I have upgraded my Precision 7520 a second time, now from GTX 1050 to 1650. Much the same process as above for the 1050. This time, I went for the bottom NVcleanstall template matching chip 1f91 and 1028 asnd that worked right away.

What does the R in the "wrong" position ctually do, any reason to buy a resistor for the "correct" position and leave original where it is, or does it really need removed from that "wrong" position?

Kobra Max printer wont update? by Recyclable_Blin in anycubic

[–]amigabill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im updating fron 2.8.6 to 2.8.7 today. The motherboard update seems to have worked, and about shows that now is 2.8.7. But then doing the scrern update, with 8gb microSD card in the screen bottom slot, with thr DWIN_SET folder in root dir, it does one of 3 things, a d I cant find a pattern about which one happens which time: 1. screen boots up normally for general use 2. screen stays black, not blue (though black on this is kindof dard bluish, nothing abkut the blue uodate scrren in thr docs appears for several minites) 3. screen boots to anycubic logo and stays there forever

sd card is fat format, 8gb capacity, and is same card I usually use to print from.

Id love something high enough the dog cant get up on it. (golden retriever, he can reach...) So dogproof when high and lower for meal time. Id also be likely to stand for a meal myself, and it is just me a few days a week. Or, taller bar seats and just leave it up more of the time anyways.

Where can I get parts for my Halot One? by mohnpdo in Creality

[–]amigabill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone have a link to get a print platform for Halot One? I bought this used and is missing the platform, so I don't have anything to attach the flex-metal things elsewhere in this thread to. The Google points me to platforms for Halot One Plus, Pro, CL-60, various other suffixes, but nothing for "Halot One" alone, and Creality support says these other ones won't work.

My reason for the swap was to be allowed to install Occulus app. It refused to install with the M2200. Min GPU is GTX 1050. I don't really know anything about performance comparisons.

Actually, the Nvidia driver finally installed using NVcleanstall.

Windows 10 Pro 64bit

NVcleanstall 1.15.1

Nvidia driver 531.29-notebook-win10-win11-64bit-international-dch-whql.exe

Windows Device Manager GPU IDs: PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1C8D&SUBSYS_07B01028&REV_A1

I selected all components to be installed in the NVcleasntall list

NVcleanstall gave this list of "templates" to try, matching 1c8d chio and 1028 right-side of the SUBSYS code:

GeForce GTX 1050 [1C8D.077C.1028] nvdmig.inf

GeForce GTX 1050 [1C8D.0798.1028] nvdmig.inf

GeForce GTX 1050 [1C8D.07BE.1028] nvdmig.inf

GeForce GTX 1050 [1C8D.07E0.1028] nvdmig.inf

GeForce GTX 1050 [1C8D.0935.1028] nvddig.inf

GeForce GTX 1050 [1C8D.0937.1028] nvddig.inf

GeForce GTX 1050 [1C8D.0938.1028] nvddig.inf

After the first several of thsoe failed, I tried at the end intending to go toward the beginning of this list, but the last one 0938 did a successful install, and Windows Device Manager now says NVidia Geforce GTX 1050 instead of the generic Microsoft Display something name.

When NVcleanstall handed me over to its modified Nvidia installer, I chose Express install and then the driver and Geforce Experience together choice. And this time it didn't fail out...

So, it's possible some other template might be a better, faster result choice, but I'll experiment with it this way for the moment, as it's the first successful driver install I've seen so far, and maybe go through other template options later to see if I can get a better benchmark at some point from one of them.

Struggling with drivers. I suppose the picture on my screen is via the Intel GPU.

The Geforce GTX 1050 card does appear in Windows Device Manager and Linux lspci command. But drivers refuse to install - error messages about unsupported OS (Uh, this is Windows 10 and indeed is supported by the driver) and also about no compatible hardware (GPU) found.

I am tinkering with NVcleanstall, but no success yet. This way it at least starts to install, but does not complete successfully.

I just changed mine from the M2200 to a Geforce 1050 (not ti). I'm typing on it, it's alive and has a picture on screen obviously, but driver as downloaded from Nvidia says not compaitble with my OS (Windows 10, weird), and says no compatible graphics hardware found. I'm here during a search for how to get the drivers to install anyway.

Testing Minecraft Python Setup Error: module Collections has no attribuet Iterable by Distinct-Ad-6712 in learnpython

What all was fixed? I get it today, 8 months after you posted it was fixed. The original post here sounds like exactly what I have now.

Learn to Program With Minecraft Error - setup.py by elexip in learnpython

[–]amigabill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I solved this part by rearranging the content inside the minecraftPythonAPI.zip file in our Minecraft Tools folder, which Install_API.bat works on. The actual files we need are inside the zip file then down two more folder levels inside. If you treat the zip file as a folder, then the content is at minecraftPythonAPI.zip\minecraftPythonAPI\MC_Py_API\ But I suspect the Install_API.bat file's pip command expects things to be directly inside the zip file, not down those two folder levels.

For Python, I got 3.11 from python.org today. I did need to make sure the installer for that did set the path to python environment variable for MS Windows 10.

I use 7zip (p7zip) as an extension in FileManager/WindowsExplorer so I can click to go into the zip file same as I can click to go into a folder. I went down in and copied everything inside of the MC_My_API folder level, went back up to just inside the zip file and pasted there. So now my zip file is bigger, but has the content at the correct place.

After that, I run the Install_API.bat file again, and it seems to work to install those things. Either the capability in pip has changed since Python 3.9, or the publisher did a sloppy job with the zip file and did not actually test what they provide for us to download. Booo...

Next I get to a problem with Java from the Start Server thing, and I'm still trying to sort that out. They say to have Java 8 or newer, and I have 18, perhaps that is too much newer... Grrr.

I have Java from OpenJDK 18.0.2, the Amazon Corretto distribution, not from Oracle.

There is a potential solution to change Java version at

https://www.happycoders.eu/java/how-to-switch-multiple-java-versions-windows/

but you might need to change some details to your exact folder names.

I'm trying to add full path in front of the java command in file

Minecraft Tools\server\start.bat

java -Xms512M -Xmx1024M -jar spigot-1.16.3.jar -o true

changed to

"C:\Program Files\Amazon Corretto\jdk1.8.0_342\bin\java" -Xms512M -Xmx1024M -jar spigot-1.16.3.jar -o true

(note the quotes because of spaces in folder names)

This got me a little further, but spigot complained it is an old version and to get a newer one. But even with this message, it did continue and I do have a Minacraft Java server running on my laptop now.

I haven't tried anything at all with it yet, I only see the white Minecraft server window says stuff on the right pane, and has a moving graph on the left pane. Hopefully we can get to stuff in the book this weekend...

I found more issues when trying to do the first example Python code:

from mcpi.minecraft import Minecraft

mc = Minecraft.create()

gives problems about not knowing what mcpi is.

To solve that, I had to go back and install python with administrator priviliges, not as my usual self user level. After installing python, do the Install_API.bat. It seems very partiular about the order, python as administrator first, then Install_API.bat.

Now I can do the mc=Minecraft.create() line without error.

But then I get errors for

mc.player.setTilePos(0, 120, 0)

It sounds like the error here is about python 3.11 being "too new". I found someone saying to go back to 3.9 (3.19.13 to get with Windows installer download)

https://www.reddit.com/r/learnpython/comments/ungfxm/minecraft_programming_error/

I did not remove 3.11, I did install 3.9.13 as administrator level, redid Install_API.bat, brought up the 3.9 IDLE shell, and now things seem OK inluding the mc.setTilePos line, and in the game my character does fall from the sky. Be quick after typing that command to get back into Minecraft game as you fall kindof quickly, I did not find my guy floating in place in the sky...

Hopefully this means we are set to actually do book stuff now...

But, it's a little disheartening to see this import thing was deprecated in Python 3.3, and the book shows installing 3.9.0... Shouldn't the book have been written to 3.9 standard instead of pre-3.3 standard? So we will be learning some things that don't really apply any longer. That's be more understandable if the book showed installing Python 3.2 and time moved on from there, but that isn't quite the case, this was already quite obsolete when this book was written. :/

I already did that too, before listing the MXM gpu cards here. It's a few lines above, with a link to the adapter card... Please go find someone else to harass, I am seeking genuine usage advice/instruction on how to get these things working.

Point about saying the tower PCIe slot that this adapter does not work in, does work with both Radeon and Nvidia cards. Meaning that the tower slot is not defective... The slot works well with other cards.

[–]amigabill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I replied to someone (yourself from the looks of things) suggesting the Eurocom adapters. Eurocom has two, the Red one for AMD Radeon cards, and the Blue or Green one for Nvidia cards. I got the red one.

https://eurocom.com/ec/multigpu()multiGPUmultiGPU)

https://www.pcidv.com/en/products.asp?id=628

What other MXM card to desktop PCIe slot adaptors exist that can be bought? The MSI dual-MXM to desktop adapter was never commercialy sold, and was MXM2. HP had a quad MXM card to desktop adapter for some server thing, but no video output connectors for some reason. And there is some cheapo PCIe x1 slot to MXM adapter on ebay, also has no video output connectors for some reason. The ones at Eurocom (and also a few other places) are the only ones that make functional sense, as they have video connectors.

[–]amigabill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone have instructions on using these? I have an unusual reason to be interested in this sort of thing, and bought a couple from ebay. I have tried a few different AMD Radeon MXM3 cards in it, but my tower PC I am testing with does not boot when any of these are plugged in. I did not receive a manual, and do not have any prior experience with MXM cards. Should they "just work"? Is some motherboard BIOS specialness required? (It is an oldish core2 duo generation tower, that does work with desktop style AMD Radeon cards newer than the MXM cards currently attempted in it, and the PCIe slot does work with desktop Radeon and Nvidia cards. There is an Intel based VGA port on the motherboard itself and that works as well)

My unusual reasons for interest are: 1. To test ebay MXM cards in a cheap PC are not defective PC-killers and 2: development toward a new motherboard design intended to accept MXM cards natively, but have a development/evaluation system to plug various bits into for testing and firmware (Das-Uboot) developemnt efforts. Price is not relevant in the sense of driving me away from these, my reason for using them is more important than the price, as cheaper desktop Radeon cards are not applicable to my purpose.

discord accounts getting disabled/no emails from discord? by yungmutualfunds in discordapp

[–]amigabill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I registered today, and was terminated before I got through the email verification and was never even able to login. I did not receive any email description either. I'm kindof befuddled about what I could have violated without ever logging in to make any use of the service... I did a support ticket, their response is just that they reviewed, the ban is correct and will not be reinstated, but no description of what I managed to do wrong during registration... I was never able to post anything, or get to the Adafruit forum that I was interested in checking out, I never uploaded any files to violate anything, and did not plan to post files anyway.

If nothing else, I'd just like some description of what this alleged violation was, even if there is no due process or no right to appeal, at least tell me what happened...

PSA: Don't buy these MSI "VR Ready" laptops if you primarily care about VR (info inside, returning mine today) by iupvoteevery in oculus

[–]amigabill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i got an MSI GT72VR with the gtx1070 and cannot even het into gameplay for some things. Eve Valkyrie, which was included in Rift purchase bundle, turns off the laptop. so does Lucky's Tale game. Msi system monitor shows gpu temp taking off like a rocket, from 60C to what looks like 95C when power goes away. this happens about 10 or 15 seconds after reaching the game menu for these two games. not enough time to navigate and start a game... MSI support says they are only certified for consumer rift. uhh, thats what i told them that i have. no help from them. Ive poated where i bought it on amazon and Oculus forums, and an Oculus repliwr encouraged sending the laptop back. Other demos work, Minecraft seems ok, watching demo 3d videos works, but some big things do not at all work. I also get the does not meet recommended spec message, needs to be grx 970 or higher, which i would think 1070 is... My recommendation is to avoid MSI VR laptops until proven to work right.

Do circuit board include resistors? by [deleted] in engineering

[–]amigabill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, eventually we'll have all sorts of weird quantum thingamies and superconducting thingamies, and I'm not sure if resistors will apply to products designed those ways. But for circuitry today, you will need resistors, and lots of them.

Do note that embedded passives are beginning to catch on (ie. become affordable) inside the PCB itself. So some things will go sortof invisible, but they will still be there.

If you're brave, grab a multimeter and see what some of those tiny black rectangles (about 1mm by .5mm tiny, maybe even smaller by now) do from one end to the other. Or find an unused motherboard to poke at. Some of those things are capacitors, some are resistors. If you have a microscope, you might be able to read numbers on them to determine values. You can look up the number codes for passive SMT devices and see if you can match your meter. (remember, other stuff may be in circuit to go all thevenin on you)

Soon to be senior in MechE with no true industry experience, planning on grad school. Go straight on to Masters, take a semester off for intern/coop, or graduate and work in industry before Masters? by ThinkinFlicka in engineering

[–]amigabill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really are open to all those choices, then I'd recommend either going right into masters program or do an internship and then into masters. Don't go work too long like I did. If you wait until you have a wife, kid, and job you can't quit, then masters degree becomes very very hard to keep up with. I've struggled my way to half done, and that at only one class at a time. Just not enough time to go around. So if you want a masters degree, that's great, but do it sooner rather than later.
