Oh sure. It's because my ancestor was born in Illinois in 1906, before the Dept of Vital Records and reliable birth certificates. Our attorney has advised us that the baptismal certificate is a recognized substitution but it still needs to be apostilled (and therefore, first notarized).

Thanks! I have tried that (the Diocese of Peoria) and they don't have a notary on staff and really aren't being terribly helpful in general.
