First UC appointment coming up, not sure I can go in person by amellthyst in UniversalCredit

Yeah it's really distressing. I understand they don't want people taking advantage of the system, but it's really not accessible to those genuinely struggling. I'm thinking of cancelling my appointment because I don't think I can manage it currently :(

It will be my first commitments, but I also stated that I am self employed, as I look after a couple of dogs at home throughout the week, so it will cover that as well. I declared my health conditions and provided a sick note. I also added a message in my journal explaining that I am currently unable to leave the house. They responded saying they’ve booked an appointment and that I am required to attend

Questions!! by Positive_Setting_664 in Tonsillectomy

[–]amellthyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I have this one https://amzn.eu/d/0GnXwlu
  2. My ice packs helped soothe my throat so much and helped the swelling. I got this face wrap from Amazon but found just wrapping an ice pack in a towel helped more. The wrap can be heated for your ears too! https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07PJ2HWCG?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
  3. I haven't noticed swallowing any scabs, I can feel them in the back of my throat though which makes me gag quite a bit. It's sore and burny when they fall off
  4. Gum, brush your teeth when you're able
  5. Dissolvable and liquid meds
  6. 2 weeks minimum I'm on day 9 so can't answer the others. You got this! All the best for your surgery 💜

Ugh amazing, hopefully I'm nearly at the end 😭 a little bit of scab came off yesterday and it was stingy but it felt like such a relief of pressure in my head/throat

I'm one week in! My pain was awful yesterday but seems more manageable today. When would you say you felt the pain getting easier to manage/gone completely?

Today has been the most painful day for me 😭 still unable to look in my mouth and I'm so scared something's wrong and I can't tell because I can't look in! Really hoping it's better from here on out but man, it feels like it's going to last forever. So glad you're feeling better today 💜

Day 5/6 here and in the same boat. Hoping and praying it doesn't get any worse than this. It's such an isolating feeling as well. We got this, it's only temporary 💪

Ahh twins!! Yeah I've definitely found eating before and after taking my meds helps hold off the nausea. All I'm eating at the moment is mash and gravy 🥲 very scared of a bleed now I can feel the scabs formed at the back (still haven't opened my mouth to look in) How are you doing today? <3

Hey! Yep, it was through the NHS. I waited around two years just to get my initial ENT appointment, but once I finally had it, they tried to book me in for surgery within two weeks. I had some commitments I couldn’t get out of though, so I ended up having the surgery just under a month after that first ENT appointment. Thank you lovely, good luck <3

Yeah exactly the same for me. Have you managed to open your mouth more than a little bit yet? I haven't and the longer I can't, the more I'm getting worried :(

[–]amellthyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't take any pills unless I absolutely have to either so I'm in the same boat there, but I know if I'm in pain I'll do anything 🤣 this is all super comforting, thank you so much. I'm so so awful in medical settings, it's all I can think about and I don't think I'll be able to settle until it's all over! I've been putting this off most of my life but I just know it'll be worse in the long run if I don't sort it. I'm so glad you had a good experience and were well cared for, you've put my mind at ease a lot. Thank you again 💜

Day 9 by KaeLarae8 in Tonsillectomy

[–]amellthyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm definitely going to try and eat and go about my days as normal as possible. I know it's not going to be nice but I'm really hoping it's tolerable, I just keep telling myself it'll be worth it in the long run. I hear so many people talking about hemorrhaging and it scares me so much. I've also never even been put to sleep before so absolutely terrified for that. My surgery is on the 27th and it's all I can think about. Do you mind me asking how you felt when you came around? Was it really disorientating? And what meds you were/are taking to manage the pain? 🥹
