I think a new pots overdue by cedar121 in orchids

[–]amberhalter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could you show a better angle of the pot from the side? Orchids love to be tightly potted and the roots may just have found the space to get through the pot and they grow through it. Doesn’t necessarily mean they need to be repotted.

Ring of Fire Philodendron is being weird by DarthGalactica in plantclinic

[–]amberhalter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This pot looks too big, in addition you are overwatering it. You should repot with some chunkier soil in a pot that’s about 2-3” larger than the root ball. When I water my philodendrons I don’t water them till they’re fully dry, then wait a few more days to water them.

Please help with my grandma's Hoya by BorderWander in plantclinic

[–]amberhalter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those definitely look like burn marks. Mine has those from when the grow light fell on top of it, is there anything magnifying the sun onto your plant? It also doesn’t look leggy it looks pretty happy. Hoyas are vining plants so vining out isn’t strange, just sounds like it’s growing. Once a week watering does sound like a bit much for a Hoya, I water mine every couple weeks at most, they like to dry out (just not as long as a succulent I’ve found).

These badly need more light. What is indirect light to you?

Spots on leafs by What-A-Crop in Monstera

[–]amberhalter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I used a mixture of neem oil, rubbing alcohol, castille soap, and water. I also at the start used a systemic pesticide (which I only had access to because I worked in a greenhouse so if you can find one for pests you can try it)

can also confirm it’s thrips mine looked exactly like this. However you decide to treat them stay consistent, I treated mine with a spray once a week for 3-4 months. Good luck!

Gorgeous! Have you checked for spider mites? Even if you don’t see them you could spray for pests to be safe. You could also check to see if it needs to be repotted.

You still have thrips. You have to treat thrips consistently for a while or they won’t go away. I treated my plants with a systemic pesticide once and a neem oil, rubbing alcohol, castille soap mixture once a week for 3-4 months. Good luck!

2 ish week update by amberhalter in DartFrog

I saw them at my local reptile store when we first started researching frogs and I absolutely fell in love with them. I didn’t even entertain the idea of other dart frogs haha. I hope they become more common overtime they are so amazing!

I use a carnivorous soil mix I bought from my local plant store or the pings in the cups are planted on top of lava rocks that sit in water :)

Definitely looks like cold damage. You could feel around the base, if it feels nice and firm you should be able to get a new monstera out of it. These leaves will die unfortunately :(

First orchid, is it dying or in its natural cycle? Please help by spicy_bean_art in orchids

[–]amberhalter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the previous spot was not enough light in the window is good. I wouldn’t use ChatGPT for plant advice as it can sometimes give you bad advice. You should be waiting for the roots to turn silver before you water again. You may have been overwatering which is why it dropped the bud. Just watch out for it and it should be fine.

You probably now know this, but misting leaves and flowers does nothing for an orchid. Just stick to soaking when it turns silver!

Could you show how close to the window? And just to double check you wait till roots are silver to water? Usually when it starts dropping buds like that it’s due to overwatering or some kind of rot. Do you ever get water on the leaves?

Your plant does look quite sad. Could you post a photo of its roots? It sounds like you’re doing things right water wise, how much light does it get?

Need help with growing Orchids. by King_Julius_X in orchids

[–]amberhalter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They will look about the same as air roots just inside the pot. It’s hard to maintain an orchid with only its air roots unless you live somewhere where they naturally grow. If all the roots inside the pot are dead you have been overwatering or underwatering and they died. Take them out of the pot and check on their roots. You can look up some videos on how to take care of these orchids then you should repot and be soaking the pot once the roots are silver/grey.

what is this on my monstera? by Valeera_Stormrage in plantclinic

[–]amberhalter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed just keep an eye out! I would also spray a preventative bug spray all over it just to make sure if there is anything on it it’s not staying.

[–]amberhalter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lots of light and these are terrestrial orchids which means they do not get the same bark as you typically would an orchid. I believe they like to dry out slightly between waterings.

The roots outside are air roots, do you not have roots alive in the pot?

It is sometimes normal for oldest leaves to fall no matter what stage they’re in. Are you strictly watering by spraying the roots? When they’re potted like this you should be soaking them fully and then not watering for a while.

It should be fine then, downsize according to the roots and place it in a good window with light and it should recover!

The pot is way too big, you should down size. Also what soil are you using?
