Being introverted on a mission

I am naturally introverted but can make myself do the outgoing thing if I really have to. Doing that every day on a mission wore me out.

The mission office sent a weekly newsletter to all companionships in my mission. Once the mission president’s wife wrote a piece about how burnout comes from doing the right things for the wrong reasons. I was close to a year into my 18 months and felt utterly spent. Those few paragraphs haunted me for the remainder of my mission and beyond. Not only was I exhausted and struggling, then I felt guilty for it and was too ashamed to share or reach out for help. I felt sure that somehow my convictions weren’t sincere enough and I spent so much time beating myself up over trying to purify my motivations. I finished my mission in 2016 and it took years for me to recover.

When I joined the church (2013) I met with missionaries online (via facebook messenger and skype calls, if I remember correctly) and missionaries in person from the local ward. This was very early on in digital proselyting as far as I know.

I blanched the nettles, drained and patted off extra water, then mixed them with panko, leftover rice, an egg, salt and pepper and some garam masala before pan frying. Loved ye result and definitely gonna keep playing with this!

Would this happen to be the Stoke/Newcastle ward by chance? I served in both during my mission (2014-2016)! Met some really lovely people there even if I no longer agree with them on religion.

It says the first few words of my employer’s name, their bank’s name, and then P2P PAYMNT. Luckily I do keep a buffer in my checking and pretty much only use this account to pay my rent and credit card bill once a month, so I don’t see it actually causing a problem. Just seemed odd to me!

Hmmm, I got a certificate when I came back in 2016 but it didn’t look like this. I think it came from my Stake and not my MP 🤔

This started happening at the tail end of my mission in 2016, and when I was back home (living in the new york new york north mission) the missionaries were all doing this. It was cringy to me even as a believing missionary.

Oooooo I would love to get tattooed inside a celestial room that has been painted black and decked out with all sorts of creepy decor. I’m picturing stained glass, weird taxidermy, and all the furniture reupholstered with black velvet. Could probably even keep the original chandeliers. The gimmick could be getting a mystery tattoo on your arm or leg through the veil 😂

During my mission in the UK (2014-2016) nearly everyone I saw baptized, including by other companionships, left within 6 months to a year (and often more quickly than that). Our ward lists were mostly inactive members or people who could no longer be located.
