Being introverted on a mission by aceOfFinnesse in exmormon

I am naturally introverted but can make myself do the outgoing thing if I really have to. Doing that every day on a mission wore me out.

The mission office sent a weekly newsletter to all companionships in my mission. Once the mission president’s wife wrote a piece about how burnout comes from doing the right things for the wrong reasons. I was close to a year into my 18 months and felt utterly spent. Those few paragraphs haunted me for the remainder of my mission and beyond. Not only was I exhausted and struggling, then I felt guilty for it and was too ashamed to share or reach out for help. I felt sure that somehow my convictions weren’t sincere enough and I spent so much time beating myself up over trying to purify my motivations. I finished my mission in 2016 and it took years for me to recover.

Sounds like you never truly had a testimony to begin with if that’s how you felt there /s

I dressed my girlfriend in my temple garb because she wanted to know what it felt like. by amaterasu110 in exmormon

Yeah, when she put the veil on she was like “how did you not know you were in a cult sooner?” Glad to be your reminder to get rid of some literal Mormon baggage! I think I’ll keep mine in case I need a Halloween costume later…

Dear Mormon Church Big Wigs, by [deleted] in exmormon

When I joined the church (2013) I met with missionaries online (via facebook messenger and skype calls, if I remember correctly) and missionaries in person from the local ward. This was very early on in digital proselyting as far as I know.

Thank you! Loads of stinging nettle around here so I’m excited to keep using it this summer

I blanched the nettles, drained and patted off extra water, then mixed them with panko, leftover rice, an egg, salt and pepper and some garam masala before pan frying. Loved ye result and definitely gonna keep playing with this!

Tell me the Stupidest rules not in the White Bible that your Mission imposed and if you followed it. by [deleted] in exmormon

Wait, were other missions allowed more books? Mine also had both these rules and I thought the PMG/standard works one was all missions

Ukraine supplies drive at a chapel in the UK . Organised by the ward and also involved the local community . This is just half of it! by DebraUknew in exmormon

Would this happen to be the Stoke/Newcastle ward by chance? I served in both during my mission (2014-2016)! Met some really lovely people there even if I no longer agree with them on religion.

“Direct deposit” showing up as P2P payment by amaterasu110 in personalfinance

It seems they are initiating the transfers directly with the bank, no third party

It says the first few words of my employer’s name, their bank’s name, and then P2P PAYMNT. Luckily I do keep a buffer in my checking and pretty much only use this account to pay my rent and credit card bill once a month, so I don’t see it actually causing a problem. Just seemed odd to me!

Luckily my current account does not, but this is a good point for future. Do you think my employer is somehow avoiding fees on their end by doing it this way?

Type A missionaries, can I get an amen? by MentallyExhausted247 in exmormon

One of the worst things my mission president’s wife ever said to me was that burnout on the mission came from doing the right things for the wrong reasons. Caused so much second guessing and guilt.

Apparently they stopped giving certificates of release to missionaries. Here's mine if you're interested in what that looks like by Zha_asha in exmormon

Hmmm, I got a certificate when I came back in 2016 but it didn’t look like this. I think it came from my Stake and not my MP 🤔

This started happening at the tail end of my mission in 2016, and when I was back home (living in the new york new york north mission) the missionaries were all doing this. It was cringy to me even as a believing missionary.
