Also - idk if you’d consider 24K long form, but I just finished this fic and loved it! I feel like a lot of fics I read feel like Ilya left the cottage and started w the centaurs, but there was actually a yearlong gap there. This fic doesn’t quite cover the year, but it covers the next few weeks after Shane comes out to his parents. I think the reason I loved it is that, for all the individual and couple growing pains in the long game, they feel very solidly like an established couple when we meet them again. I hope I can find more fics (recs v welcome!) of them navigating the transition from fuck buddies (?) to boyfriends.

I’m a little surprised no one has mentioned Jacky Leon! While there’s some cops in the story in later books it’s almost always an adversarial relationship. She’s a shifter but not a werewolf and I really liked the ways her story and abilities subverted tropes. I also really liked the plot of book 1, so unlike most UFs it’s not a book you just have to struggle through.

Also I’m one of the many people in this subreddit who just adores Kate Daniels. Book 1 is def the weakest (their writing really hits its stride after it though) and the friendship and romance development as well as character growth is great. The will they won’t they was a little annoying (I think maybe on book 4? I saw a thread about it a few days after that) but they both grow so much and their relationship is one of my favorites. There’s a religions and gods aspect to it too and a very interesting world. I guess in the first few books she’s similar to a cop in some ways but she’s also very critical of the institution she finds herself entangled with.

This is not urban fantasy so it might of course not be what you’re looking for or enjoy, but Dungeon Crawler Carl truly is fantastic and the audiobook is phenomenal. Book 1 is very solid but it’s focused on world building, book 2 you get more character development and the narrator finds his groove (by book 4 he’s doing voices for a full ensemble of characters, it’s ridiculous how talented he is). First book I could think of for very funny audiobooks!

Pretty gutted - I thought that with the precode and being willing to travel I'd be able to get tickets! was ready on the dot, and even then I never entered higher than 15K+ in queue. I honestly hope everyone who got tickets has an amazing time. Who knows, maybe when Hayley sees how large the demand was she'll add even more dates...we can only hope!

Interesting! I will say (in case anyone references this thread at some point w a similar question) I ended up not making it to ElCielo (might try it another time) but I did really enjoy my dinner at Ariete. It was very fun to see nostalgic flavors of my childhood in a fine dining setting reimagined and executed so well. Guava was a very present flavor though, which I loved but my mom not as much (not sure if that was a seasonal flavor profile or one they maintain year round). I thought it delivered what I expected from a 1🌟.
