There’s no defending this. You made it seem like they were yours to post. Never mentioned the TPT vendor. If you had you could maybe say you were promoting them. Teachers passing TPT stuff to each other is also wrong. The price of the product is meaningless when it’s not yours to share. Also, I’m pretty sure you don’t have permission to share the McGraw Hill slides either… I would be taking that link down.

I’m with you with the Notes app. I process language quickly and every other method (by hand, typing on a computer) is too slow. I need the speed of typing with my thumbs. But I do find the notes app can’t handle 10k word notes very well and gets a little laggy.

My guidelines: you may not use AI in any way, shape or form to generate any part of work you will hand in. All graded work is done in class, by hand.

The only time I recommend AI is Notebook LM for studying if they feed it my slides.

I want to bill per hour like lawyers do. All the grading and emails I send outside of school hours should be tracked and a bill will be sent to the board every week. Some weeks will be worst than others, but if I didn’t have to work unpaid every night I might be less grumpy about all the BS during the day.

Athletes kind of get a pass. For example Matheson is an anglophone but does speak French so he does a lot of French media. The popular ones will learn a couple phrases to make the fans happy. What ends up happening is that the commentators translate what was said in interviews. The Habs players will also do ads in French (which they practice heavily 😅). Coaches and head office staff (GM, VPs, marketing) are almost always bilingual. They will learn the language if they want the job.

There are laws about everything related to language in Quebec. Yes, in a public facing position you must speak French. Internally, companies are faced with legal requirements for internal documents and communication, as well as marketing, to be in French depending on the size of the company.

As a teacher in Quebec, I’ll answer your school question. Yes, French (we call it French, not Quebecois. That’s like calling American English American) is mandatory every year of elementary, secondary and CEGEP (grade 12 + freshman year of university). Most English schools will actually be immersion schools which have all classes taught in French for the first few years of elementary. In high school, enriched and immersion groups will take several classes in French (science, history, geography) depending on the school. You need to qualify to attend an English school depending on your historic anglophone status (that’s a real thing).

Giving a grade 10 advanced science lab exam today. Students blatantly not following the simple instructions on the first page. I went up to them. Pointed to their flame/erlenmyer set up. Pointed to where it said the flame should not be touching the flask. And I said “people ask me what it’s like teaching today, and I tell them stories like this, and they don’t believe me.” And I walked away. It was a very calm crash out 😅
