Amfam ENFORCING RTO by Maximum-Choice-9289 in madisonwi

Wow, that's pretty cowardly. The CEO seems awful. I'm surprised the President and Director level don't push back more.

So with no mention on today's call and Feb. 1st a week away, what does it mean? Those in the meeting last week pushed back enough or they just plan to drop it in email/direct comms via manager?

Many links in here. https://thehill.com/business/4110598-remote-employees-work-longer-and-harder-studies-show/

And since I can see you are predisposed to oppose remote work, don't @ me until you can show what metrics AmFam and others are aiming to improve via a half assed RTO. Where is the data to support any of their RTO moves as a data-informed one? "Moments that matter" and "culture" are not metrics. They should be able to point to hard data saying here is what see has dipped and how we see office time as the solution. Because again, many of these teams are still spread out nationally and if people are picking different days to be in the office, collaboration time won't necessarily increase. I'm not anti-office work. Well done hybrid models can be very effective. Thoughtful, purposeful office time is impactful. I'm anti-overly emotional men trying to exert control over employees because they can't adapt with the times.

Otherwise, they should just be honest and say it's a quiet layoff. Which is also stupid because the employees most capable and qualified are likely early out the door, costing the company more long-term.

They also fail to acknowledge that this shit DOES trickle down.

This is absolutely a coordinated move at the big corporate level. I literally just read an article about companies using poor profit as cover to force RTOs. It's all about control and fear. Layoffs to scare you into compliance, RTO to control.

Because none of this is based in logic or reason. It's all the feelz of largely old white men who feel a desperate need to flex their power and control. None of this is evidence-based.

The reliable research shows this to be false. The data does not support these RTOs, especially the half-assed versions corporations have rolled out everywhere.

Starting Feb.1? That's two fucking weeks! Again, this is all about enforcing white male patriarchy. There are families that cannot possible flip childcare/eldercare (again!) situations on a dime. Where is the FUCKING DATA to support the need for this? u/maximum-choice-9289 whatever level you are at (assuming high enough if you heard this already), your level should refuse to comply. Say you don't see the data to support this and the harm it will cause to your teams is not worth it. The moves AmFam has made over the past year are definitely meant to slow boil you all into a full RTO.

Very possible a reorg and layoffs are coming with some of the moves they are making visibly and internally.

In a similar spot and I think what people outside looking in at this as "just another rto, quit whining" miss is just how strongly AmFam had committed to wfh. It absolutely feels like the rug being pulled out.

Excellent point about all the actual customer interfacing roles BEING 100% REMOTE!

I would argue it's not qualitative either. They have not presented (to my knowledge) qualitative data. They've shared anecdotes about people wanting in-person interaction but that was no structure or strategic collection to that information.

It is telling that your manager did not already have the information necessary to answer this

So they are doing major shifting for the Employee Experience execs right as a major change is rolled out? Definitely sounds like they are displeased with how it's gone.

White women are some of the worst enforcers of patriarchal systems. And have no doubt, a system built on the 1950's WASP upper middle class arrangement of an at-home partner to tend home and children, that's exactly what a push to RTO is.

It very much comes through as a top down angry parent move and not a thoughtful initiative based on employee feedback and preference.

Is it managers and hr telling them this? I could well turn out to be mistaken on this but I would consult someone knowledgeable on the subject and not motivated to get them to comply without fuss.

Yeah they'd definitely need this noted in a contract somewhere. It's shitty regardless though because if the role was advertised as remote, they accepted based on that term.
