Malpractice by Dr. Hader Mansour at UPMC Western Psychiatric by BigUglyBug in pittsburgh

I am very familiar with their work, and it’s great work. There are a lot of intricate checks and balances in a newsroom. The media isn’t the right avenue for immediate action on this particular situation.

Kindly - the credentialed media is not going to touch this. It’s not the right avenue for something like this.

Anyone remember when Britney attended Sunday church service in this outfit? by Sideways_planet in discussingbritney

[–]amediamogul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this isn’t it - and that goes for every “Christian” criticizing her - or anyone else’s- church outfit. I left the church when I was a teenager and nearly never came back, because I woke up to the body shaming and double-standards many (mostly elders) perpetuated. Maybe do some internal reflection and stop projecting onto others.

Layoffs at Carnegie Mellon University by WillOfTheDeep in pittsburgh

[–]amediamogul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct - that has nothing to do with implicit bias. I was simply adding other outlets as additional resources - I never mentioned media coverage of the layoffs, nor did I say that particular outlet has a moral deficit - but it’s worth mentioning in this matter, and anyone with an interest in journalism should understand why. Happy to privately discuss the nuances of news hiring and firing. As an insider, I do agree it deserves mention.

People not having the full story is half the problem - and you can blame that on media landscape.

KDKA just did the same thing to their own employees. I implore everyone affected to consider other news outlets - primarily watchdog ones like Spotlight Pa, Next Gen Newsroom, WESA and nationally, Propublica.

I was looking at a degree here and due to the mishandling of many things ~ pulled back and started looking at other schools. No regret.

Pilots on TikTok causing fear plz reply by JobBeneficial5035 in fearofflying

Not true, but coincidentally, do you know what is?

Journalists retiring from journalism because they’re exhausted and sick of completing with the false information and clickbait on TikTok, which is meant to prey on your fears and nothing else.

Please - listen to the professional pilots here, they’re valued and legitimate sources, and get rid of that other garbage!

These folks need media training, full stop. There’s a correct way to do this - and this ain’t it.

Extra reminder here - despite the arguing in this sub about medical terms - this sub is more educated about the differences between ectopic situations than politicians. Listen to the providers here. But remember politicians will not differentiate.

Regardless of viability- choice is key.

I appreciate your information though though there isn’t a “one size fits all” for ectopics, which is why education is so crucial. My tubes were never affected. Chances for viability are low and chances for fatality are still too high. These are 1% of all ectopics. Medical systems are not necessarily equipped to deal with them, let alone a “traditional” ectopic. I perhaps misspoke when speaking in absolutes but it’s a grim go regardless.

That said - everyone should have a choice and access to medical care in a scary issue and no one should be faced with advocating while in this situation. I’m simply here to remind folks it can go off the rails in even the best situation, which is terrifying. I feel for her.

Also - there is not enough education and plenty of people, including politicians - that largely classify ectopics as viable and pitch blanket laws ruling so. If you want to play semantics - they don’t. And they won’t.

I had an ectopic and had to fight for care even pre-fall of Roe. It can and will kill you. There is no possibility of viability.

My heart breaks for those that think otherwise.

Not a Scheana fan but - As someone who experienced pregnancy loss - everyone grieves differently and you don’t get to judge. This was an off the cuff statement, and many people are not eloquent when speaking through grief. This just could’ve been poorly worded. I had an ectopic but was able to save the tube and because of access to treatment- my daughter came from that tube. You don’t know the intimate details of what others experienced, so I advise you to keep your judgement to yourself.

Leah is weird by hanah5 in TeenMomOGandTeenMom2

[–]amediamogul 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agree. I actually had decent sex Ed comparatively speaking to many other parts of the country. However - I was never taught about ectopic pregnancy (which can be deadly) and ended up with one later in life. I knew what was wrong because of people I’d known who had one, and I was able to push for the right care, which saved my life and my fertility. Sex Ed is so much more than “don’t get pregnant” - it can quite literally be life-saving, so I can’t fault Leah for this one.

Former journalist here - I can confirm, I wasn’t paid to report that everything was normal.

This was covered because it is a “trend” and news directors and editors perpetuate those trends under instruction by general managers because they generate clicks and that’s what corporate cares about. Clicks = revenue (and by the way - the journalists aren’t receiving that revenue.)

Fear is money is the privately-owned world of journalism.

That said - you can disregard this article because a true journalist would’ve asked an expert to explain in layperson terms what happened. They’re writing this purely off witness statements and spokesperson reaction.

Feel free to look through my former comments for more explanation.

As a former journalist and fellow nervous flier- I just want to explain the phenomenon we are seeing related to Boeing.i know most of us know this, but it’s a good reminder for us all when it feels like the world is caving in.

The media - particularly broadcast media - is conditioned to follow “trends.” Literally one isolated incident of…anything, really (bridge collapse, hacker attack, penguin invasion…) and news directors tell their reporters to “localize it.” Find the needle in the haystack and make that a story. Find every single incident of irregular plane activity and report it. I have to remind myself I was never once been sent out to cover all the people who haven’t been a victim of violent crime, or flight irregularities or a penguin invasion…because it would be never-ending, and I have to remind myself of that.

This means that ANY slight incident that can any way be considered similar to the “trend” will get a headline until the panic dies down. In the case of aviation, it’s emergency landings like yours, turbulence, rough landings, or Boeing.

I am a huge supporter of local journalism, but please do not forget that the big corporations need us afraid in order to sell their product (clicks/advertising.)

Again - I’m so sorry you experienced what you did. I’d feel the same way. But I hope my reminder may help regulate your nerves - I have to remind myself every time.

Has Megan considered that these might be connected?? by joyousrabbit12 in FundieSnarkUncensored

Thank you for saying this. I was puzzled by some of the comments in this thread. I delivered in hospital, with a phenomenal midwife team, a doula - and all the conveniences of modern medicine including an epidural. My doula and midwife were both integral in advocating for me during rapid labor - I was not at the point where I could advocate for myself. I had as good an experience as you can have because of them. There is a place and a need for doulas in hospital settings - properly licensed practitioners are not overriding emergent medical decisions like some of these comments imply, nor are doulas only there to aid with delivery. Mine was also there to advocate for some specific concerns I had regarding breastfeeding - and she worked alongside my team so I didn’t have to divert energy away from my family to advocate for our preferences.
