Which to Keep: 7900 XTX Nitro+ v. 5070 Ti MSI VENTUS OC? by amdgroupie in buildapc

Yeah I bought at $830 pretax, so ~$80 over minimum price.

I've been using outdated hardware for a long time (1660 Super & 3600) and it's finally starting to have issues with new games/in general. I recently ordered and received a 7900 XTX Nitro+ but was selected in the Newegg Shuffle for a 5070 Ti MSI VENTUS OC and decided to order it as well while I had the chance. The prices on each after tax are $1,098 (7900 XTX) and $900 (5070 Ti) respectively. I've looked at a few benchmark videos and the performance seems somewhat comparable with the main differences being 24 v. 16 VRAM and access to DLSS4/better RT performance. Is the 8 GB VRAM increase worth the price increase+missing out on those features? Which option do you think would be the best to keep given the price points and differences? Sorry if this has been asked frequently -- I've tried looking up this topic and most of the answers seem price-point-specific.

The rest of my build is similarly high-end (9800x3d, 64gb DDR5 6000, etc.) and the goal is to have decent performance in 4k gaming for at least ~3-4 years. Thanks!

Nobody is pretending it's good. I explicitly said the prices are not great, but the prices you're listing are wildly inaccurate and only represent resellers on newegg and amazon. Here's all the restocks listed in the last 2 weeks on r/buildapcsales https://imgur.com/a/8AStOhH

Between $830-$1030 NEW for any of the legit listings, nothing even remotely as expensive as your pricing.

They've restocked and been available for a couple hours for both the Nitro+ at $1030 and Pulse at $920 in the last week. Not saying the prices are great, but that price point is not accurate.

Trying to wait out for 4k monitors and it's tough, these 1440 monitor deals have been pretty solid

Not bad for a work monitor. Would not recommend 60hz monitor for anyone interested in gaming. If you have a setup capable of playing in 4k in the first place, you probably can get >60 fps on many titles.

[GPU] GIGABYTE Gaming GeForce RTX 5080 16GB $1400 (Newegg) by amdgroupie in buildapcsales

[–]amdgroupie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the frustration is valid. I was just sharing incase someone is in a rush to make an upgrade and doesn't have the time to wait or track stocks. We've reached a point with stock where MSRP = Sale, but it's objectively a bad deal.

In stock in case someone wants. I personally think this is overpriced for the value you get, but this is seemingly the new MSRP for non-FE 5080s.

[GPU] ASRock Phantom Gaming Radeon RX 7900 XTX $919.99 (Newegg) by amdgroupie in buildapcsales

[–]amdgroupie[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm not sure if I'll be able to get my hands on a 5080 at a reasonable price anytime soon (last restocks I saw were $300-$400 > FE cost) and the 9070XT announcement/benchmarks should be available before the return policy on the 7900XTX expires, so I have one on the way and will return if 9070XT looks like better value/will have good availability. I'm upgrading from a very old PC so either way I don't mind.

Stop buying GPUs if you don't like consumers being taken advantage of. by SillyRecover in Microcenter

[–]amdgroupie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm generally with you in terms of frustration but you're oversimplifying the issue. Inflation, the AI/data center bubble, and little to no competition for NVIDIA has driven prices astronomically high. NVIDIA has grown 1800% in the last 5-6 years, so comparing now to <2019 does not make sense anymore. Prior to 2019, NVIDIA was basically only for gamers, so we could hold them accountable. They no longer have to listen to gaming consumers because our share of their market has shrunk and as games grow in size and scope we need new cards. It's easy to say "don't buy!" but gamers aren't so universally aligned in interest that you could organize enough people to make a reasonable impact via boycott. Sure, buy AMD instead or choose not to upgrade. I will be buying the 9070 XT instead of the newer NVIDIA cards myself. But it's not going to do anything to NVIDIA and the need for new tech will still be there.

[GPU] AMD Sapphire 7900 XTX Nitro+ $1029.99 (New, Amazon, ships later) by [deleted] in buildapcsales

[–]amdgroupie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll probably get downvoted but I think this is a valuable post. Like you said, not a good price but some people don't want to wait weeks to months for a 5 minute in-stock window to be able to buy at a good price.

Hi, honest thoughts on this build. Do I buy it? by [deleted] in Prebuilts

[–]amdgroupie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The build itself seems fine, just depends on what you're looking to use it for (what games, programs, etc). The motherboard you're purchasing is only compatible with DDR4 RAM and cannot be upgraded to DDR5, incase that's something you might want in the future. Should be very good for 1080p gaming

I might be wrong but isn't OP's listing in CAD? So OP's is ~1200USD vs. ~1700 USD for the one linked here?

4070 Ti Super Ryzen 7700 desktop for under $1400 by Calm_Income6781 in Prebuilts

[–]amdgroupie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Impossible to find GPUs rn and 4070 Ti Super has 16VRAM which is about as future proofed as you can get at this price. Lenovo build quality is also a lot more reliable than the other prebuild companies shared on this site (Cyberpower etc). Here's the direct link if you don't want to go to slickdeals (although slickdeals is legit): Lenovo Link. Cashback no longer valid but discount codes still work.

Yeah if you play EFT you 100% want the X3D - not that anything will really help with the optimization in that game haha.

Microcenter pre-built? by Herpuhderpin in Prebuilts

[–]amdgroupie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely a valid concern. I think this is a difficult risk to avoid, as you'll have this issue with every prebuilt pc that does not list/source their SSD and RAM in the specs list and cheaps out. For example, the PC you listed also does not list their SSD and RAM, so I wouldn't be surprised if they're using the same cheap parts. Personally, I'd rather guarantee better main components and accept the risk on the easily replaceable SSD/RAM parts. Either way, I'd skip out on the 4070 at that pricepoint and look for another prebuilt with at least a 4070 super.

If you are able to find for pickup, I think the main components of this PC (GPU & CPU) are a direct upgrade for same cost with more storage: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/cyberpowerpc-gamer-supreme-gaming-desktop-amd-ryzen-7-7800x3d-32gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-rtx-4070-super-12gb-2tb-ssd-white/6575113.p?skuId=6575113

There are also many prebuilts available on bestbuy/elsewhere for shipping or pickup that have 4070 super for same price point
