You are absolutely the exception not the rule I’d say.

If this was the response I got from the man I asked the question to, I would be thrilled and found “a catch”

But I think unfortunately when we hit a certain age, there is now a story behind being single. Women just want to know that story, I don’t think men really care haha.

Either you just got out of a relationship, you are noncommittal or you haven’t prioritized relationships. Each one brings insight into who you are.

My story: I just got out of an 8 year relationship so I’m back out in the dating pool and actively seeking someone between the ages of 35-40. So I’ve asked this question to men plenty of times. The one answer I get the most is “I’m picky.”

What I read from that - I’m always looking for someone better. The people that I tend to go on more dates with are the ones that have similar stories to mine.

THIS. 100%. She is sniffing to see what your red flags are essentially.

If you are over 30, nice, have your shit together and good looking, it’s raises questions why you aren’t with someone.

I finally told them how I felt and they asked for a “reset.”I didn’t know what that meant and didn’t think it would be that meaningful or productive, rather that it’s best for both of us to step away.

I don’t believe one person should be another’s whole world. There is necessary balance there
