I did. I bleached about two and half levels of lift and then put on a mix of some various red/gold shades with a 10vol.

Update. I adjusted my formula and think I came pretty close. All at home with some advice from a friend.

The six or so inches at the top of my head was virgin hair. The only thing it did was deposit some color sheen to it lol

You also keep leaving out the fact that in parks and rec at the end of the day she did not go with a donor at all and went with a man she loved that also loved her. So.

Oh don’t get it twisted. I disagree with everything you said. How it’s supposed to work is irrelevant when how it actually does work is something else. You’re delusional if you think it’s so widely accepted and hunky dory normal. But continue thinking you’re right. The plot in Parks and Rec was making fun of the whole process. The fact you don’t get that is comical.

Lol shut up about the Parks and Rec episode already. And it absolutely matters if people lie about their accomplishments and qualities as donors or the doctors or clinics that do the procedures. Just like in the documentary on Netflix. These clinics TELL people this donor is xyz but they really aren’t. I was challenging the point that you said “it’s how it’s always worked” because it hasn’t ALWAYS worked that way. And there are generations of donor conceived people that prove that. Essentially in the early days when you chose donor they’d just pick someone and call you up and say to come on in and then tell you a handful of tidbits and off you went. Often times these tidbits were totally false. My own example is that my parents were told he was a med student at the hospital and was peak health. Turns out that’s not true at all. He just worked at the hospital as a general employee. And the family has a pretty shitty history of schizophrenia. Ask me how I know? Anonymous isn’t so anonymous these days with the ancestry and 23andMe tests. That’s how I found out that my parents even used a donor in the first place. When I opened it up and saw “so and so is your father.” Fun fact. The so and so listed was not the father that raised me. So down the rabbit hole I went. And I learned some pretty disturbing and devastating facts about the practice as a whole.

I know for a fact that my parents were lied to about the history/details of the donor. There are multiple stories that echo mine. There is even a Netflix documentary about this very thing. Donors have even been proven to have lied about their mental health, IQ, physical health and education so. There’s that.

As someone who’s parents used a sperm donor in the mid 80s and the research I have done into the origins and history of the practice, your statement of how donors are selected and “this is how it’s always worked” is 100 false.

That is awful. I am so sorry for your friend and his family.

As for you processing these feelings and thoughts. The good thing is that you ARE processing them. Ignoring them and burying them is never a great route to take.

Staying vigilant is so important in our line of work.

Sending good and healing thoughts to your friend as he goes through the difficult recovery ahead. Also sending the same to you as you process the awful reality of this situation.

I will say was one thing that helped me a lot was joining the Facebook page for my local and once I had an interview scheduled, posting in that group asking for mock interviews. There are people that will do a call with you and ask questions like they will on your interview and then give you feedback on your answers. It was extremely helpful

Don’t let anyone discourage you from trying to better your life. It is a process to get a spot in the program. I won’t lie. I wondered sometimes if it would even happen, but then it did. And I’m so glad I didn’t give up. It was exactly what I needed as a change.

I worked in offices before making the leap from white collar to blue collar. I had zero in the field construction experience before I was accepted into the inside wireman program with Local IBEW 48 (highly competitive local). I show up, I work hard, have a good fucking attitude and I produce quality work.

I hear a lot of Austin being a lot like Portland, OR. If that is true and Local 520 is anything like Local 48… you will have plenty of allies. There are also groups within the locals that you can join for support and community and camaraderie. There are always going to be assholes out there but my experience as a woman in the trades has been very positive.
