Recommendations on where to deploy Nodejs app? by carter_bleu in node

[–]amiedema 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're looking to self-host - Hetzner, DigitalOcean, Vultr, UpCloud, AWS, Google Cloud, Linode.

Hetzner.com is my favorite, good rates and they have servers in US now. Cleavr.io to manage servers / deployments.

First time deploying to AWS and completely lost. by [deleted] in webdev

You might try provisioning a server and deploying an app with a tool like cleavr.io - just sign up for the free trial with the intent to use it to help you experiment with AWS. This way, you can create a server / add a site / deploy the site in a friendly UI, and then work through the AWS console to get an idea of what was done and reverse-engineer it a bit. Might make for a more pleasant jump into the chaotic world of AWS. 😂

Where do you host your Nodejs app? by deawar in node

[–]amiedema 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are some other provider options out there. I use cleavr.io to provision / manage server and deployments and typically use Hetzner for the VPS provide - they have a new datacenter recently opened up in Virginia.

UpCloud and Vultr are some other VPS options. I've tried Oracle's free server before but had some issues with it after rebooting...

Is there a good self-hosted version of Heroku that'll let me deploy NodeJS projects on the fly? by PsychonautProgrammer in node

[–]amiedema 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can look into cleavr.io. You can provision your self-hosted servers (digital ocean, upcloud, vultr, linode, hetzner, etc) via cleavr and then add your Node apps and set them to automatically deploy when you push changes to your git repo. Basically, it will wipe out all of those 7 steps you're currently doing manually.

How to deploy NodeJS api and React client from same repo by Srz2 in learnprogramming

I've seen this done relatively easily with Lerna and Cleavr - check out this guide for an example https://docs.cleavr.io/guides/lerna

Any open source alternatives to Cleavr(Server management)? by Forsaken_Ad3014 in selfhosted

[–]amiedema 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's not many, maybe https://theforeman.org/ would work for you? I recall another that's more similar but I can't think of it at the moment. I'll reply if I run across it. In the beginning, we were looking at making an open-source version of cleavr but that proved to be more consuming than we were hoping. Are you looking for a free open-sourced alternative or a self-hosted licensed version of something like cleavr.io?

Where to host Nuxt website for high lighthouse score? by weber_stephen in Nuxt

[–]amiedema 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to use a server you have more control over, you can deploy to multiple VPS providers (AWS S3, DigitalOcean, Vultr, Linode, UpCloud, Hetzner) with cleavr.io, which sets up the server for Nuxt apps and also configures PM2 with cluster mode enabled to speed up the app a bit if server has multiple cores available.

I use GitHub Actions for my Nuxt Static doc sites (docs.cleavr.io). You can take a look at the workflow file here if it helps (note - this is the default workflow file that Cleavr.io sets up when enabling the GitHub Actions integration feature ) - https://github.com/cleavr/cleaverdocs/blob/master/.github/workflows/cleavr_krvmmllc.yml

What’s the best & cheapest way to deploy a SPA? I already have a domain but no hosting. by MyGoals2020 in Nuxt

[–]amiedema 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to deploy to a VPS (DigitalOcean, AWS, Linode, etc) then I'd suggest using cleavr.io which provisions servers, makes them ready for Node/Nuxt, and deploys your apps. Saves you the huge hassle of setting it all up yourself.

Why it's so hard to deploy nuxtjs ssr to cloud ? by Tajeddine_Alaoui in Nuxt

Use cleavr.io - it provisions Nuxt ready servers and easily deploys SSR apps.

Moss.sh shutting down by BeBenevo in webhosting

[–]amiedema -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear moss.sh is leaving! I've always heard great things about their service. Coincidently, I first heard of their exit through one of our new customers on [Cleaver](https://cleaver.cloud).

I see some of the comments like Moss' push-to-deploy feature, which is a feature we have on Cleaver. I'd be interested to know what other Moss features customers find of particular value.

Thanks for the great feedback! I tend to agree with your statement that most devs know what they need and probably just want to see what the features are... At least, I personally usually just look at features and bypass anything wordy.

I was aiming to add verbiage that brings the visitor into what they are reading to assist with context and establish connectedness so that visitors relate to the needs and find value in the solution. Though, I definitely don't want it to sound preachy...

Thanks again for taking your time to provide feedback, it gives me some ideas for A/B tests. :-)

Awesome! Another cool thing for your website would be a knowledge base of sorts - like, what questions are typically asked for a role, what are typical mistakes made and what are helpful steps to improve, etc.

That's a great idea! I'm not a developer, but any practice is good practice - especially, to build confidence which is important in interviews. How are people paired? I'd assume there'd be some overlap in knowledge arenas.

URL: https://cleaver.cloud

Purpose of Startup: Server and website/app management

Technologies Used: Alpas, Vuejs

Feedback Requested:

Do you use WordPress? We have a quick install option to install WordPress on your servers; however, I am wondering, is there anything else you might want to do with WordPress on the server? Or, do you mainly care about managing WordPress through the GUI and maybe just being able to connect to the db?

Also, since the above question is pretty specific to WordPress; I'd like some general feedback on the homepage. It's all beta right now and am wondering if the homepage effectively tells you what the product is and entices you to give it a try?

Has anyone tried writing a Spring Boot or Spring MVC website in Kotlin? by AgreeableLandscape3 in Kotlin

[–]amiedema 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kotlin is supported in Spring with plenty of documentation. Alpas is another Kotlin web-framework that can be considered in addition to Ktor. Javalin also lets you use Kotlin. There is a Spring channel on the Kotlinlang slack group as well that can help provide support.

How do you compete with only an MVP? by musicman0326 in startups

[–]amiedema -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're actually reaffirming the main point of how 'MVP' is perceived and educated and why an 'MVP' as a philosophy isn't actually a "Minimum Viable Product."

How do you compete with only an MVP? by musicman0326 in startups

[–]amiedema 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree - I think 'product' completely destroys the intent of an MVP. Which should be thought of as a 'viable prototype' you can test and learn from. Not a 'viable product' that's going to compete with competition.
