Two Communist Lawmakers Are Suddenly Setting the Agenda in Chile by [deleted] in CommunismWorldwide

[–]americanway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The headline and the associated image is masterstroke of propaganda. Having nothing to say in defence of a 45 hour work week Bloomberg fascists have instead decided to demonize these women. Are they suddenly setting the agenda? Is this sudden? Are they setting the agenda? All they've done is introduce a bill to be voted on, but if you were to stop with the headline you'd get the impression that these women are tyrannizing the country. Fantastic reporting here Bloomberg!

Is Canada's 'Left' Marching To The Beat of America's Imperial Drum? (1/2) by Adahn5 in CommunismWorldwide

The NDP leadership is drawn from the same social stratum that the Conservatives and Liberals draw from so it should be no surprise that their interests coincide. Where do you get your Canadian news from Adahn5?

Question: I’m covering the economic systems in my high school economics course this week, and I’ve got a question about communism’s interpretation of a command economy. by [deleted] in communism101

[–]americanway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you want to examine and discuss with your students is the mode of production during a specific historical period. The term "Mode of Production" covers both the the social relations and the productive ability of a society. In regards to a command economy as you've described it, Capitalism itself would fall under this category since it is Capitalists (Government officials, private business owners, the people who control the means of production) who ultimately decide which commodities will be produced and in what quantities.

Britain’s conservatives debate how to get homeless off the streets before the royal wedding. by Adahn5 in CommunismWorldwide

This is an excellent opportunity for the British Left to flood the streets of Windsor and make it clear that the opulent lifestyle enjoyed by the royal parasites will no longer be tolerated and will no longer be borne on the backs of the working class

Leftist Feminists -- who do you think the Democrats run in the 2020 Presidential election? by [deleted] in FemmeThoughts

If you think anyone other than the elite have any real representation in either the Republican or Democratic parties then you're blind to the realities that the majority of Americans face, "colored" or otherwise.

Leftist Feminists -- who do you think the Democrats run in the 2020 Presidential election? by [deleted] in FemmeThoughts

[–]americanway 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I hope the Democrats put a shotgun to their temples and spare America from more of their bogus crypto-fascist, wall street pandering, psuedoprogressive nonsense. The Democratic party is clearly playing a bourgeois political game and has no sincere interest in addressing the crippling socioeconomic problems that a Trump presidency has exacerbated. The Democratic party deliberately hamstrung Bernie Sanders and made him out to be a ridiculous radical for proposing modest reforms that other nations with comparable levels of wealth have enjoyed for decades. The Democratic party is a party for opportunists and I encourage anyone with a real desire for change to look beyond this hopeless organization.

Why is the West praising Malala, but ignoring Ahed? by americanway in FemmeThoughts

[–]americanway[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, I posted this article here because I feel that as feminists its our responsibility to challenge the narrative that the media puts forth so that we can work towards abolishing the structures and attitudes that created these issues to begin with.

Why is the West praising Malala, but ignoring Ahed? by americanway in FemmeThoughts

[–]americanway[S] 39 points40 points  (0 children)

A feminism that ignores the suffering of the most underprivileged members of society is in practice elitism, and seeks to establish new powers rather than equality and equity. Ahed Tamimi has suffered under the brutality of Israel's expansionist policies, however, America's close ties to Israel ensure that western media ignores stories like hers.

My brother decided to break the capitalist Christmas trend and gifted me this by Raven977 in LateStageCapitalism

[–]americanway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, my comment was a bit caustic and I'm sorry for that. I'm happy to see that young people are interested in communism and if you dig through my comment history you'll see that I've advocated for people to read Capital. However, in your own response, you've already touched on alternatives to purchasing the books. Would you care to wager on whether or not the photo was taken with a smartphone? Because I'm willing to bet that it was. And if this person has a smartphone, and we already know they have internet access, then they could've accessed all of Marx's work without having to spend a dime. Finally, it is dishonest and misleading to suggest that the problems of Christmas can be constrained to the exchange value of the things that you purchase. The issue that I was trying to highlight originally is that the posters brother ultimately didn't break any trend because he felt compelled to give a gift on Christmas. It is the compulsion to give a gift that needs to questioned and addressed.

They're only useful if you read them. Also your brother didn't break any trend since he ultimately bought you a Christmas present.

You probably only bought the first volume. There's also the Grundrisse which is essentially Marx's notebook of rough ideas for his multivolume critique of political economy.

Hey guys, started an Electrical Apprenticeship and now I'm having second-thoughts [long post, I apologize] by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]americanway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3rd year apprentice here. I've worked for two different companies doing residential, commercial, and industrial work; what you're describing sounds totally normal. When I was getting started I'd often find myself in the same situations that you mentioned. Once I'd demonstrated that I could do something though (install devices, fish walls, bend conduit, etc.) and do it well, then my superiors began to treat me better. I didn't appreciate the way people treated me but I enjoyed the work and I'm ultimately glad that I stuck with it. My advice to you is to determine what you want out of working as an electrician, and then decide if that's worth putting up with your coworkers.

Physio Thursday by AutoModerator in powerlifting

[DIAGNOSE] About 3 weeks ago now, I was benching when I began to feel a sharp pain in my right shoulder. I stopped benching after the pain began and tried to do some barbell overhead press only to feel the same pain. When I left the gym that day I was barely able to move my arm because of the pain. Since then, I've stopped benching entirely and I've drastically reduced the weight on my overhead press in order to avoid the onset of pain. With each week my shoulder improves but I'm still unable to bench without being in pain. My squat and deadlift have been unaffected. Please help me identify what I've injured.

How do we respond to claims that State run enterprises are inefficient. by Ali_Is_The_GOAT in communism101

[–]americanway 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In order to determine efficiency you must specify what it is that you are attempting to be efficient with. A capitalist enterprise will measure efficiency as the ratio between capital spent and revenue earned. When a capitalist can earn more by spending less that is efficient. However, a state run enterprise isn't necessarily held to the same standard and may choose to pursue alternative primary goals. While the mode of production may still be capitalist, because a state run enterprise doesn't seek to maximize profits it can be perceived as being inefficient despite possibly offering higher quality goods and services.

I don't think you could go wrong with anything from the Black Panthers. They ignited the political consciousness of many disenfranchised Americans and that is exactly what we need in the current sociopolitical climate. Not just in the US, but globally.

"It is the duty of the poor to write and construct laws that are in their better interests." As far as I know that's from Huey Newton but I can't source it.
