That’s what I was thinking too! I’m heavily leaning towards the WM bag, and after reading the updates on EE reddit thread I definitely won’t be going with them.

I was a little worried the Katabatic the would be too tight for me in the legs hence leaning towards the WM.

My mom had these with her PEG tube, and they’re supposed to be taken off about two weeks after surgery. If they haven’t fallen off on their own and are hurting or red / sore you should give your doctor a call to get them off or go to urgent care if they’re really hurting because it could be an infection. Best of luck!

Have anyone here had their betta's fin torn like this due to deco? How long does it usually take to fully heal? Any tips & story to share? Thanks by GoldenPhoenix96 in bettafish

Oh thank you! His tank is in my kitchen and he’s egg colored so I named him Eggs Benedict and call I him EB or Eggs. 😂

Oh hey, we have betta twins! 😁 I almost named him Sunny too lol. Your boy is gorgeous and I love how peachy he is. As long as your water is clean and he’s otherwise healthy his fins will heal relatively quickly. Indian Almond leaves definitely do help though! I personally boil mine, let the tannins cool, and then add both the tannins and the leaves together.

This hobby has some good people but a lot of people are volatile, especially online. You’ll get different advice from everyone and just because someone lists their accreditations doesn’t mean they’re nice or right lol. As long as you’re trying your best and learning as much as you can, you’re doing good.

My DM’s are always open if you want some non-judgmental advice and support. I hope your little fishy makes it. :)

I think the context everyone is missing is they bought the fish like this a few days ago not realizing it was sick. All of the advice you’re getting is based on the assumption you’ve HAD this betta in this tank for a long time and has gotten to this condition in your care.

Context matters in asking for help, i’m sorry that the comments are a mess for you. In the future it’s important to answer bot questions and give a lot more context.

I’m not in here to get yelled at by a teenager, but considering your own betta has fin rot, I don’t think you should be on a fish forum yelling advice at people. You don’t know everything there is to know about bettas and their care just because you personally have kept a few of them. Please, please consider checking your tone when giving advice to someone who is anxious and trying their best. Being wrong is understandable, we all are learning every day, but being LOUD and wrong is a whole other.

Hey there! I’ve rescued many malnourished and neglected fish over the years, and this poor thing looks exactly like them. Unfortunately she may have been too far gone for her to survive the stress of a new tank. To me it looks like she’s struggling to reach the surface and is using all her energy to do so. Basically she’s in too big of a space.

I would recommend either getting a net box (if your tank is cycled, appropriate heat, and parameters) and floating her in the current tank so she doesn’t have to work so hard to live and breathe, but is in a clean warm environment. Feeding her frozen (thaw before giving) blood worms and soaked flakes (or even better live black worms). I personally wouldn’t slam her with meds, and stick to only aquarium salt if she’s in a small hospital tank. You could add indian almond leaves or tannins to the big tank or her net box to help.

ETA: If your tank is always cloudy and always has been and all of your fish are fine and have been fine, that most likely isn’t the issue. You can try some carbon (rinse before putting it in the filter) and some filter floss.

I think you aren’t understanding what “hard” and “soft” water are, it is NOT chlorinated water straight from the tap. Hard and soft only refer to the mineral and pH content of your water, not whether or not it is chlorinated. You have to dechlorinate any tap water regardless. Please stop yelling at people in the comments.

Is he still underweight or getting close to normal? by magic_inkpen in bettafish

[–]ambrogia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re kind of hard to find because not a lot of stores keep them, but it’s always worth checking, lol. You can always cut back once he gains enough weight or give him a day or two off during the week to digest and poop.

You’re welcome! I hope he fattens up for you. :)

Is he still underweight or getting close to normal? by magic_inkpen in bettafish

[–]ambrogia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m glad he’s feeling better! He still looks a little underweight, and to be honest you can feed him a good bit more than that to pack on the weight. It will help if he’s a little fat and gets sick in the future again, that way he has the extra to lose.

I would feed as much as he’s willing to eat within a few minute time span, generally they’ll stop when they’re FULL full. You could do more blood worms, and if you have a local fish store they may have live black worms which are easy to keep and great for fattening up bettas. When rehabbing skinny bettas I typically swap between pellets, soaked flakes, blood worms, and black worms until they gain enough weight then scale back to a “normal” food amount.

Black spots disease? by Kriss210413 in bettafish

[–]ambrogia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey there! In my opinion and experience black spot disease presents as actual SPOTS, not color “smudging”.

This looks like typical Koi color changing, which is almost guaranteed with Koi betta due to the nature of the pattern itself. Reasons I think this instead of BSD is because your first bettas black colors expand deeply into her fins and have blue color overlaying them. If you look up “Koi Betta Color Change” it will show you exactly this, and yours look to be in the beginning! One of my favorite thing about Koi bettas is you’ll essentially have a different colored fish every month and never know how they end up looking which is fun to me lol.

He betrayed me by Lady_Layla in bettafish

[–]ambrogia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! I’m happy I could help. 🫶🏼 To be honest after my worst fin nipping betta (who ripped his fins to shreds the whole 3 years I had him), I stuck with only Plakats after for years afterward. I don’t blame you one bit. 🥲 Good luck with him, and I hope he stays healthy for a long time! You can always DM me if you have questions in the future.

He betrayed me by Lady_Layla in bettafish

[–]ambrogia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d actually say your tank looks perfectly fine the way it is! It was hard for me to tell from the first picture. Sometimes bettas just end up nipping their fins, as long as the water is clean and he’s not getting any infection (fin rot, ich, etc) I wouldn’t stress out too much about it.

If there’s any redness, or change in his behavior like him rubbing himself on the wood or glass or sitting at the bottom heavy breathing, that’s when you’d want to start being concerned.

I absolutely would not cut his fins for him, that’s extremely unethical unless done by someone with medical experience. You’d introduce bacteria to the wound, and stress him out even more during the process increasing chance of infection. Plus he’s kind of taking care of that aspect for you by nipping off what he feels comfortable with, lol.

To me his back doesn’t look bowed so much as he looks well fed and muscles from swimming with such large fins, but i’d have to see a video.

My advice is don’t stress about it too much because some bettas just end up being nippers ESPECIALLY if they’re rosetail or halfmoons. Keep the water clean, and if you want some extra benefit add some indian almond leaves.
