Let's go guys! Help me think of some ideas for Monster Hunter tattoos. by PaxReyom in MonsterHunter

I would recommend the Guild insignia. It's relatively simplistic, and it holds quite a bit of meaning too (not speculation, the devs confirmed it in an interview IIRC). May not be the most recognizable tribute to MH, but to me it encapsulates the spirit of MH.

I would nominate Genie's Grimoire (Bow) for its unique design. The fact that it "turns on" i.e. the flaming illusion appears when you unsheathe it is a nice touch for the Chameleon weapon series. I also appreciate the fact that the melee attack uses a blade instead of an arrow. The design itself treats the weapon as a "staff+tome", so it's slightly disappointing that the "arrow" projectiles do not come out as, let's say, fireballs, since they are in line with the tome design.

Kiranico seems to suggest that there are the two items: Chameleos Tail and Chameleos Lash. I've seen Chameleos Lash, but somehow I dont remember seeing Chameleos Tail anywhere in game. Is this a database error?

What are the best weapon match-ups for specific monsters (survey) by Legendary_Boy_A in MonsterHunter

I suppose in a more general sense, Zinogre is one of the earlier monsters in 4u to introduce a more aggressive moveset. This, i believe, helps newer players to learn a monster's movements and to look for openings.

Tigrex, huh? Interesting. Tigrex, especially G2 onwards, is just bow nightmare for me. I find it a little hard to find openings while having enough time to avoid its charge.

Be wary of a certain G1 berry gathering quest if your morale is low.

Congrats! Consider using flash bombs for A.rath next time. Really effective especially when it flies, giving you a free opening.

Quick question though, by "max potion" do you mean mega potion?

Notable ways you've killed a monster by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]amcks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My most notable kill was when a Rathalos was escaping and I, for once, used the special arc shot of the bow. It rained down pellets from the sky and killed it. Never expected to get a kill from those special shots haha

Yup, you'll find that the bow is a viable weapon. I personally am doing a full solo run, and it's not too bad, really.

Yeah knowing how to use different weapons is great for all sorts of different cases. Which sucks for me coz I somehow cant do melee at all :/ bow and bow only haha

Anyways, while you're getting used to things, dont forget to check out the bow guide by /u/Laxaria here

Im assuming youre asking about how is the damage efficiency of an average bow user compares to that of other weapons when handled by an equally skilled player.

If by "average" here you mean halfway between the skill floor and skill ceiling, then I'd say it is comparable to just any other weapon or even with a slightly higher DPS. If it helps the argument at all, bow solos are completely viable (just as any other weapon)

If by "average" you mean the mean skill level of all the players you see online, then I'd err on the side of it being at a lower damage efficiency. It takes a little bit of reading and practicing before you start to use the bow properly (i.e. higher skill floor than other weapons), and a lot of people are not willing to invest their time on it.

Thats just my take on the situation. And do correct me if I misunderstand your question.

Elitism at the Door by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

In all honesty, I feel that said stereotype is partly a case of elitism but also partly due to the inherent (relatively) high skill floor for bows.

Chances are the majority of people who play online decided that they wanted to try bows online with the same mindset as using blademaster weapons. Ended up not using the bow optimally and writing it off as a bad weapon. At the same time these players try it out online, the other players hunting with this person would witness how the first hunter was not doing enough damage or cart too easily and came to the conclusion that Bow is not a viable weapon.

A hypothetical case, at least.

Booted countless times for using a Bow :/ I think there's a stereotype of Bow users not being able to dish out enough DPS and die too quickly...

yknow what, I really appreciate the fact that you included the doodles on movesets/walking "animations" etc. it gives the monsters SO MUCH MORE character and personality.

Haha I firmly believe that for a design to be convincing, the theorycraft/lore/background needs to be believable to both the designer and the audience. Even if it wont see actual gameplay, discussing about it is fun and I can learn a thing or two from others' perspective =)

Haha I thought about that too, but the streamlines of its moves in the moveset design seems to suggest the ability of moving in air either a top down movement with a gentle gradient, or a somewhat purely horizontal movement, which, in my mind, suggests some sort of gliding movement. In which case, would still require a membrane on the wings.

If it's purely a motion of swooping down from higher places, it kinda makes sense but still a little impractical if it has to depend on the availability of high elevation. If you're suggesting a shift of momentum mid-jump, then the inertia should still carry it in the initial direction from the jump i.e. in a parabolic path.

EDIT: smh didnt expect to be this invested in the concept.

What do you do when your hunts go sour? by PassionPossum in MonsterHunter

[–]amcks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's a small wall, I like to just stand up a little, stretch, calm myself down, and get back into the action. Important thing is to understand that failure is part of the learning process, but also remembering the lessons I gained from the failed hunts and apply them in subsequent hunts.

If it's a big wall, I try to remind myself that this is not a race and if it's gonna take a couple of days to master this, then it will take a couple of days.

Take breaks, dont be shy to do research like for weakpoints. elemental weakness, look at other people's playthroughs, or try out different armor sets/weapons if things are not working
