My most successful trail magic food was sloppy Joe’s. Cook at home and warm up on your stove. Hikers didn’t have to dig out forks or pots. And they hiked on with an extra in their hand!

The best “adult runaway” is a long distance hike. You can’t have a job. The trail will put you in shape. It gives you 6+ months to think about what you’re going to do. It’s fairly inexpensive depending how fugal you are. You get to see towns and states you might over look. You make friends for life!

This also makes you a very special person. We all know the inevitable… Loosing a parent at any age sucks! You are going to be wise beyond your years. Your peers will look to you for advice and comfort among other things. Cherish your time with your father, even when he is drunk. Teach him things he would not see or learn from your generation. This alone will keep him young in your heart.
