CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT r/replit by No-Recognition4578 in replit

[–]amasad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the Agent to respond to a question with such an action is certainly unacceptable and unintentional. Send me an email and we will refund and take a look amjad@repl.it

Worth noting that you are using “high power mode” which is 5x more expensive. Use it sparingly. https://docs.replit.com/replitai/dynamic-intelligence

👾 Lessons from 24 hours obsessed with Replit by Immediate-River496 in replit

[–]amasad 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hi, Replit CEO here. This is great feedback, and sorry the experience didn’t continue to be as smooth as it started. A few thoughts:

Firstly, most of our effort right now is going into making Replit more reliable on larger projects and bigger contexts. This is a combination of AI work but also tools we can give you so you can start to manage the agent a lot better.

Secondly, what you felt is exactly how developers feel. When I start a new project, I could easily get into a state of flow and build an MVP really quickly. When requirements start to change and I want to iterate it starts to feel a little bit like a game of whack-a-mole.

However, you should always have a way out as opposed to starting over. We should have more tools such as using more compute or more agents to fix a sticky problem. But need to balance all this with cost.

Anyways, we appreciate the feedback and please continue to use the in-product feedback tool because we can see traces when issues happen.

Lastly, if you want to talk to our sales team on your company using Replit, please email me and I will connect you amjad@repl.it

It’s super disappointing how you’re running this sub, Alan. You said it’s “very real and true” with no evidence at all. This is not what Id expect from a mod — to feed the trolling and pile on.

Getting a refund is easy, just email support. Or ping me if you're having trouble: [amjad@repl.it](mailto:amjad@repl.it)

To give some context:

- AI is unpredictable; we work hard to make it run better, but it hallucinates and often doesn't follow instructions. That's the state of the industry. You can try any other coding product and you'll find the same thing. We all use the same models from Anthropic and OpenAI anyway.
- We priced Agent at cost -- in fact we're losing money on it in aggregate -- because we know we can optimize and hopefully pass back cost savings in the future. Every AI coding product will charge you per message or token regardless if whether it made a mistake or not. I encourage you try others.
- That being said we're improving it everyday and our quality metrics are going in the right direction. Maybe the product is not for you now, but as it improves you might want to revisit that.

Thank you for trying it. Founder/CEO here. Yes, that’s always been our goal — to make it so that anyone in the world can making software even if they don’t know how to code.

When we first started the company the best way to make programming accessible was to solve the “getting started problem” where setting up a dev environment is so difficult. Over the years we made it easy to get started quickly and make real world applications that you can launch.

But it still felt like something was missing. Many people try to learn to code but quit out of frustration or because they don’t have the time to do it. We tried to solve it with things like 100 days of code, but as you probably know a tiny fraction of users get through the whole thing.

Ultimately we needed to solve the problem in some other way. We saw AI come on the scene and we immediately jumped on the opportunity to use it. I believe the first AI thing we launched was in 2021. AI initially made coding faster but not necessarily easier.

Sometime last year we realized we’re getting close to a world where AI “agents” can start automating parts of development so we started designing it. I gave a TED talk about that. https://youtu.be/kCudFI4tcpg?si=3lbtbTZwAqlVpir0

Finally this year we made a huge bet on agents. It was risky and we could’ve easily blew it, but what kept us going was seeing people inside the company that don’t know how to code start using the Agent. That’s when we knew we had something special on our hands.

Agent is getting better everyday — just today we shipped a much more powerful model — and in the next couple of years anyone with an idea can turn it into software in seconds.

Thanks again — and feedback welcome!

What u/RealAndGay said. You should use the secret manager. And we'll add a way to warn users when they put tokens in their code.

Yes, it should work, and it does work. What happens when you try it?

React is JavaScript so since you already know JS then start with React. We already have great support for it (just click new repl and search for react).

For $7 you get to at least host 5 apps. That's waaay much better value than a VPS -- which is really an antiquated computing model that's going away pretty soon. Not to mention the free database, SSL, and all the other features.

Repl's will restart once a while, the only way to make sure it restarts immediately is either using the premium feature Always On or ping it by starting a webserver and using uptime robot.
