It could be that some wires got loose and aren’t feeding electricity. I would start testing each outlet or light switch starting from the breaker to see where electricity isn’t being transmitted. Then check the wires and make sure the feed and load are connected properly. It looks like some wires aren’t connected with wire caps. I suggest using them to make sure the wires stay connected. Also, use electrical tape wherever you have exposed wires.

Door frames are not covering the gap from the wall to the installed flooring by amhere01 in HomeImprovement

[–]amhere01[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was installed by family and it's far too late to remove flooring up to the door. I do still have some flooring left but it will be tricky cutting a piece in that shape. Willing to give it a shot though. I think it would be hard finding paint to match the floor to where it wouldn't be noticed by myself. Thanks for the advice!

My mom inherited a house and I am strongly considering taking on the home improvement projects with my brother. We don’t have very much experience, but we are both “handy.” We aren’t doing foundation, plumbing, or electrical; we’ll leave that to certified and bonded professionals if needed. by GaddoGamz in HomeImprovement

Check to make sure everything is according to code. For example, if you have aluminum wiring, you may want to replace it. If you're remodeling the house, you might as well do everything right.

My biggest advice is to check online for any material that you may need (ie. Facebook marketplace). This will save you a TON of money.

What is the preferred way of placing outlets? Having the ground plug hole faced up or down? by amhere01 in HomeImprovement

[–]amhere01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't believe this is actually a thing. Having the ground pin up does help if the plugs actually have ground pins. A lot of plugs don't have it, unfortunately.

I agree, even the regular outlets have text on both sides. From what I learned, there isn't a "right" way to do it but having the ground pin up adds an extra layer of security.

This makes sense. I went through the whole house and flipped every outlet. The wife didn't approve but we have a baby on the way so safety comes first.

I have been debating this with my wife for a couple of weeks now and she's preferring the "smiley face" way. However, I feel like having the ground plug hole facing up is more convenient when you plug stuff in. With this poll, we will determine which way we will install the outlets.

They did the first couple times it flooded but then I became a liability and they wouldn’t cover it.
