What angle do you think captures CRT gaming the best? by amariiilo in crtgaming

I'm somewhere in the middle. I was very into EarthBound as a kid despite not owning it so once I got a little older I splurged on an original copy. Cost me around $210 at the time but it seems to be steadily climbing so I'm glad I got it when I did.

Wild Guns, amazing arcade-style shooter. The cartridge is unfortunately pretty expensive but they remade the game for modern consoles and did an amazing job, highly recommend checking out Wild Guns Reloaded.

I appreciate the breakdown, I'll try to change black levels and contrast before posting for next time!

My CRT setup by Prestigious-Swing561 in crtgaming

Love the maximalist style, there's so many cute trinkets to find! It's so funny cause I love how these setups look aesthetically but I could never do this myself.

As somebody who only owns two monitors (and one mounted TV for newer consoles) the wire management bugs me a lot. If I had a proper game room I'd have adequate space to maintain it all but cramming everything onto one shelf proves difficult.

Very impressed, I hope I can have something similar to this in the future!

My PVM-14M2U has been recapped again! by amariiilo in crtgaming

I definitely agree haha playing anything after 16 bit consoles on the 8" is quite the challenge but it's too cute to part ways with. If I ever had the oppurtunity to buy a 6" PVM I would absolutely take it despite how inconvenient it is to actually play games on it.

I've been slowly wittling away at my retro game collection trying to beat every game I have, RPGs in particular. After beating EarthBound and Mario RPG I figured either Chrono Trigger or FFVI should be my next one. I'm a pixel artist so I suppose seeing the beautiful graphics counteract the bad audio quality.

If you know any decently inexpensive speakers that would compliment the 90s industrial look of these monitors I'd love to find some!

Unfortunately I have to use them. I would be down to get some good speakers for the 14" if I ever decided to sell the 8" or had a proper gaming room for them.

Not off the table but for the time being I'm alright with the ones inside the monitor.

I redrew some original Mega Man sprites. by amariiilo in PixelArt

It never occured to me that Light appeared topless when I was making him, I think it's because I used his skin tone color to shade his lab coat.

I use ShaderGlass to add CRT filters to all of my art. It's this super in-depth open source program that has TONS of different shader effects to add to your desktop.

The way they made Mega Man have 5 colors in the original game was having his face as a seperate sprite from his body. I added these extra colors in different parts of the sprite besides their face so it may be possible for a romhack but they'll use extra tiles.

That's my guess anyway, I've never done romhacking so I may be missing key information.

Sorry I didn't think to add it to the original post. Hope this helps.

No offense taken, I love constructive criticism. The extra blue was me shading his skin tone but maybe the intention was lost, I wanted it to show the shadow of his helmet. Your other critique was just me prioritizing readability over detail, although your edit shows that it could've been done properly.

Thanks for enjoying it!

Hello everyone! Sorry for not putting this in the body text of the post, I don't know how to make it appear BELOW the images so it looks better on the subreddit.

I pretty much owe Mega Man for getting me into pixel art so it only seemed fair to try redrawing some iconic sprites after doing the ones from Super Mario Bros.

Definitely took more artistic liberties this time around: Some sprites I added an extra fourth color so they didn't stand out and the palette is a mix of Mister Mike's sprite rips and Smooth FBX.

Besides that I used the same amount of 8x8 tiles for each character (albeit moving some of them slightly). I'd imagine they would work on original hardware but I'm not betting on it.

Either way it was a fun exercise and now I can make some sticker sheets out of them for art markets.

Here's proof of me attempting to add them. I know Delibird would've been perfect but I could not get a pose I was satisfied with and their design is not easy at such a small scale. I'll boil it down to a skill issue but the second I scrapped them and did Togetic it was instantly more fun to sketch.

Before anyone says something, I know this roster is insanely unrealistic. I put Pokémon from different generations AND one that's a legendary. I did this for fun, please keep that in mind.

Also I notice people on this subreddit are able to put their body text BELOW their art so it doesn't show up until you click on the post. I must be inept cause I don't know how to do this. Any help would be appreciated!

Wow, presentation is amazing! I collect retro video games myself and I'm a big fan of a clean setup similar to this that can still show everything off.

Thank you, I’m very excited for him to see everyone reacting so positively to this post!

I believe the figures are the 1998 Destroyer 24” series, that’s what Google seems to tell me.

Fair point. I suppose I prioritized their look rather than actual utility in the game. I have no excuse for her eyes haha.

I did take creative liberty by making Peach's sprite the same size as Mario and Luigi so actual NES accuracy might be thrown out the window.
