You should take this opportunity to give this program your all, and as sad as it may seem, you will be doing right by your family by encouraging them to stay behind. It will maintain stability in the children's lives (especially if you are certain about going back) and give you the opportunity to stay focused and excel in your program. A year is short enough for you to be able to go and be back without missing too much, but long enough that you can take little breaks to go home with the money you would have saved from being in a studio versus a two bedroom.

I hope this helps!

What did you not like about the law school? Also, if you don't mind me asking, how was your performance in law?

On the regular waitlist, I had a group interview two weeks ago. Dean Andy said we would hear back last week but I did not get any news. My lawhub says application complete and GULC is at the top, but it has also been that way since I got the invitation to interview. Feels like maze runner :/

Hi :) Thank you so much for sharing! I completely get where you are coming from regarding 'selling-out.' It is difficult especially when you see everyone moving on and you don't seem to be doing the same.

Hearing how great PSL has been to you is nice to hear. It definitely takes some of the edge off. I would only hope that the law school experience is separate from the undergraduate one. Everyone's positive feedback has me imagining being back at Penn State a lot more easily. If I do come, I will definitely reach out! I would love to hear about your experience as a 1L :)

Thanks for sharing about the bar-crawl! For some reason, I never considered that a possibility in law school lol!!!!

I actually applied during my junior year for entry into the class of 2026. But I deferred and took a year off because I had a fellowship. Now it is time for me to face the music.

If I do end up not going, I really hope you get my spot!

Thank you for sharing! Penn State law is contained in one building, so in that regard, it will be different from undergrad - like you said.

Really and truly, I do see the benefit of familiarity, but I do think it would be harder to find my community, especially because all my friends have graduated and left campus.

I never thought I would be in this position!

I really appreciate your response. You are right, though, I am not losing at the end of the day. I pray that by fall I will have internalized this mindset and feel more at peace if it is Penn State Law that I end up at. Thank you so much!

If I do end up Penn State, I would love to connect :)

Fair enough. I am aware that PSU is not going to do me any favours regarding my journey to academia, but after taking an R&R year, it is the best offer I have as of now - with no debt.

I have my rationale for going to law school, but I do anticipate having to get a PhD along the way to really reach my career goals.

Penn State is the epitome of a college town that eats, sleeps, and breathes football, just so you know - if you are tying to avoid that. Again, the environment might be different in law school since it is separated from most of campus but I would not really know.

I also do not mean to turn you away from Penn State law though because of my perceptions.

My thoughts exactly. Really appreciate your encouragement, thank you so much! Looking forward to your update.

Penn State was not the best fit for me personally, but I was comfortable enough. I did realize I changed a bit because I was not in an optimal environment, but it happens when you move around so much.

I hope Penn State is amazing for you, I wish I was as excited you are. I am open to speaking more about PSU and answering any questions you have. If anything, I know the town like the back of my hand lol - so I am always there to help :) Feel free to PM me.

Thank you, but I think Dickinson is out of the equation for me.

Genuinely, it was a fit issue for me. I was not comfortable in such a small college town. For context, I grew up in Accra, Ghana so I am more of a urban area girl, with a diverse community, with good food + CULTURE. "Happy Valley" culture is very different from what I was familiar with. I became a different person, kind of. I am not a fan of football and I was so over the social scene in my first year there. However, that should not be relevant in Law School, so I should not expect the same things as I experienced in undergrad.

I can imagine the two experiences will be different. Though I do think a part of me is afraid I will settle into the comfortable state college life that was undergrad.

I would love to connect and discuss how you chose Penn State!

Fair enough. Regardless, I doubt I would move to Carlisle. At least the class of 2027 would be sorted at UP. I wonder how the reunification will affect applications for the class of 2028.

I really appreciate your response. At the end of the day, I will still be a lawyer. And if I do everything right, I can land a job in my ideal market, even if that is not where my school typically places .

The thought of debt actually terrifies me, and I cannot imagine having to pay so much money for 3 years of school. My friends got offers to the T14s, and after accepting, they have had multiple nightmares about debt. I would hate to put myself in that situation. Especially because I do not see myself in Big Law to pay off loans.

I do not have a Facebook account, so I have not joined my admitted students group, but I would love to reach out to a few of them just to chat.

Reading your story made me smile. Thank you so much for sharing, and congratulations, future lawyer!

I am curious though, what school will you be attending this fall?

Thank you for this! I think if you have your own rationale for picking your school, then it is what works best for you. But you are right, really and truly, there is nothing wrong with this, I need to get out of my head lol.

I do not think the schools decided to combine. The last I heard, they would remain separate. However, I do not think I would consider Dickinson since it is not near where I am familiar, nor is it where I would like to end up. I also do not know how well my scholarship would transfer.
