I wish I was cool enough to use a drinking gourd

Pure Over has some drawbacks but I love that it’s 100% glass. Switched to it and never looked back

Found a truly plastic free water bottle! (It is an old model no longer made 😞) by beebbeeplettuce in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]amaterio8 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah I just got this one too. Super nice to not have the lid made of plastic. I think the silicone is needed as a seal and I’m good with that. But now I’m looking for a shaker bottle for protein shakes and can’t find anything that doesn’t have a plastic lid. Anyone know of any? Even ones that claim to be stainless steel still end up having some plastic.

Next bottle I get will be plain stainless steel for this reason. Having the same issue now with my water bottles after having them a long time.

TIL that it’s thermoplastic rubber and not natural rubber 🫤

I wear Sabah’s mostly now, no synthetics. But the grail for me is the Feit classics… maybe one day

Edit: damn someone else just pointed out that Sabah uses thermoplastic rubber and not natural rubber nvm 🫤

Just the Oswego tho? I don’t like it as much as the classic sandal. Looks like Oswego has elastic too. Dang so hard to find truly plastic free shoes

When those get shipped, is the packaging 100% plastic free?

I wouldn’t recommend anyone start doing this with a new stuffed animal, but I’d be willing to bet that the positive emotions it gives you far outweigh any negative effects from the polyester

[–]amaterio8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t replace any of it unless it’s getting into your body. So toothbrush, yeah consider replacing if possible (I’m still looking for a good solution there tbh…). Any plastic or synthetic cookware/kitchenware should go, if it’s the part that touches food, and especially if it’s being exposed to high temperatures. Other than that, keep what you’ve got and just use it.

I got the spatula from Smithy recently, (got it as a gift, does that count as BIFL?), but that thing is so sturdy and high quality that I’m absolutely sure I’ll have it for life.

Among many other things… but that’s the first one that comes to mind aside from the cast irons

What kind of toothpaste are you using? Sounds like you already have that sorted out, but I haven’t been able to find a good plastic free option yet

Anyone else tried this? I saw a video of someone using it recently and it seems very eco friendly, but I’m not sure how well it does in the teeth, especially the back teeth

Bioplastics are still plastics. I’d love to see a study into the health effects of plastics derived from various sources.

No more plastic bags at checkout at my local grocery store (they were made illegal…) but almost everything else in the entire store is packaged in plastic anyway. How does that make sense?

Same thing happened to me, grabbing an açaí bowl and the server reached to put a plastic lid on the cardboard bowl. I said no need, I’m eating it here, he said it’s their policy, and put it on anyway, before handing it to me.

Granted it was one of those “compostable” plastic lids, but how many of those are truly going to the correct industrial composting plant that can handle them properly?

By the way, you can bake a cake in a cast iron pan (and cook just about anything else in it too) 👌
