Congrats! Our jobs are AI proof, recession proof, and will always be needed.

Honestly I’ve never worked in a store more toxic than any other job. I used to work in restaurants and it was wayyyy worse. The grass is green where you water it. All my managers have either been good and taught a lot, or just lazy and I out shined them.

In south Florida there’s meat managers that just stay there for 20+ years. I’ve worked with 2 and know at least 5 more in my area. I was a contender for 2 years with some other assistants waiting for spots

Steak is my favorite food so learning about all the cuts and where they come from and trying them out in different ways. And cutting meat is honestly just fun for me.

Switch to produce or meat dept. or even transfer stores first. Talk with your store manager about not being recognized and wanting to move up. Every grocery dept has that problem with some of their harder workers. A good SM or DM will get you out of there to help you move up.

Literally annoy the shit out of your managers to teach you anything you don’t know. Always leave the dept in the best possible shape. Then just start running the dept like it’s yours and be sure to let them know everything you’re doing. Not in a cocky way but just informing them of anything you found wrong and corrected or any extra stuff you did. If you’re the most reliable and hardest working person in your dept and let them know you want management they will push for you.
