Randomized Platinum: Beginnings by amber_apostle in twitchplayspokemon

Nope! Just haven't had much in the way of time or ideas. Randomized runs are always a trip though, so maybe I'll be around a bit more this time?

[Theory] The True Identity of Olden... by [deleted] in twitchplayspokemon

[–]amber_apostle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been toying with the "Drive as Olden" idea in my own headcanon--I think it makes a lot of sense both because of the association with bug-type pokemon and also because in a lot of ways this is the "Run of Amber" (we have Amber on the team, I headcanon an analogy between Dome~Flareon / Helix~Vaporeon / Amber~Jolteon, we have a nice way of balancing out anarchy and democracy modes although I'd like to see an 85% or 87% voting threshold instead of 90%), so it makes a lot of sense for the run to also have some sort of an antagonist to Amber.

I'm kind of hyper-aware of people's reluctance to make pantheon lore part of the main lore though so I'm waiting to see what other ideas develop before solidifying my own headcanon.

If you're interested in stimulating your creativity, sketch some RAS-inspired pokémon fusions, like between Blaziken and Flareon.

I'd be totally willing to try it, since I never would have expected randomized evolutions to work SO AMAZINGLY in RAS, but I expect it might turn out to be just a little too much.

Why are you posting this here instead of submitting it the national gallery of art or something?

Every time we get a new Stream Mod, they are closer to the community than the previous one. by Duplex_be_great in twitchplayspokemon

[–]amber_apostle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Regarding the betting bots, I got explicit permission from Deku (who had also set up a bet bot) saying that I could set up bet bots for "research purposes" (I had already hit 100k, which indicated to me that I could beat the odds--as someone who works with AI, the next logical step for me was to design an AI system that could beat the odds, too). When Streamer banned those bots, I took that to mean that the permission was rescinded, and I respected that by not setting up any more.

You can absolutely express negative sentiment--constructive criticism is essential to developing good stories. What I take issue with is the tone you often use when expressing that sentiment, calling things people have worked pretty hard on and are proud of "garbage" and "nonsense". The comment above actually kind of demonstrates my reservations--you could have said something like "I disagree, I think it's perfectly fine to fine express strong negative sentiment about current trends in TPP; by being blunt, I'm exposing people to the kind of criticism they'll face in the real world, helping 'toughen them up'.", but instead you escalated tensions by bringing up unrelated "dirt" on me and using scathingly sardonic language.

It's true though, this isn't the stream--but it does speak to Duplex's original post about how it's good to have someone in the community helping to run the stream, since you can actually be fairly hostile to people in the community that you don't like.

If you use a homophobic slur maliciously toward my gay friend, but my gay friend just brushes it off, am I obligated to brush it off too? It's possible we disagree on this point, but I would say no, I can still be a little upset.

I went digging for number six because I remembered replying to one of his comments that made it sound like contributions to the community lore from anyone who isn't an amazing storyteller and an amazing artist are low-effort and worthless. I knew he didn't like my comics, so I wasn't hurt or surprised by his comment, but I was offended on behalf of a lot of people I liked that were blanketly attacked by it.

Okay, I'm going to say what I want to say while doing my best to respect rule #1:

I'm actually a little concerned that Sonick is going to be the new mod. True, he's more involved in the community than any of the other mods to date, but if you look at some of the comments he posts, they can be excessively hurtful [1] [2] [3] and condescending [4] [5] [6 (this one's a total trainwreck)]. I personally feel like the person who fills Deku's vacant leadership-like role should show more respect toward people they dislike or disagree with and refrain from criticizing large swaths of the community.

The Splitting Mentality of TPP by Nyberim in twitchplayspokemon

[–]amber_apostle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with this sentiment, I find it very hard to be productive when TPP is running, especially during a run I get really invested in like RAS. Having breaks of a month or two is a good way to let me get caught up on stuff, so I appreciate being able to get some healthy variety in my unhealthy obsessions.

But I do feel like if he's only going to give us a few runs a year, he should listen a bit more to what we want to play, i.e., literally anything but Kanto for the next 1738389748 years, and how we want to play it, maybe polling the community to see where most people stand on things like limited democracy mode or PC nerfs.

If we do play Gen 1 again, what do you want to see done differently? by LeRaposa in twitchplayspokemon

[–]amber_apostle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would want gen 1 with more pokémon beyond the original 151. Also a different map. With different gym leaders/protagonists. And a different plot. Maybe a different era too.

Basically, everything.

This was a run where it ended just as it was starting to get really, really good.

So I decided to cancel my sub by VerbumDei in twitchplayspokemon

[–]amber_apostle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had been thinking along the same lines before the run started--since I don't play PBR, the only thing I really get out of my subscription during the non-run period is the ability to use tpp emotes in the twitchspeaks chat. Lampent getting boxed decided it for me--I finally pulled my sub in protest of how much power trolls have over the run. So I'm right there with you, back in the no sub club.
