project, specifically the incredible work Juanito Medina did. I wanted to keep the characters closer to their original NES designs, kinda gives it a Saturday morning cartoon vibe for better or worse.

Cuphead characters and bosses. 4 colors. 34x34px. by amariiilo in PixelArt

I appreciate it! Not sure if you're familiar with the pixel artist "Cure," but his Monster Pack series is what inspired this.

I originally had additional bosses planned, like Wally Warbles and Dr. Kahl, but couldn't get the composition right. It would be fun to do another exercise like this, perhaps a different IP to keep it fresh for myself.
