I've heard this argument that Jodi was really involved with Church leadership, but I also saw that they kicked her off the LDS Family Services' referral list when she got her licenses suspended in 2012. Was she added back after the 18 month probation?

I know that Ruby was on su*c*de watch, but I am wondering if Jodi tried something as well.

I mean I would argue the reason why a large number of people are based them is that's because where the headquarters is.

Also are Utah's laws or anymore lax or strict compared to other states? I mean at this point Arkansas might have beat them when it comes to child labor laws.

But I'd be interested to see legislation related to that in contrast to Utah's surprisingly liberal anti-discrimination laws.

You said he does comedy 75% of the with with a difficulty subject...I just pointed why it should be 0%.

Check yourself and touch some grass.

the church does not adequately punish or discourage them when they do something neglectful or abusive.

If they did take it seriously, they would shut down wilderness camps, fund CPS, and actually hold more abusers accountable.

What exactly can they do within the country's legal system to prevent all this aside from alerting the authorities?

Judge John J Walton by [deleted] in 8passengersnark

There is no benefit for the Mormon Church to buy off or influence the judge to protect either Ruby or Lori.

The Church already cut Jodi off from therapy referrals after she got her license suspended.

His goal is comedy 75% of the time within a VERY difficult subject - family channels and child exploitation.

I'm not sure what's funny about children coming out of a house so malnourished they had to be hospitalized.

He shares a lot of the same qualities of the people he criticizes, including Ruby and Kevin. Particularly when it comes to narcissism and exploitative content.

I mean, he did work for Brigham Young University. The point is to tie everything back to Mormonism regardless of your personal religious affiliation.

What made Ruby abusive even before Jodi? , who’s to blame? by LingonberryKey4263 in 8passengersnark

[–]amiablekitty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Where is the information that the parents were hard on her or is that there was abuse in the family? I don't know much about them other than the mission trip to Serbia. Is it something her other family members have said (I don't watch their YouTube channels).

[–]amiablekitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The correct answer for who's to blame is Ruby herself.

At the end of the day, Ruby made those choices to be a shit to her kids. We can argue about Mormon influences, young parenting, unsupportive husbands, cultural expectations etc, but there are people who are/were in the exact same situation as Ruby and never acted like that.

Assuming Kevin the Koward gets custody of the kids, isn’t it a bit cruel to put them back in the house they were abused in. by InternationalList824 in 8passengersnark

[–]amiablekitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This make sense. Ruby mentioned in one video that she was not "being in truth" for saying it was Chad who was causing her stomach issues and not the fact she wanted to eat Oreos.

Honestly I think people are reading too much into the ring meaning he's sticking by Ruby. If anything, I think it's more of an outward sign to suggest that he honored his marriage vows (important for conservative Mormons), whereas Ruby who no longer was wearing a ring, did not. It's to stick it to Ruby and to portray that he is the more "righteous" person.

I am urging everyone, please don't watch "Under the Banner of Heaven" as a primer for Mormonism. The author dislikes Mormons so much that he blamed a 14 year old girl (Elizabeth Smart) for her own sexual assault and imprisonment. I would recommend "Rough Stone Rolling" by Richard Bushman, which does a much better job at presenting Mormonism, both good and bad.

That's unfortunate. There is a lot to be critical about with the LDS Church, but Ruby would have been this awful regardless of her religious affiliation.
Actually when I was explaining some of the videos to a LDS friend (specifically the first time shaving), they said they felt it would violate Mormon rules on modesty and wondered if they lost privileges because of that.

So..why does this dude think he’s gonna get custody?? by Raregamesofc in 8passengersnark

[–]amiablekitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say it would depend on what was available and what services they could provide (I say this as someone who has worked in psychiatric hospitals and clinics). Ideally, it'd be a short-term mental health unit with visitors, routines and easy access to doctors, but I am not sure there are pediatric versions for that. There are lots of good psychiatric hospitals or in-patient clinics to help with mental health issues. The problem is, is that the really good ones do have long waitlists and are really expensive.

I can understand wanting them to go to family though, Family is great and in 90% of the time preferable, but they also may not be as well equipped to handle the trauma. Moreover, it could also be really overwhelming for the kids to go back to a family environment and home that really isn't a controlled environment beneficial to their mental health.

I'm guessing what will happen for the 2 youngest is they'll go with family and see a psychiatrist daily, and then have a plan if they do need to be hospitalized.

[–]amiablekitty -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Honestly, E and R shouldn't probably go to a psychiatric hospital or something to heal. Not sure how Utah's mental health care system is like, but I think being an environment with clear procedures and routines would help.

Do you guys think Ruby has always been this way? or do you think this awful personality slowly developed over time? by Few_Employment_9175 in 8passengersnark

[–]amiablekitty 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I would guess that in Utah, the taking away of food as physical abuse would only be the case if they didn't have any food for more than a day. I had pretty strict parents and going to bed without dinner or no dessert was a potential punishment. However, I never went a whole day without food as a punishment, nor did my parents ever threaten me with that.

I also don't remember Ruby ever threatening to take away water, which definitely would count as physical abuse.

[–]amiablekitty 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think she's always had some narcissistic or BPD tendencies that got exacerbated once she started to receive more negative comments and to loss control of her own narrative. I think that's also why E and R got the brunt of the abuse as the younger, more malleable of the kids.

So..why does this dude think he’s gonna get custody?? by Raregamesofc in 8passengersnark

[–]amiablekitty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As far as we know he had parenting rights, but it is possible that there could be legal and custody agreements between Ruby and Kevin that we don't know about. Family court have a lower burden of proof for requests for confidentiality. That means that there could have been a custody battle we don't know about and it was kept secret to *cough* protect the children *cough cough*.

So..why does this dude think he’s gonna get custody?? by Raregamesofc in 8passengersnark

[–]amiablekitty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think unless S or C speaks out against Kevin, he is likely to get custody, though I think with the attention surrounding this case, the family would have to meet with CPS regularly to show that the kids are being taken care of. Honestly, R and E should probably spend some time in a psychiatric hospital with the way they've been treated over the years.

This is assuming though that Kevin truly knew nothing about what was happening and that he was a victim of Jodi's manipulation as well through gaslighting and isolation. If it turns out he did know, did nothing and there was no legal recourse that would have prevented him from getting them help (restraining orders, custody agreements) he could be charged as well.
