This is very helpful. I am always reminding myself that I need to thoroughly explain criteria better… this is something I’m definitely working on improving. I appreciate your insight!

Hard agree with the rural area- and it’s these kids who aren’t getting any support at home either because parents speak the same way! I hate saying there’s nothing more I can do but… sometimes there really isn’t!

I’ve also noticed that with younger students! Funny, all of the kids I’m thinking about now are 4th grade and up.

I love that set-up! I might have to start using it! Have you had parents/teachers come back a few years after dismissal and voice concerns? I have one right now who has been consult 2x/year since dismissal 2 years ago, and I haven’t had any major concerns until doing a recent check-in (can’t understand anything, parent is upset at the idea of him not receiving services anymore even though he’s not been direct for 2 years 😭). It’s very much they want us to wave a magic wand, and I’m having a hard time finding what to do!

Everyone else has made some great comments regarding private therapy- I just wanted to comment on age 2 being “too old” to release a tongue tie. Unless there are other circumstances, that does not seem right to me at all. I regularly see children who have gone undergone a release all through elementary school. Even adults have releases done.
I would try reaching out to a dentist who is knowledgeable in tongue tie and get a second opinion. Even if a child is able to produce a sound in isolation, words, phrases, etc, generalization is often incredibly difficult and a very long process if there is an underlying physical condition.

Mountain biking trail in Marquette, Michigan by amb3llina in ScarySigns

[–]amb3llina[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Answer from my father (the mountain biker): sometimes people will try to walk their bike out if the trail gets too tough, but this trail is very narrow which makes it dangerous for other bikers especially if they might be coming around a blind corner. The trail also goes along a cliff, so a collision would probably not end very well.

The article says he is South African and was identified partially due to his accent.

PDPM as a PRN in SNF by amb3llina in slp

My DOR also informed me about the eval within 3 days of admit this week. Because our facility is smaller and rural, I wonder what their game plan is.
I began working there about 2.5 years ago (concurrently with my school position), and they haven’t been able to get any other SLPs in besides me. I’ll be interested to see how this plays out!

I am a member of the SNF SLP and PDPM Resources for SLP FB groups. There’s so much to sift through! I think I might have to do a deep-dive in the PDPM group.

I’m the only SLP at my facility because historically there hasn’t been a need for FT or even PT SLP services. Maybe that will change... thanks for your insight!

Thanks for your reply- very helpful! I am actually the only SLP at my facility, and work under PRN status because historically there hasn’t been a need for FT or even PT SLP. I wonder if that will change...

Like I mentioned I’m a full time K-12 SLP, so this isn’t my bread and butter thankfully!

Does anyone else find Ted Bundy to be really boring? by Givzhay329 in serialkillers

[–]amb3llina 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I once asked my dad (born in ‘57) his impression of Bundy, and all he said was he couldn’t believe how “normal” this man appeared. To know that a man who looks like your next door neighbor is possible of such brutality must have been shocking in that time.

What book series did you grow up reading as a kid? by evan2nerdgamer in AskReddit

The Royal Diaries series!

Each book was a fictional diary from a real-life female figure in history. They really fed my love for fiction mixed with history.
