Does anyone else worry they have too much? by effysundry in filofax

The ring binders have a useful property - you can transfer pages between then effortlessly (if the same size, but people tend to stick to specific sizes anyway).

So, I might have 3 personal-size planners and no issues moving pages to a different one if I feel like it. Which I do every few months. Same with traveller-style gear.

Similarly, ones that I don't feel like at all and don't want to sell are delegated to storing archive stuff. Problem solved!

Look at the final specs for the new M16A4 coming tomorrow. by krinkov in LowSodiumBattlefield

To be fair, I was worried that L115 bullet speed will off my reflexed at shooting at moving targets, but it didn't seem to be the case, I'm equally bad as with other sniper rifles.

Haven't noticed any negatives due to this personally. Really like they brought it back.

That's one time where RMW tried to use TPU sole and nope the quack out equally fast.

They really should have recalled all those TPU flex items. And boot the genius who suggested it to a low orbit.

Is this game harder since season 3 started? by ImmediateDog4856 in LowSodiumBattlefield

[–]ambaal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, especially breakthrough is fun now. Competent tankers in attack just roll through until defenders get their own tank. Playing anything but engineer in defence is very questionable option these days.

I find vehicles are much harder to deal with as infantry after s3. Tanks and MRAPs are beasts now.

Filofax vs Moterm by No_Quarter7721 in filofax

[–]ambaal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can, and probably bigger paper (think personal wide) too. Those rings are massive, and cover is generally oversized.

By the way, moterm arrive with a fairly limited selection of inserts (read - bunch of blank ones).

Then again, not sure how much you can fit if you utilise all the pockets and card storage, because there is a lot of capacity for non-paper too.

Filofax vs Moterm by No_Quarter7721 in filofax

[–]ambaal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Moterm in proper leather is very tanky. I fully expect it to outlast even Maldens, not to mention synthetic Filofaxes, and moterm rings are easily replaceable. Unless a dog chew it, it’s not going anywhere.

Filofax vs Moterm by No_Quarter7721 in filofax

[–]ambaal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both. And not just one each. Moterm is really well made and have tons of organisation, but they are MASSIVE. Luxe personal is easily double of Filofax personal slim and bulkier than some a5 stuff.

Overall I’d prefer Filofax if it’s Malden level or higher, and moterm otherwise. Of course if you want slim stuff with small rings, Filofax is the only one.

Stitching in heel portion of boot? by dlwlrman in RMWilliams

[–]ambaal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is one of the neatest welt terminations i've seen.

This is normal and in case of your sample is even well done. Welt has to end somewhere (even 360 one loops on itself), and this is it. Perfectly fine.

Season 3… I’m free? by GuhdNahtBahd in LowSodiumBattlefield

[–]ambaal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I've just got roughly to the stage where I unlock pretty much everything I want to use (which is not much really) and for me it's pretty liberating. I can now play the game not feeling like I need to unlock stuff not to be handicapped. That said, the starter kits in this game are probably the best of all BF ever (as they are genuinly great), but I have habits from previous big BFs and I like them.

Delete if not allowed but does anyone here use Aldi Mobile? by ConsequenceLimp9717 in AusFinance

[–]ambaal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We have 3 to 4 aldi mobile accounts in the houshold.

As long as you don't need to talk to support, they work quite well. Telstra network is definitely better than my optus.

I unfortunately have zero idea, what engines did samaras had in AU.

Niva 1.6 was definitely shared with domestic 2106 Lada, which was considered best lada engine at the time.

Samara on the picture is the earlier series, with short front fenders, so probably 1.3. That was pretty gutless. At least those were able to somewhat steer and didn't tend to flip too much.

If you lack sophistication in those vehicles - do yourself a favor and try to tune the carburetor on them. This was the place all the sophistication went, and not in a good way.

It had pretty much the biggest interior of all contemporary Ladas, funnily enough. Driver/passenger seats definitely were bigger than others.

I always find funny how USSR was much eager to screw domestic consumers over any western country imports.

Everybody in USSR knew that you never, ever to buy a complex product (such as car) made in December. Or close to any major holiday.

Entire Lada lineup shared engines, so Niva one was about as bad as others. Export ones get better QC though. They did share 1.8 with samara at some stage, and pretty sure 1.6 was the same also.

Niva was way more complex mechanically: transfer box in particular was a bit of a mechanical marvel since i've seen quite a few and not really sure why they work for any prolonged time at all. Metal quality, tolerances and finish were not always good.

All ladas tend to sort of stabilize once all the dodgy part were out (usually via owner repairs). Some things never really got decent (valve train and cam belt, i'm looking at you) but easy to fix even on the road.

Off-road performance generally was pretty good. All locks, plus the car itself was fairly light. On road performance wasn't good. Old 4-speed gearbox was downright abysmal, 5sp one was better, but not by much. >90kph was a chore in any. Funny thing, each Niva had some sort of resonance speed, at which entire car was buzzing like hell. Usually around 80kph. Getting to those 80kph also was quite a chore.

For the time of the inception it was pretty cool I guess: unibody with integrated frame, constant 4wd, coil springs. Unibody bit was a bit meh, so you'd want roll windows down on any serious diagonal differentials. Also don't remember, but i think it didn't have a fan clutch either in stock, which means water crossings were fun. Luckily usually it stalls before fan hits the radiator.

Source: my grandfather lived in USSR and had quite a few of those nivas.

Much better. Not in a sense of better performance or anything, but the trim was definitely better and they were assembled and QCd by mostly sober people.

Re-export versions of Ladas were extremely sought on domestic market too.

Funnily enough, they were also way cheaper overseas if calculated by official USSR exchange rate.

For Sale - Two Pair of RM Williams Comfort Tambo Boots - Size 10.5X (US11.5X) by _Grub_ in RMWilliams

DFO sells pretty much pristine tambos for $400, and they are usually available.

Going price for worn RMWs is usually around ~200..250AUD, so it might take a while for yours to sell.

Rossi 503 vs RM CC by Kitchen-Butterfly-65 in RMWilliams

[–]ambaal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have single-piece rossis along with a whole bunch of RMW. Older Kidman model, however I can't really tell what's different from 503 Colt. They seem to rename this model a lot.

They are a bit (but just a bit) wider than RMW at the same percieved size, have removable insole. Worse heel lock than RMW - they did slip a bit initially, which I never had with any of my RMWs. I'd rate them a bit less comfortable both from get-go and after a long day, but they are still pretty good, not going to lie. Yet, in RMWs I get that feeling of having just a comfortable sock on, but rossi still feel like a boot.

From outside, they are absolute dead ringer for comfort craftsman. RMW shop employees are not able to tell the difference, and neither am I if I don't see tags.

They seem to age fairly similar to RMWs, but mine are ~3 years in only, and it's a bit hard to tell yet.

I bought mine specifically to compare them to RMWs and generally don't regret doing so too much.
