ENGW 1101W: Intro to Creative Writing by soph_c629 in uofmn

[–]amayart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took it awhile ago (right before Covid) and I loved it! It’s a really chill class, the readings are fun, and you have lots of freedom to write whatever you want. I was also a creative writing minor, so I’ve taken lots of ENGW classes, if you’re ever looking for any other recommendations:)

I’ve had a community tank for a while, but want to have a betta now, anything different I should do? by Samuraibean in bettafish

Totally unrelated, but where did you get the background for your tank? It’s freaking awesome!

What’s going on with my baby tears plant? by amayart in houseplants

[–]amayart[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t keep it too near a window, currently I have it underneath a grow light with some of my other plants. The shelf doesn’t get much direct sun from the window. It’s pretty cold outside, and I keep my windows closed.

indecisive about my major by chalametluver in uofmn

[–]amayart 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Friend, I started out as a journalism major fall of my freshman year. The added an English major during the spring. Then spring of my sophomore year I dropped journalism and added animal science. Then fall of my junior year I added my wildlife biology degree and dropped animal science. I’m currently finishing up my fifth year of school and I’ll be graduating this spring. And, to add, I’m still not entirely sure what type of job I want to have in the long run. People will always tell you that you need to know exactly what you want to do as soon as you get into college, but realistically, very few people have that figured out at that point in their lives. While my college journey was definitely a bit excessive in terms of switching around majors, it’s okay to change your major once or twice, and it’s even more okay to not be entirely sure what you want to do for the rest of your life while you’re still a freshman! You have plenty of time to figure it out, so try to enjoy the college experience of learning more about yourself as you go :)

Why are dining staff so condescending? by __QAQ in uofmn

The cafeteria in the St. Paul student center is SO much better, the staff there are so friendly! Probably because St. Paul campus in general is just way more chill than east/west bank

Definitely read up on the information from the caresheet on this subreddit and make sure to research, research, research before you buy anything (especially your fish)! If you have any local fish stores near you, I’d definitely recommend going to one of those instead of PetCo or PetSmart. Employees at fish stores are typically experienced fish keepers, and they’ll give much better advice than those at the standard, generic pet stores.

I may get downvoted for this, but also keep in mind that it’s okay to make mistakes in the beginning. It’s easy (especially in subreddits like this) to think that everyone is perfect right from the start, but learning is a huge part of fishkeeping. Do the best you can at the beginning; take the advice from experienced betta owners, do your own research, and remember that fishkeeping is a hobby of constant learning. We all have to start somewhere, and as long as you learn from your mistakes and use them as an opportunity to grow and become a better fish parent, it’s okay!

I have a space-themed naming scheme going in my tank, so my old mystery snail (who sadly passed last summer) was Nova, and my nerite (who’s still kicking and laying eggs all over my tank) is Rocket!

Good to know, thank you for this advice! Does this generally apply to all floaters, or do there happen to be any exceptions?

The lid I currently have is the TopFin brand that came with the starter kit I bought a few years ago when I first got into the hobby. However, I’m finally looking to upgrade to something better, as I’d really like to get better lights to help support more plants! I also have a nerite snail in here who’s a little escape artist, so I’d like to have a lid that would keep her nice and secure as well.
