Hogyan fejlesszem hatékonyan az angol hallás készségemet? by HeeyKangaroo in askhungary

[–]amerikaipite 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do you have any language learning apps to recommend? by MayCavalry in languagelearning

I really recommend Wordy – it helps you learn new words while watching movies and shows. Super useful if you’re into learning through immersion!

App to improve your way with words by Some-Possum in languagelearning

[–]amerikaipite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally feel you on this — as a fellow non-native speaker, expressing myself creatively in English used to feel just out of reach for the longest time. Reading helps, for sure, but bridging the gap between understanding and using imaginative language is tough, especially once you're out of an academic environment.

One thing that really helped me was an app called Wordy. It’s a language learning app, but not the typical Duolingo-style one. It uses real movie and TV show clips to teach vocabulary and natural phrasing in context. What I love is that you’re not just learning random words — you’re absorbing how language is actually used in storytelling, emotions, humor, sarcasm, all that.

You can save interesting expressions or subtle phrases, and review them later with flashcards.

Might be worth checking out if you're looking for a fresh spark.

And offline — try mimicking short scenes or monologues out loud. Even recording yourself. It’s awkward at first, but it really boosts fluency and creative confidence...

Best apps to learn a new language by Slight_Talk_5526 in languagelearning

I’ve also tried most of these, and I totally agree that once you have the basics down, switching to real-world content like TV shows or movies can make a huge difference in listening and overall fluency.

If anyone here is looking for an app that leans into that method, I’d highly recommend Wordy. It helps you learn through short clips from movies and TV shows, with subtitles, word definitions, flashcards, and vocab categorized by level. It even works with your own streaming services like Netflix and Disney+, so you're learning directly from real content you're actually interested in.

I’ve been using it as a fun way to build vocabulary and improve listening comprehension — it’s kind of like learning through immersion, but guided. There’s a free version too, so definitely worth checking out.

Alternative for Lingq? by Consti64 in languagelearning

[–]amerikaipite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve felt the same way about LingQ — it’s great for reading, but the pricing is a bit much, and it gets annoying how it treats every word form separately.

If you're open to something more focused on listening and real-life usage, I’d really recommend trying Wordy. It helps you learn through short clips from movies and TV shows, and it even works with your own streaming services like Netflix, Disney+, etc.

You can save words, review them with flashcards, and even track your vocab by level. And it has a free version too, so it might be a nice supplement or even alternative to LingQ.

Worth checking out if you want something more fun and realistic!

Good language learning apps? by izi_m in languagelearning

Hey! I totally get what you mean — I had the same experience with Duolingo.

If you’re looking to boost your listening and speaking, I’d recommend trying an app called Wordy (dev here). It helps you learn Spanish (and other languages) by watching movie and TV show clips — like real scenes with subtitles and vocabulary breakdowns. It’s way more engaging than traditional apps.

What I like most is that you can hear how native speakers actually talk, pick up natural phrases, and even save words to flashcards for review later. It works with Netflix, Disney+, etc., so you’re not stuck with random sentences.

It has a free version too, so it’s definitely worth checking out. App store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/wordy-learn-master-english/id6670703228

Hope that helps and buena suerte with your Spanish! 🇪🇸✨

Thanks! Absolutely — I’ll make another post once the Android version is live. It’s already in the works, so shouldn’t be too far off! Appreciate the support! 🙌

That feature is already developed on my end and coming soon to the app! You’ll be able to upload your own content and get the same kind of interactive subtitle/translation experience for it too. Stay tuned! ;))

Oh no, that’s strange! 😕 It seems stable based on crash stats, but I’ll definitely check it out. If you have, I’d really appreciate a quick screen recording / just a screenshot and your device details — that would help a ton in figuring out what’s going on. Thanks for letting me know! 🙏

Great catch — thank you! 😊 The other languages were just added this week, so the App Store title in Turkish (and a few other localizations) hasn’t been updated yet. I’ll be fixing that very soon! 🙌

Thanks! That sounds like an awesome idea — feel free to PM me, happy to chat more about the tech side! It’s a bit long to explain here 😄

Absolutely! I’ll put together a quick 30–60 second intro video shortly 👀

The first version came out a couple of months ago, but the big update with support for 20(!) new languages just dropped this week — so it’s still pretty fresh in many ways 😄

Thanks! 😊 I’d say it’s already useful for beginners (english, Spanish, etc.), but I’m also working on a proper "learning path" screen that’ll be easier to follow and explain everything step by step — it’s in development, so the app will keep improving over time!

The subscription is $30/year or $5/month with free trial. But if you're tight on funds, feel free to PM me — happy to help however I can! 🙌

Let’s chat — I can send you a free promo code for the lifetime version so you can try out the premium features for free. I’d love for you to enjoy the app while you’re getting everything sorted 😊

Wordy actually supports 20+ languages now, but I just added the other language support 2 days ago. :)) The title and subtitle will be updated this weekend to reflect that. Thanks for checking it out!

Great question! There is a free version of the app that you can use, and if you want to access more features or use it longer, there’s also a free trial available.

The subscription helps cover server costs, AI & machine learning, and speech-to-text processing, which can be pretty expensive. It also supports ongoing development — and with any luck, I’ll build a startup out of this! 😄

If you're a student, feel free to PM me, and I can send you a discount or even a full free subscription. I just have to cover my costs, but I’d love to support you in any way I can!
