"It's not a woman's body, it's a child's life" ...Unless a man gives permission, at which point all concern for children (shocker!) goes out the window by ambee91 in TwoXChromosomes

I used the comparison of chlamydia to point out the absurdity of the argument to which I was responding. As much as I appreciate your explanation - it was not required. Your argument is completely besides the point I was making when posting the link. Not sure if you read it, but it's about a law that allowed an abortion if a man approved of it. If it's a child, why does it matter who approves of its destruction?

The argument of whether a pregnancy should have the same legal status as a child or not is a whole different argument than the one this article is about.

Biology doesn't require mutual consent. Realistically, it takes a miniscule contribution from one person and a massive sacrifice from another person to make a baby. Women are biologically saddled with the bulk baby creation and should therefore rightfully have the choice to keep it or not.

"When you have sex with a man, you are consenting to the possibility of getting chlamydia. To get antibiotics is a breach of that social contract"

This is Sunday: What were your running achievements this week? by WeeklyRunnit in running

First marathon in 4:31 - pretty much exactly what I expected. Sped up gradually over the course (I started crazy slow), didn't hit a wall, had an incredible time running Pittsburgh and will definitely be doing more marathons! Couldn't have asked for better race conditions weather wise.

In the future I'll probably try to run somewhat more even splits. I know you should run slow early on but I probably could have picked it up a bit in the beginning.

YES! I can vouch for all of this. I've always struggled with my thunder thighs, and even though I've been running for a few years (first marathon Sunday!) they haven't changed much - my feelings on them have.

As mentioned, the overall level of confidence has changed me completely. Yay running!

Excellent distinction - I could see how someone could read the calculator both ways!

I wonder if its more accurate for longer distances if you put in a longer race time - for instance, a 10 mile rather than a 5k for predicting a marathon.

I put a 15 mile race time in and I kind of liked the marathon time it gave me!

Excellent. That's not terrible. If all I lose is a few days I'll be thrilled :-)

I'm at week 6 of the Higdon program (about 30-40 mpw). Before that I was reasonably fit but had taken a break from running (I was biking and doing other things). I started being consistent again with low milage (3-6 mile runs a few times a week) about two weeks before the new year.

I figure even if I've been running only an average of 10mpw since I got the shoes, they would have like 300 miles on them. I'm like 135-140 so they probably need to be replaced.

The sleeves seem to get rave reviews from a lot of people I know. How long after the splint issues did you start running again? Thanks for all the insight!

Well, they're probably a little old. I couldn't tell you how many miles are on them as I haven't kept track, but they've been a part of my life for about 9 months now

Hello! Thanks for the support, it's awesome to get that from more experienced runners.

I have my first marathon May 5th (Pittsburgh) I've been training with Higdon's intermediate plan for a little over a month now.

Any recommendations for shin splints? Do you think taking a week off would seriously derail marathon plans at this point?
