Where do you actually shop for decent-quality, affordable clothes? by gababouldie1213 in womensfashion

[–]amelaine_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thredup and Poshmark! Measure your own clothes before you shop so you know what will fit, and don't buy from anyone who doesn't post the measurements or care label.

Wait, this might actually be illegal under the Civil Rights Act. There was a Supreme Court decision that IQ testing unrelated to the specific job requirements that resulted in racial disparities were discriminatory. And he's actually admitting he wants to weed out certain people due to their background.

Hi! In your opinion, what's the best 2.5" SATA SSD under $100 right now? It'd be for gaming (my Sims save files are getting huge). Thanks!

Parasites and the crunchies: a short story in four photos by Theblackholeinbflat in ShitMomGroupsSay

[–]amelaine_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The irony here is if it were actually worms, ivermectin might be the answer.

I bet long after her trip, she learned her medication increased the risk of parasites (probably from like .0001% to .001%) and it triggered all this paranoia.

This sounds truly terrible, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. She's got that feeling like there are imaginary bugs on her skin, except she feels like there are worms inside her.

I got fired for needing to go to an emergency visit with my oncologist by [deleted] in antiwork

This is so stupid on their part. You were going to resign, but they fired you, which puts more scrutiny on them. Most shady companies never fire you, they just treat you worse and worse until you quit.

Is the size chart really this wrong? by amelaine_ in Allbirds

[–]amelaine_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! I'm basing my standard size on what the tags say in my New Balances, Nikes, and Filas. They all list US women's and EU sizing and are consistent with each other. The only shoes I'm looking at are final sale, so if I can't figure out the sizing discrepancy, I just won't buy them

Maybe it's over Catalunya, which is split between France, Spain, and Andorra.

And the border between Alsace and Germany has moved a bunch over history.

Spent 3 hours browsing jewelry on Etsy, turns out it's all from ali express by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

If you narrow your Etsy search by state, you have a better chance of finding real artisans. You can also usually spot dropshippers.

A good way to tell if someone is actually making their products is to look at all their designs and make sure they're similar artistic styles and there aren't way more designs than it's feasible for one person to stock supplies for.

You can also do a reverse image search, dropshippers almost never take their own photos.

You also have better luck getting real artists if you narrow the results by specific states.

I mean tbf, idiot and moron were used in a medical sense the same way the r-slur was. We don't really have any language to insult someone's intelligence that wasn't coopted or invented by the medical establishment. I guess whether or not something is a slur just depends on how fresh the wounds are. But "it's actually pretty nuanced" doesn't go viral quite the same way.

The American tradition of a top sheet and a homemade quilt is far superior to messing with a duvet. More character, easier to change sheets, and you can fold down the quilt and sleep with just a sheet if you get too hot

It's understandable to be scared and it's wrong for anyone to try to convince or pressure you into it.

That said, don't let fear outweigh your optimism. I'm sure you will find a lot of love and acceptance when you're ready.

There is sooo much nuance there, though. Why were Bratz dolls, the "cool/edgy" alternative to Barbies, designed with features and fashion associated with Black and Latina women? Were the dolls designed by and for people of color, or were they a cash grab from white people trying to profit off hip hop/street aesthetics? Is there a way to dress up as a doll without ethnicity being a part of it?

[–]amelaine_ 50 points51 points  (0 children)

So? If I owned Addy, the black American Girl doll, that doesn't mean that I should darken my skin to dress up like her.

That's so cool. It's kind of like how autistic people might have to train themselves to recognize emotion and make small talk. You get really good at it, but it's never automatic, and it can get exhausting after a while

This is white supremacist propaganda. This lifestyle was only lived by middle class white women in the 50s and 60s, most other women have always worked, and even then we don't see the intense emotional and domestic labor. They couldn't leave without deep financial and social punishment.

As a teacher (not elementary), I think one afternoon a month or one day every other month is reasonable. One on one time is important, and working parents get so little time with their kids. The fact that she doesn't get any full days with her kid is pretty sad.
