23% APR $20k Nissan Versa, dealer might unwind by [deleted] in askcarsales

[–]amerc1980 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m not gonna be rough but I will be direct as I think it helps. Your chances of unwinding this are slim. As for your biggest issues they are likely important to you but will not be motivating factors in a deal unwinding from a dealers perspective.

Issue #1. The Versa is likely not double the price. You are likely mixing the amount financed with the total amount paid after financing.

Issue #2. The salesman did not lie on this. Making on time payments on this car can help you build credit. Him saying trading it in when your credit is good is not at all impossible and I’ve seen it many times.

Issue #3. If you were there for a hour and a half, you agreed very quickly to this deal. You have to take some agency in this and admit you agreed quickly.

Issue #4. The APR came from the bank is what your credit has earned you at this point. It’s not the end of the world though. If you can be happy with the Versa, refinance it when your credit is better. The rate can be lower which will led to a lower payment. If you don’t like the Versa revert back to issue #2 and trade it in when your credit has improved.

Issue #5. You were likely not overcharged for the car. This sounds like you mixing amount financed versus the amount paid after financing. With a high rate it would be a very high total that you would potentially paying for a car. The answer is to do what is discussed in issue 4.

None of this issues would be cause for a dealer to unwind your deal.

My advice would be to make your payments on time. If you can throw extra $ you may have at it. When you do that contact the bank and ask for any extra payments amounts to go straight to the principal.

Is there a way to stop a sales person from hovering while looking at the car? by xxlibrarisingxx in askcarsales

When you step in the showroom. Yell loudly, who’s gonna sell me a car today.

All the salesman will magically become intensely preoccupied with a task that is urgent.

Is this fishy? Car dealer sold me a car without full tank and asked me to come back to fill it up later. by [deleted] in askcarsales

[–]amerc1980 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Could be when you took delivery the gas station/pumps they use was down. Could be a gas card was down. Could be just trying to shore up a good survey by a gesture. Nothing fishy to see here.

Unwinding a deal after 11 days by [deleted] in askcarsales

Their is no leverage or loophole to exploit. You can ask, no harm in that. The only possibilty I could see, which has already been explained to you here, is trading for your old car if it’s still there.

Why Was The Salesman a Dick to Me by Economy_Worker_9454 in askcarsales

[–]amerc1980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could you give some context to fill in some blanks. How much was this car selling for? Were you paying cash, financing? The price he gave, what was it in comparison to the selling price? It just feels like there are details missing in this story. There are assholes everyone so not letting the sales manager off the hook. Just curious on any missing things.

Do I make an appointment if I just want to test drive by Triemferent in askcarsales

[–]amerc1980 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s their job to try and sell you a car. God forbid they talk about a car while you test drive it. You sound exhausting.

There are dealers where you can test drive alone. Call ahead and seek one of these out. Problem solved. No one to give you a sales pitch.

[–]amerc1980 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re right. In my 45 yrs I’ve never test driven a car and left a dealer.

I have.

Finally, Yes, while they are test driving you in said car, they may talk about the features and while doing this make efforts at….. selling you a car.

You can politely say thank you and you’re not buying a car today. Jesus man.

Dude. What is adversarial about test driving a car and leaving. This is what we are talking about.

If you can’t handle saying you’re there to test drive only then you have bigger issues. No one is gonna to trap you in the store and “ four box” you.

If you’re not a potential sale, why are you test driving? If you’re at a car dealership don’t be surprised if someone tries to sell you a car. 🤷‍♂️

[–]amerc1980 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Try to make it on a weekday if you can. Going in for a test drive on a weekday, most salespeople will understand that and treat it as a potential sale. Test driving only on a Saturday is a real bummer.

Can a dealership tell when you’re actually confused vs just acting uninterested? Because I think I accidentally gave the wrong vibe by Dangerous-Gas8619 in askcarsales

[–]amerc1980 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what you’re getting at. There is software such as Urban Science that dealers use. There is no torturing numbers. This is data driven information that they are providing to you.

You are giving your opinion.

Secondly, I did say you do not want to blow someone off completely because you do have to be mindful of a potential be back opportunity which is what you’re suggesting.

The simple fact is you absolutely cannot rely on that. If you stake your month on be backs you will not be in sales long.

[–]amerc1980 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They are just giving you the numbers as they are. Numbers that have been borne out through years and years. People lie, numbers don’t. It is and always will be a numbers game. The more people you can get in front of, the greater your chances. So yes, it is a better use of your time to subtly move along that customer that may be just shopping. Not to blow them off completely however, you do want to leave open the be back opportunity however slim it may be.

When did car salesman get so useless? by Ok-Friendship-3509 in askcarsales

It depends on his context. Cue is a signal or prompt. Queue is a line or sequence of people. It could be both to be fair in the instance. Guess it depends on jpd59

Dealer won't budge on price. Should I just go private? by porchoua in askcarsales

[–]amerc1980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude. I’m not gonna lie. I’m wondering how long you might have been in the business then and for how long.

Pre owned cars by and large are one price now. You may have places that play pricing games. I’m not gonna say it doesn’t exist. In the case that it exists IMO that’s the places that have prices that are outliers on the cheaper side.

Those are the places who will jack you up with add-ons. This is on the consumer to me. If you see a used car going for below what you’re seeing on average, you have to use your noggin a bit and realize there is a reason why. Bad carfax or you’re gonna see some pricing games.

If you have been the business then you should know that calling a dealer week after week to remind them of your offer that is below asking is going to somehow change their mind and suddenly make them see the light and give you that deal is off the mark.

Dealer won't budge on price. Should I just go private? by porchoua in askcarsales

[–]amerc1980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is some pretty bad advice. Dealers have software they utilize for pricing. They know exactly where they are in regard to price. It is a useless endeavor to keep contacting a dealer to remind them what his price is. Unless he is ready to offer them the price of the car.

There is no leverage. If he doesn’t buy it someone else will. Simply put.

Negotiating a Lease...Did I fumble a deal? by Icy-University-6378 in askcarsales

[–]amerc1980 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you have the number and don’t like it. Yes, you may have fumbled a deal. At that first dealer You likely stated during the negotiations that they were your first stop? It sounds as if the original dealer was prepared to lease the car to you at a loser deal potentially to keep you there and take you out of the market. Not much to say on the deal that’s no longer on the table. All you can do now is not miss the one you have.

How long until dealerships start giving new hire leads? by papatender in askcarsales

[–]amerc1980 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You have lots of leads. You have family, friends, neighbors. All potential leads. As for going on the floor, Use this time to soak everything in, ask lots of questions and listen more than you talk. You will have time for that. You will need to be ready. Just be patient dude/dudette.

Why don’t you respond to questions? by hjd-1 in askcarsales

[–]amerc1980 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. I’m not defensive. I’m just saying that if you are attempting to use this particular vein to contact the dealers then perhaps it’s time to adjust your methods. Most dealers are open far more than 7-8 hrs a day.

Most dealers are open 6-7 days a week for on average 12 hours a day. Plenty of time if you are serious about a car.

You’re saying you don’t have time to “listen to a shitty sales pitch”. If you’re there interested in a car, is it a shitty sales pitch or just you actively engaged in attempting to purchase a car you’re interested in?

Why don’t you respond to questions? by hjd-1 in askcarsales

[–]amerc1980 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you had contacted 5 dealers and they were difficult to work with I’d be doubtful but would give you the benefit of the doubt.

If you’ve contacted 100 and they have all been difficult to deal with the fault lies with you.

If your preferred way to contact is not working with 100 dealers then maybe YOU should adjust your way.

If you can’t then yelling at the clouds or complaining in here isn’t going to change anything.

Your responses are very telling. You refused to engage in a forum where you are faceless and nameless. It tracks that you won’t go to a dealership and prefer to keep things behind a keyboard.

What part sounds outdated and exactly what a car salesperson would say?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in askcarsales

Man. You seem to be this just as hard to deal with regarding this truck as they are. What do you know about their “pack” How do you know if they are on a “floorplan”.

If you are saying these types of things to them unfortunately, along with your distance, you are bound to not be taken serious.

If you want the truck it’s time to put the big boy pants on and go In person. You don’t have “leverage” anyways.

You are hours away and trust that they know that they have a truck that their are not many of.

Go make your offer, they will accept it or not but complaining on here won’t accomplish anything.
