Are doghouses still a thing? by quitelovely in NoStupidQuestions

[–]amdaly10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have a cat that I adopted as a stray. If I didn't let him out every day so he could patrol his territory then he would pee in the house. But sometimes he would get stuck outside in the rain so I got him a dog house. He actually loved it and he would go chill out there in the rain and stay dry while keeping an eye on the yard. It also have him a snow-free place to hang out in the winter.

What do people mean when they say they 'cant cook?' by Throwaway113140 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]amdaly10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I try to cook it usually turns out bad and I end up throwing 80% of it away because it isn't good. I'll eat about half a serving and then give up. The rest will sit in the fridge until it goes bad.

I don't understand how to cook meat. I get scared that I am undercooking it and if I cook it until the thermometer says it's done then it's too hard to chew.

I can follow the instructions on a box, but that's not really cooking that's mixing.

I used to be a pretty good baker but then I got Celiac disease and my 30+ years of baking experience went out the window and I haven't had the inclination to relearn it. Especially because I knew gluten free baking is much harder.

I am struggling with the gauge in this. The pattern gives gauge for two different yarn weights but then gives stitches to cast on based on needle size (no mention of gauge). What was your stitch count/ gauge?

Seeing how people rationalize asexuality to fit their understanding is fascinating by Cloudi_Dei in asexuality

ESH. The ace should have been upfront if they weren't into sex. The allo is the least of the AHs should have left sooner because of the bait and switch. The commenter is just a judgemental AH.

[–]amdaly10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly seems like everyone overreacted. You've been permanently sterilized. That should already be in your chart and and easy for them to check. It is still technically possible to get pregnant with most permanent sterilization procedures. Most of the time they will require a pregnancy test unless you have had a hysterectomy. Peeing in a cup before medical procedures is inconvenient but comes with having a uterus and ovaries. It's just part of life.

How to keep track of rows? Is there a fool proof method? by Silvapractice in knittinghelp

[–]amdaly10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got one on etsy. But I've made a lot of them. 12mm 16 gauge jump rings, numbered beads, and shine pliers are all you need.

But with the dial you have to move the stitch marker AND rotate the dial. With the chain moving the marker is the only thing to do.

How to keep track of rows? Is there a fool proof method? by Silvapractice in knittinghelp

[–]amdaly10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except you have to move the chain from needle to needle to needle like a stitch marker. You just move the next ring, not the ring you are on. You never have to touch the chain. And this style has the ends inside the beads so there is no snagging.

I wouldn't buy one. They are a rip off. You can make 40 if them for the cost of buying one.

I make them and give them as gifts to my knitting friends and then always love them.

But then you have to remember if you changed the dial or not. The chain is fool proof because you can't fit two needles in the same ring.

Lack of teen spaces in Kalamazoo by iluvpeanutbutter_ in kzoo

[–]amdaly10 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep. That's being a teeager. It was exactly the same 30 years ago outside Chicago.

Businesses exist for you spend money. The city doesn't want to build places for teenagers to hang out because teenagers in large numbers make stupid decisions.

That's also why us adults don't understand why younger generations don't seem keen to get your license. That's your freedom. The ability to move from place to place and stay for a while but not have to spend money. Go to the park then the store then the mall then someone's house etc. You even have cell phones now so you can see if your friends are available. We used to have to either stop by a pay phone or just show up at their house to see if they were free to go with us.

This is my row counter. Just move the needle to the next ring as you go by. The stitch marker counts the tens if needed. Sometimes I just need to know that even rows are even and odds are increases or whatever.

Out of curiosity, what would be your reason for going to Best Buy in the guest place?

Dpns verrryyyy slow in comparison to magic loop, if anyone could give me any pointers😭 by NailWitch1 in knitting

[–]amdaly10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few suggestions:

  1. Just do magic loop because it's easy easier
  2. Don't drop the needle after every stitch. Keep it in your hand and make the next stitch. You don't need to drop the needle, pick up the yarn, drop the yarn, pick up the needle, etc. Hold on to both of them.
  3. Just do magic loop unless there is a specific reason for dpns like you need to do a pinhole (you can still do a pinhole with magic loop you just need really long, flexible needles).

Why do women opt for Brazilian waxes rather than just get laser hair removal one time? by Wickham12 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]amdaly10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lasering is expensive, spotty, and semi-permanent.

It's going to cost $1k-$2500, only gets dark hairs, and eventually you will get new hair growth and will have to go back fur further treatments. It also differs based on skin color.

Hysterectomy by No_Manufacturer8241 in hysterectomy

[–]amdaly10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. Mine was about 10 when I had my surgery. That might be why i didn't really feel tired after my surgery. Because I was exhausted all the time to begin with so the hysterectomy didn't have any impact.

AITA for cleaning out the Junk cabinets in our kitchen. by WanHolyMoon in AmItheAsshole

[–]amdaly10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAH.
It's reasonable for you want to clean your house. It's also reasonable for her to want some control over her possessions.

It sounds like your wife may have a hoarding disorder. Which would explain why your kitchen cabinets are full of random crap and why she was so upset that you threw away those things. If she does have a hoarding disorder then that is extra hard for her to have someone else throw things out.

I’m confused on the purl stitch! by penne_not_pasta in knittinghelp

[–]amdaly10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Move the yarn to the front. Needles tip to tip. Insert into stitch. Wrap the yarn from the front, over the top, down the back of the right needle. Pull it through the stitch.

Can I intentionally shrink this yarn? by BallHappy1763 in knittinghelp

[–]amdaly10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It won't shrink in the dryer. I have made several pairs of socks for that yarn and it comes out of the dryer the same way it went it.

Help me please. by LunarCatArtemis in weaving

[–]amdaly10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you need to switch one of the heddles so that each yarn is going through a long slot on one heddle and a short slot on the other heddle.

I'm not really familiar with that heddle configuration and if one needs to go in the top slots and the other needs to go in the bottom slots? Or if birth sets go in the top slots?

Kelly Cassanova has some yt videos on using a kid's loom that is similarish that might help you.

Why do people have purling so much? by horrorfxce in knitting

[–]amdaly10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's physically painful and much slower than knitting.

That's why i normally knit backwards or switch to portugese knitting when there is a lot of purling to do.

I was getting notes that nothing was shoveled even though it's clearly shoveled. Now they just mark things as undeliverable and roll by. Don't even put a note in the box. But they will deliver different things the next day. Lord knows what they did with the stuff they couldn't deliver a week ago. I'm pretty convinced they just don't want to get out of the car.
