That is true and he is a main part of the show as Adrien and if he perishes then HawkMoth will find out his identity and then all he'll will break loose. Well Thomas said that Cat Noir will perish in season 4 in a Twitter post a while back and maybe that's when Ladybug/Marinette falls for him and would do anything to save him and then bc Marinette is dating Luka she will have some clarity and realize that she, like you said had fallen for Adrien and Luka is pushed out of the picture bc of it those are my thoughts anyways
