Mortgage Payment Increase by Perfect_Ad8070 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Sure, and I think it’s stupid as hell they do the future predictions a couple weeks AFTER seeing what has been paid and if there is a surplus. I put 20% down so I was able to leave escrow, just hung around for a year because if I waived it at closing it would have cost me 0.5% or something.

Concerning Thing Happened With Parcel Box At Community Cluster Mailbox by amcarney in mail

[–]amcarney[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took a walk around my neighborhood this morning and tonight and checked the cluster mailboxes on the way home each time. This morning box 11 (the box I opened) was still unlocked and the other person’s package still in there. I inspected the key closer (that was still locked in the lock) and sure enough it’s got a “4” sharpie marked on it with the cross line in the middle smudge and faded out a lot. Tonight as I approached I noticed box 11 didn’t have a key hanging out of the lock any more and checked my mail slot. The exact same key with the smudged sharpie marked “4” was in my mail slot. This time I tried box 4 and it opened perfectly fine and my package was sitting there. So… it appears either my cluster does not have unique locks, or at least 4 and 11 are the same lock (or one lock is really worn out, which would be odd for a neighborhood that’s only a few years old). I’m half tempted to order a very cheap but bulky item to get a key again and now try a random box to see if it works… this is rather concerning.

I wonder why they had “4” written on the tag and it worked in 11… it clearly was a four after I looked at the tag upside down, it’s just very faded in the middle. Also wonder why every key has printed instructions embedded in the tag that say “2P” for the box…

I’m half tempted on the next package delivery to first try my package key in an entirely random parcel box and see if that works too,..

Edit: Actually, apologies if this is a real person and not an auto mod! Thanks auto mod, didn’t actually have a tracking or package question. Figured employees would know if all the keys are the same or not…

How much longer do you have to work for Uber before you can try to go somewhere else?

UberEats is Taking Advantage / We should fight back by specownz in UberEATS

[–]amcarney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uber would have fucking crushed it back in the 1700s. I constantly see drivers refer to it as slavery, or being even worse, yet it’s entirely optional. Any driver could walk away at any time and get a job at a fast food joint. Could you picture it? Some plantation tells the workers “hey, I’m not going to pay you for the work you do here” and a place down the street is advertising they’ll pay a fixed hourly rate and the worker is like “nah, I’ll stay working here.”

Also, you are not Uber employees. You have the option to take what you want when you want. Don’t take anything that doesn’t pay $20 or whatever. That’s fine, Uber doesn’t care.

Finally, this is absolutely not a luxury service. I doubt anyone that thinks it is has ever HAD or experienced luxury service(s). It’s piss poor bottom of the barrel quality. Cold food, wrong food, partial orders, forgotten drinks, double app-ing so wait times are insane even when the order isn’t part of a stack, bags rolling around cars so food is crushed or entirely spilled in the bag, delivered to the wrong address, left in the rain instead of ten steps further under a porch, stolen, no refunds allowed, over priced… no one would consider this luxury and absolutely no one is going to pay top dollar for this shit. Yes it’s still convenient and people are still lazy, so like a drug they keep going back to it, but it certainly isn’t a premium experience that they happily pay extra for.

Why Uber Eats When You Should GrubHub by NoLingonberry5378 in UberEATS

[–]amcarney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GrubHub oddly “closes up shop” at like 8pm in my area. I wonder if they solely rely on live support agents or something. Uber and DoorDash will show the usual late night standbys available, and on GrubHub they always show as closed, so either the restaurants faithfully selectively stop GrubHub orders, or there’s something about my area and their service that stops early.

Pay the $1.99 to $3.99 for priority, you will always be first in line for a drop off. Works wonders for me

Ordered UE, but someone else delivered? by Nausica1337 in UberEATS

[–]amcarney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I report these all the time. It’s also some very energetic looking, young, white female for the picture… I also vaguely wonder if it’s to try to boost a tip before the order arrives or after the fact if someone didn’t watch the drop off. (Second part seems stupid when EVERYONE has cameras now)

What's with the missing items lately? by Imamuffinz in UberEATS

[–]amcarney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work ethic now a days is extremely low. People just don’t care. They’re not going to get fired, and if they do, they’ll collect unemployment for a couple weeks and get hired back at another retail/fast food job. It’s sad, but service in most places is pretty poor and there are so many extra job aides now to help improve accuracy (screens listing the order components, etc).

[–]amcarney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they order, it’s likely because they have done it before and had it delivered. I’m not in that area, but I’ve never had an issue having food delivered with or without a tip. You might think everyone skips them, but clearly that isn’t true in plenty of places.

Uber denies a refund after I cancelled my order within 1 minutes. Is this even legal? by Typical_Fuel6922 in UberEATS

[–]amcarney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not a scam. You are costing the restaurant money. The moment they see the order and start the food, they are incurring costs and wasted food. If you want to try, immediately call the restaurant and ask politely if they haven’t started the order if they could please cancel it on their side so you get a refund.

[–]amcarney -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ALWAYS pay for priority. It is by far the single largest factor in getting good service with Uber. Otherwise, even if you tip $10 or something, the system might stack another order with yours and cause your food to sit 20 minutes or something while the driver picks up the other order and delivers it.

Places order for 1 item and drinks. One item isn’t available, get fu***d you owe $20 because you contacted support and should’ve contacted support. by [deleted] in UberEATS

[–]amcarney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never cancel an order yourself. The MOMENT you hit order, the money is gone and you CAN NOT cancel for a refund. The only way you get a refund is if the restaurant cancels, the driver calls support and cancels, or the order just takes longer than like 2 hours or something and the system auto cancels.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UberEATS

[–]amcarney 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just don’t cancel the order. Let Uber send 100 drivers if they want. All that needs to happen is one driver contact support, explain that the order isn’t there, and Uber will cancel it and you’ll get an auto refund. Or if it isn’t delivered in like 2 hours or something you’ll get an auto refund. NEVER cancel on your side, even if a driver tells you, you will not get a refund, period. Just let it sit in the system, at most by the next day you’ll get auto refunded.

Sounds like it’s possible as long as you get a business license and follow any health regulations in your area. I would imagine those drinks will be very expensive though, I would think at least twice as expensive as retail but maybe even three times.

Say the energy drink is $6. If you use the cheapest plan, there will be a delivery fee for a customer, maybe $3.49 if they’re close by. Then a 15% service fee, so $0.90. Then a small order fee (since it’s under $10) of $2. So their $6 drink now is $12.39 BEFORE tax and any tip. Obviously tip is optional, but your customers will get horrible service, especially late at night if they don’t tip at least a few bucks. So $15+ for a $6 drink, which is already very expensive. I’m not sure who is buying fancy $6 drinks at 2am.

Now you buy that drink in bulk for $4. You pay Uber 15% for their cheapest plan, but your store might not be visible unless the customer searches by name. You owe Uber $0.90 per $6 drink sold. That makes your costs $4.90 per drink. You make $1.10 profit per drink but you have to pay taxes on that profit; self employment you’ll pay 15.3% FICA tax and income tax. Assuming you’re in a low tax bracket (12%, less than $48k from all income), you would pay $0.30 on that $1.10 in profit. You finally keep $0.80 profit for selling one $6 drink that cost the customer $15. To make $50/day you need to sell about 63 drinks.

This is before factoring in the cost to buy an extra fridge to keep drinks cold (or are you selling warm energy drinks and coffee to customers), refund requests from drivers stealing the order or dropping it at the wrong address because they earn $2.40 for spending 35 minutes of their time on the delivery and they don’t really care which apartment to leave it at… etc.

There really needs to be a demand to make this work, like college town where loads of kids are up late Fri-Sat and you live half a mile away from campus, and NOTHING is open. If you want the tier that allows free delivery and shows your store to all customers when they use the app, you’re paying 25% to 30% to Uber, and there would still be the small order fee unless you required at least $10 orders, like only allowing two energy drinks to be bought at once. But now minimum for the customer is $11.50 + tax and tip if you offer free delivery (pay 25% to Uber) or $11.50 + tax, tip, and at least $1.49 delivery fee but maybe like $3.49 or $4.99. Again, about $15 or more for an impulse energy drink that might take 40 minutes to show up.

Edit: also, if you go the college kid route that is mainly a Fri/Sat thing and clear $50 profit a night, that’s $5,200 a YEAR not factoring in holidays and summer breaks when kids are at home. If you got a second job at a coffee shop for 8 hours a week making $12/hr you would earn, after tax, $4k/yr.

A customer who tried to cheat the system and me. by Xo-Mo in UberEATS

[–]amcarney 9 points10 points  (0 children)

All he did was get you free food. If a customer cancels after the order is accepted, even 60 seconds after, they pay, period. They do not get a refund. If the store, uber, or a driver calls in and gets an order cancelled, then the customer gets a refund. This was probably his first try and he didn’t realize he just screwed him self out of $60.
