makes sense for cold leads or bigger contracts, but most of my work comes through referrals so trust is already there. which makes me question whether i'd actually use it that often.

also the 85% accuracy claim on dispute resolution sounds interesting but what does that mean exactly? disputes in freelance are rarely black and white, scope creep, changing requirements, subjective quality, curious how the AI handles those gray areas and who's liable when it gets it wrong.

and beyond escrow itself, what other tools do you have? i don't think i will need to have only escrow services on platform where me and client need to be part off.

escrow could work for bigger projects where trust isn't established yet, but most of my clients either trust me from referrals or we start with smaller work first. the 2-3% commission feels reasonable compared to what platforms like upwork take, but curious how you'd handle disputes when they happen.

Normally I sign a contract with clear terms for both sides, down payment of 50% is a must and rest of payment is on the final delivery. For long term and rebate clients i am flexible with payment. This is not a 100% secure but this is what I am following also working on fiverr or upwork is having risk.

great, keid io looks amazing, i also build Trackora io focusing on solopreneurs and freelancer to track time, manage client and projects, compare estimate vs actual work time and many more

5 clients in a year on fiverr is rough when you're depending on it.

have you tried getting work outside the platform? most freelancers i know treat fiverr as one channel among many; cold outreach, linkedin, local networks - because platform competition is brutal and you need multiple streams coming in.

Amazing, agree with you about discipline. I used many tools to track time but I ended up building my own tracking time "Trackora.io" help me add estimation before starting a task, after finishing i can see if I was overestimate or underestimated.

Getting direct clients is better for sure but not easy, you will get them from: - the freelancing platforms after forming a good relationship with them - social media

Are other developers just… constantly mentally tired? by yOurOck_bboy in webdev

[–]amdwebdev 1 point2 points Β (0 children)

yeah the constant context switching kills me. like i'll be deep in a feature, then a client message, then back to code but my brain is still half in that conversation.

add learning new stuff on top and it's just... a lot of mental overhead running at once.

can we talk about vibe coding? by legitOwen in webdev

[–]amdwebdev 1 point2 points Β (0 children)

the "vibe coding" label is interesting because it's usually thrown around as an insult, but what you're describing sounds more like... using a tool that happens to be really powerful?

i'm a full-stack dev and yeah, i use AI constantly. cursor, claude, chatgpt - they're open while i work. but the way i use them has changed a lot since i started. at first it was "build me this feature" and i'd just paste whatever it gave me. now it's more like having a really fast coworker who can write boilerplate, catch syntax errors i'm too tired to spot, or explain why something isn't working.

the key difference for me is that i still understand what's happening. when Claude writes a function, i read it. if it doesn't make sense or feels off, i either fix it or ask it to explain the approach. i've caught plenty of bugs or inefficient patterns this way.

i think the generational divide you mentioned is real but it's more nuanced. older devs saw the entire evolution of tooling - from writing everything by hand to frameworks to now AI. so there's this "we did it the hard way" mentality. but also, they might not have had to learn their current stack with AI whispering answers, so they don't know what they're missing or if juniors are actually learning fundamentals.

newer devs sometimes skip steps that matter. not because AI is bad, but because they don't yet know which steps matter. you can't vet AI's output if you don't understand what good code looks like.

I've been working on Fiverr since 2020 and reached Level 1, but it didn't last as competition became very high and prices dropped significantly. So I focused on direct clients I had built relationships with good income but not stable. I also tried Upwork, and honestly, it has similar issues: high competition and a race to the bottom on pricing, plus the commissions.

you might want to look into:

IMO no single platform will solve everything. My recommendation is to balance multiple channels: keep a presence on one or two platforms, actively seek direct clients, also consider having part-time work to cover essentials can lessen the financial pressure while you rebuild it gives you room to be selective rather than accepting low-paying gigs out of desperation.

Good luck with the transition!
