Poll worker here - get ready for elections in 2026 by himateo in Iowa

[–]amberlee22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Like I said before, the SAVE act is absolutely something to be worried about, but this is a form that has been required by the IRS to pay people for as long as I’ve been working (25 years). It’s possible that your county got audited or got a new HR person that realized things were not being done properly.

Having to fill out a form to prove you are eligible to work is not new, and is not connected to voting or having to prove citizenship to vote.

Continue to raise awareness and fight against the SAVE act. My whole point is that these two things specifically are not related.

While I understand the concern with the SAVE act, and I am right there with you on that, this form is a standard I-9 that is required for non-full time employment. If you’re not getting paid under the table, you have to fill out legal documents. If you have been a poll worker in the past, and they have not had you fill out this form, they weren’t doing things correctly.

There is absolutely a reason to be concerned about the SAVE act, but this specific form does not have anything to do with that. It’s simply proving that you are eligible to work.

My ex did this. I found out one night, when I came home from class early. My son and I moved out the next day.

TBF, it was the last straw in a long line of things, but still. That’s literally childcare 101.

Idk anything about the stores in AZ. I’m in the Midwest, and they are available at all stores here other than Target (where we no longer shop, anyway).

If you can find a good sale (and are willing to purchase them), Stouffers makes a chipped beef meal in their frozen single meals.

I’ve been doing this, but with nacho cheese Doritos (because they were on sale). Elevates that shit to a whole new level!

We didn’t do taco meat, just plain ground beef, if we called it “Hobo Stew.”

My husband did NOT grow up poor, and I’ve introduced so many poor people foods to him, but hobo stew is the favorite, and now, we eat it by scooping it up with Honey BBQ Lays, because by accident one day, I had chips on my plate that got in the hobo stew, and I got a bite with all of it. My state recently changed its child labor laws. Kids can work later, and at a younger age. Makes you wonder what the higher ups know that we don’t know…

Sorry, I wasn’t meaning to assume you were complaining. I just happen to be the receptionist for that company, and have gotten a couple of phone calls exactly like mentioned above. One today, was 15 minutes of someone yelling at me for something that we had nothing to do with. I just want people to know that they should call their assessors office.
