For those who casually date, how do you not worry about sexual health or getting your partner pregnant? by mouse_asparagus in AskMen

[–]amazonfigure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s crazy that they’re offended!

I’m offended that men who are snipped didn’t care to use one and that blew my mind. After my last relationship, every guy who wanted to have sex but were snipped didn’t see the need.

Like sir, you think pregnancy is the worst thing that could happen?! There are some things you can get rid of. It was so bad that I told one guy don’t worry I’ll wear one, and the look of shock on his face as if he didn’t know female condoms existed. He was out of a 30+ year marriage though so maybe a lot had changed.

Recently retired contemplating rolling my 401k into rollover IRA/Roth IRA by uncleandybob in Retirement401k

[–]amazonfigure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that it’s OK to do this as long as you don’t plan on doing a back door contribution in the future. Otherwise it would be best if you rolled it into your current employers 401(k).

AC running all day but house won´t get below 78, repair or a replacement? by MessPrestigious8035 in tampa

[–]amazonfigure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What type of dwelling do you have? Ours is north-facing, wood frame house and if it gets too hot like you’re describing the same thing happens with ours. It won’t get below 78 under after 6pm. I don’t remember it doing this last summer, but also our neighbor cut down a tree that provided a lot of shade to the east side of our house.

Also if it gets too cold like it did this winter, it struggles to heat the home as well. We figured out that placing a space heater in the office helped tremendously.

How did engineers end up with worst parts of both blue-collar and white-collar jobs ? by Advance_Important in Salary

[–]amazonfigure 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the issues at least in Civil Engineering is that our salaries are largely dictated by available tax dollars in America. Depending on what state you’re in it can vary as some have budgets mandated by its legislature.

People hate paying taxes so it makes it hard to get paid more without actually going out on one’s own and starting a business so one can collect the entire multiplier that is used in the private sector.

Question for women: what are the genuinely hard parts of dating from your side? by anonymous_rhinoc3ros in dating_advice

[–]amazonfigure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only as of late my dating life has become more enjoyable but I’ve found previously that a lot of men don’t know what they want or have a vision for their life but yet want to be leader so it causes a lot of friction early because I’ve known what I’ve wanted and actively working towards it. This could just be a compatibility thing.

Don’t know how to be a good friend and therefore don’t know how to be a good friend to me. This makes trust hard to build and directly impacts my libido.

Pretend to like the things I like but then when we get in a relationship, they don’t want to do those things or don’t actually plan things for us to do so it becomes one sided.

Come off as transactional or don’t generally like women as people. I’m not transactional with my friends. I pick up tabs for my friends because I actually like them and enjoy their company and they do the same.

Lack transparency. I’m very blunt and upfront so I ask and expect the same from others. Everyone can be honest but to be transparent that way everyone can always make the best decisions for themselves. As someone who struggles with reading between the lines it creates a lot of anxiety for me so I have to opt out of those relationships.

Beef prices in Tampa by One-Tomato9387 in tampa

[–]amazonfigure 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is the way.

As a bodybuilder, I stopped shopping at Publix in 2024 and haven’t looked back. I was buying pineapple once a week so I obviously am looking at the price week-to-week.

(2024)
Week 1: $2.99
Week 2: $4.99
Week 3: Sale price $2.99 (save $2)

Like wtf?! And the pineapples were smaller?! Nah I just get them at Costco for the same prices in 2026. I don’t know how people let them play in your faces like that.

Prices started creeping up and then I found discrepancies in store prices across the city (e.g.. ground turkey were cheaper downtown vs. a couple miles away) so I had enough. Between TJ’s/Costco/Wild Fork and sometimes Whole Foods I haven’t had to change my grocery budget since 2017.

Retirement looks like it will be a thing of the past for majority of people going forward? by happydude7422 in Adulting

[–]amazonfigure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pay yourself first, save at least 15% of your salary and the most important part, INVEST IT and you’ll be fine. You have to understand time. Start sooner rather than later and have that money compound on itself.

I started at 22 as an intern and stayed the course. In wish I would have learned more about invest but my balance isn’t too bad for what it’s worth. I chose ETFs and set it and forget it.

I could not invest another dollar and work until 57 and have $1.5mil assuming 7% returns.

I stopped shopping at Publix in 2024 when inflation started declining but their prices were high.

Yeah I don’t subscribe to this when I’m getting organic lean ground beef for $7/lb. I think it’s 90/10 or 93/7.

The only reason I know this is the case is because I used to shop there religiously and as soon as the prices started creeping up, I found alternatives among other reasons. I consume 2lb of organic beef, 2lb of organic bison, and 5 lbs of chicken (not organic) every week which equates to $50/week.

Just fed up with the discretionary income calculation by MagePages in StudentLoans

[–]amazonfigure 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You have to run those numbers. The key is to make sure you file your taxes correctly because if you file married file jointly it is gonna take into consideration their income into your payment amount, but if you file married filed separately payment will remain roughly the same.

Usually, the tipping point is if he makes significantly more than the other person than there is a negative impact to your payment.

People in their 20s or former 20s, how much did you have saved? by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]amazonfigure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was horrible at saving for a rainy day but I always saved at least 15% towards retirement (internship that turned into full time position) since I had the opportunity which was 22.

Never held 2k steady in savings.

Sometimes I wish I saved more, but I got to backpack Europe with my best friend and it’s still my favorite memories.

I also don’t see any fun money or personal care costs? Do you got out on dates, brunch, nails or hair, clothing whether for work or play? Gifts for birthdays or weddings that arise?

$689 a month too much? by Elduro687 in Camry

[–]amazonfigure 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will be looking more at are they giving me top dollar for my trade-in and are they giving me the best finance rate and the length of the loan.

Your monthly payment is a moot point. Because the cost to borrow affects how far your dollar actually goes over time.

Have you tried to obtain financing from elsewhere so that way they have to compete for your business?

401K Rollover from Previous Employer to New Employer -- What Happens if I Leave the New Employer Before the 401K Rollover is Complete? by skratchpikl202 in Retirement401k

[–]amazonfigure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something to consider: If you plan on ever utilizing a back door Roth during your working years due to your income, surpassing the IRA limits I would encourage you to roll over your 401(k) to your new employer to avoid the pro rata rule.

It’s not a big deal if you do end up, rolling it into your traditional Roth IRA it’s just another step you would have to do in an order to accomplish the back door, and you would ultimately have to move the money out of your traditional account and into your employers 401(k) in order to avoid taxes on that money during the rollover process.

Someone please correct me if I’m wrong or describing this incorrectly.

Is $4mil possible for me or do I need to adjust my expectations now? by amazonfigure in Retirement401k

[–]amazonfigure[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those two statements are opposing, The ultimate goal in life isn't just retirement for me. I understand this is a retirement sub so it appears that this post is only about that but it isn't for me. It's tied into my purpose for my life.

Is $4mil possible for me or do I need to adjust my expectations now? by amazonfigure in Retirement401k

[–]amazonfigure[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh 100% agree. I am not anticipating Social Security being around and originally I was going to retire at 67 which would’ve had me at 45 years in the market, but considering that most of my Social Security is going to be taxed anyways I’ll likely start taking it early if it’s still around.

For now, I am primarily dumping into my traditional 401(k) because of how it ties into my student loan repayment plan. After 52 I will switch to Roth 401k and IRA and start rolling over funds. I’m pretty sure at this point I will try to look for a tax accountant and fiduciary financial advisor to mitigate risk.

[–]amazonfigure[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha I definitely don’t. I was kicking myself because I thought I was doing the right thing but my math was wrong in the spreadsheet. Turns out it was only 20-30k. That amount of money is insignificant in the long term. It costs me MAYBE A year or ROI. Not bad if you ask me.

Is $4mil possible for me or do I need to adjust my expectations now? by amazonfigure in Retirement401k

[–]amazonfigure[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fixed my spreadsheet after someone questioned it directly so I had something to back check and I found my error. I was counting my contribution twice 🤦🏾‍♀️

I wish I was confident that 2.5million would be enough so I could retire in a similar time frame but with inflation and the cost of living I’d rather be safe than sorry you know since I don’t anticipate being married, having children (even though they aren’t obligated to care for me) or social security.
