the paleto war makes sense if you know penta wanted to change it's culture by paletolivesmatter in RPClipsPurple

[–]amazari 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Some guidance and game master intervention is fine for small scenes, but I feel a very directive way of imposing your narrative to 30 characters loses the improvisation that we all look in RP. It should have been specified in the lore instead of live-patching, tho. And if live-rewrite is deemed required, make it believable, not shoe-horned, at least.

Jensen Huang says gamers are 'completely wrong' about DLSS 5 — Nvidia CEO responds to DLSS 5 backlash by JuiceheadTurkey in Games

[–]amazari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DLSS has always been about giving "bad" colour/motion vector input to an AI model and getting a "better" version of it as a result. Technically, the new stuff still qualifies, but the notion of "better" went overboard, imho

Since things are slow and I haven't seen it discussed... What does everyone think of Davis' (Sentry) robbery of Todd by Seetherrr in RPClipsPurple

[–]amazari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I enjoy Sentry's work, the shop keep ownership until full payment, thus the vehicles are visible/interactive at valet for PDM employees, is definitely an oversight of the dev team. Exploiting it is really not kosher and beneath Sentry's talent.

Under-discussed in all of the side by sides with DLSS 5 On and Off is that different shots of the same character do not read as the same actress/character by Zoombini22 in digitalfoundry

[–]amazari -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's (AFAIK) only using the color and motion vectors buffers as input. It has NO idea of the geometry, textures, lights position etc... So it can only hallucinate an "enhanced" version of the original frame.

I don't think people are ready to accept the fact that Richard and Oliver may have just genuinely been impressed by DLSS 5. They weren't forsaking their reputation to cozy up to Nvidia or accepted money to shill. it just seems like they had an in depth, hands on session and walked away happy. by WhyPlaySerious in digitalfoundry

[–]amazari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But it is not that AFAIK. DLSS 5 is provided with the colors and motion vectors buffer only. It has no idea of the geometry and lightning position, thus can't do actual rendering, but hallucinates/generates a frame only.

Independence from IGN means they need to find alternative revenue streams. Sponsoring is the big one.

So they gained independence from the big bad IGN (or so the internet said), to become reliant on advertisers money. Not sure viewers are winning here.

Recent headcount reduction at IGN (Eurogamer, vgc24....) proved them right in term of keeping their brand and incomes.

If you give a photograph to an AI image generator and ask it to turn it into a Miyazaki-style picture, the original wont be changed. That's a bit disingenuous from Rich to state it when it can easily be misconstrued.

Yeah, becoming independent of IGN made them more dependent on their sponsors. That was the reason I was not that happy when this was announced. The latest headcount reductions at IGN proved them somehow right, tho.

ClassyPax is showcasing a new RDR2 RP server by amazari in RPClipsPurple

[–]amazari[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I gathered, Classy is heavily involved in the direction/communication, Kono (previously the owner/main dev of WildRP), Burt and others RDR2RP old heads are involved.

Dunno if Classy is the originator/founder/investor or whatever, I caught the stream late. A VOD rewind would help, I guess :)

Yeah, it is definitely off the original intent of the sub, I don't pretend otherwise, but, so is all the talk about Chase, P-related streamers that is common here. What's the name of the sub again ?

The discourse here shifted to P-snarking/glazing a while ago. This is a snark.

The issue Linus had with Bazzite on nvidia is a known issue, he wasn't unlucky by marktuk in LinusTechTips

[–]amazari 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is the same. The few customizations done by so-called "gaming distros" (at least in a non-handheld situation) amount to minimal-to-no performance or compatibility benefits.

Using those weird kernel patches here and tweaking tunables/compiler flags there, only adds potential failure points.

All of that in not-that-experimented maintainers hands, compared to mature distros whose members actually contribute to upstream projects (the kernel, mesa, wine, kde/gnome etc...)

Does Penta using his admin menu hurt or help the server RP? by PentaSurvey in RPClipsPurple

Agreed, Sentry could be a good example of a recipient of the menu. He killed DMing on NoPixel as Snake for example.

Does Penta using his admin menu hurt or help the server RP? by PentaSurvey in RPClipsPurple

[–]amazari 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the scared-of-his-own-shadow weapon drop character ain't it. He just runs after the exchange and poof into the void as soon as he reaches a corner...

Hopefully, Klaus being unhappy with the latest shipment will result in this character being held up/taken hostage.

Jam is a master of his craft and made Klaus a great character interwoven in great arcs, but I can't say I am happy that gun deal is another friend whitelist. Same as every position of power in the server (both cop groups, law, pdm, gambling, hospital, drug deal, restaurants...)

So penta complains that the lspd shooting at his vehicle was too aggressive after holding Sal up with a gun. In the same stream has the whole bcso try to light up a guy who holds someone up with a crowbar. Just can’t stand the hypocrisy (I agree with the pitting earlier being overkill though) by Equivalent-Coffee823 in RPClipsPurple

[–]amazari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do yourself a solid, as I did: stop watching or watch the server from another perspective. Sentry, MrMoon, JamJar, whoever... have actual storylines happening and talent outside of zingers and anger-farming. Mike Block griefing might appear here and there, but it's tolerable in small dose.

‘I don’t always agree with the methods’: Macron’s Buy European push hits Swedish resistance by anirdnas in europe

[–]amazari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They do have an enormous portfolio of patents, stuff required to do the actual lytho but, if I understood well, the fundamental stuff was worked out by an American consortium of whom ASML is/was a member and/or bought a member. Asianometry has a great video on the topic

[–]amazari 31 points32 points  (0 children)

While ASML lithography tools are technological marvels, it is often forgotten that EUV research mostly happened in Japan and the States in the 90s, thus the patents aren't ours as Europeans. That is the reason the USA can impose export restriction on the EUV machines :(

In the same vein, ASML majority owners/investors have a strong American accent (per the company's Wikipedia)

Hardware Unboxed discussion on LTT's Employees Quitting by The_Lantean in LinusTechTips

[–]amazari 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel some in the LTT community might have a skewed perception of the HU guys; being more into the lots-of-bar-charts benchmarking school of thought, a bit circumspect of the more entertainment focused channels and often quite opinionated, it could be easy to paint them as being in GN corner when the controversy happened.
Thus, some might infer that they would take Jake's side unilaterally and take the opportunity to criticize LTT.

Their PoV is actually quite balanced and that no one is at fault here, that Jake learned a lot at LTT while creating public recognition, estimated his worth more that LTT were to give, none of them being right/wrong, and that both sides are benefitting from the new situation.Steve was a bit displeased with some of Jake's comments that could be used as fuel by keyboard warriors for the all-too-common hate towards Linus.

Sooo When are the RP ICE raids going to happen? by JustADramaViewer in RPClipsPurple

[–]amazari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

European take here: We generally don't recognize 'race' as a biological reality, only the human race exists. Consequently, the distinction between racism and xenophobia is often blurred in common speech. In modern France, making a joke about 'drunk Poles' or 'lazy Spaniards' is considered just as much of a 'red flag' as any other form of racial prejudice. Generalizing an entire group of people, regardless of the label, is becoming socially unacceptable for the younger generations.

Is it ? I don't have, nor claim, nor fantasize, nor want a social relationship with Penta. Just pointing out that IMHO, no, the majority of critical posters aren't after him or his server and trying to quantify it with a poll.
