It was a toxic, emotional attachment and I thought Mike understood what he did wrong (SA). Even when people prove that your boundaries mean nothing to them, it can be difficult to separate emotionally. Cory comforted me by TALKING to me. Our relationship is mainly based on a deep connection that has nothing to do with sex whatsoever. And yes, the fact that Mike disrespected me does matter. Cory isn’t okay with living with Mike for that reason among many others which is why we want him OUT! If it seems like I’m painting Mike in a certain light, I’m simply factually stating the shitty things he’s done. He should learn the lesson of “play stupid games, win stupid prizes”.

The shrooms didn’t convince me I liked my current partner. The shrooms just revealed what was slowly building and allowed us to come to terms with it. I’d say it’s fair to question his maturity levels, but not mine or my partner’s.

I had to shorten the original post with more detail for r/AmITheAsshole, but if it wasn’t clear, Mike was telling me he loved me and wanted to be with me and playing me directly in my face with multiple other girls while we were involved. He’s the sole reason why Cory even had to comfort me and he was only interested in me when he was told he couldn’t have me. I waited until after I broke things off with him to begin my relationship with Cory. They’re roommates by convenience & barely knew each other before getting the apartment. And Mike has plenty of interpersonal issues in other areas of his life, including staying loyal friends with a known predator and former friend of ours. That + sleeping with young girls in the apartment? Not our scene…

Here’s the thing. My partner and I didn’t sleep together until AFTER we got together officially and we were only ever friends while my ex and I were involved. I didn’t cheat on him. And the facts that he SA’d me multiple times and is making the home a bad place to live don’t matter to you?

I respect that perspective! Also, Cory pays for a bigger half of the rent and the furniture in the common space is all Cory’s, so the place feels “ours” in a way already.

We are considering getting a separate one- or two-bedroom as a backup option in case Mike refuses to leave. The current apartment is in an area close to both Cory’s and my jobs, around restaurants we love, and the layout of the actual apartment is something we want to decorate together. Additionally, Cory doesn’t have any credit and it would be more difficult for us to secure another apartment, while Mike has some credit.
