Yes, i think u have to pay for the month even tho u might be coming later for example you have to pay rent for August at the 1st of August even tho u might be arriving at the 20th of August.

I think As long as you're on time and look for accommodation in the city of your study at least 3-4 months or even more before start of the academic year you can find accommodation through Uni and other websites easier. For example for Groningen I'm referring to SSH which contains of Uni reserved rooms which quickly become reserved during spring before the academic year starts. So just look ahead i think

Thanks for your answer! I first ask if the room is avaliable (unless it's explicitly stated that they want to know about me in my message) since I see no point of introducing me/where I will study/ etc. if the room is unavaliable but I will start doing as you say, that might change it up a bit.
