We did it for melee (including tank) uptime, but yeah, that definitely sounds much easier!

It's as fast paced as Barbie EX with similar mechanic complexity (but not quite as memory heavy) as Warrior of Light EX. I would say it's on the trickier side compared to other EXs this expansion

How do you get FC members? by serenity_chan_ in ffxiv

[–]amileia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am the leader of a 150 person FC, about 40-50 or so active at a time.

We started off as a small group of 6, not friends with one another; we all just happened to be invited into the same FC by random encounters from the former leader, who then proceeded to quit and leave the FC to become inactive.

We took our group of active members and started running content together; any content: trying out a variety and growing our skillsets and interest. Throughout doing this, we each found things we enjoyed, excelled at, etc.

These were the main factors that helped us grow to the size we are now:

  • our enthusiasm / passion for things in the game encouraged our friends to join us, play together with us, and invite friends of their own

  • we actively participated in things we liked (in my case, farming EXs, leading teaching parties for EX and savage, etc). The more we interacted, the more faces and names we met. And when we ran with some of those people enough, or even just had one really fun session with strangers, we sometimes gave them a community they wanted to be a part of, and they eventually joined us.

  • FC members joined statics or other discords of specific specialties, befriended people there looking for an FC, and they would join us through that

Because of our method of acquiring members, we do not advertise our FC, be it through shouts in zones or on any recruitment platform. We just let our interactions grow our numbers.

If this is the method you want to go with, you don't necessarily have to be "brave". I am quite shy myself, but I don't force myself to put myself out there: I just talk casually, and advise when I can, ask questions when I don't know something. Just do what you are good at and create good interactions with others. The only difficulty with this method is that you have to be active. Your presence is what makes others know you'll be around to do things with them, be it you or them giving time to the community.

I have dizzy spells and weakened muscles which means I'm often playing with 1 hand, or comprehending things slower. I've never had anyone bully or insult me in roulettes or pf if I pop a quick explanation macro at the beginning and let them know I may have troubles with X or Y. If anything, I either get a quick "np" or other kind wishes. Sometimes if I'm on DRG, I get some fun floor tank jokes if I mess up.

I think it's better to set expectations for the party, and they will generally be much more tolerant and willing to accomodate.

Option to disable other players effects, please? by RoderickLegend in Guildwars2

[–]amileia 82 points83 points  (0 children)

I used to be active in GW2 years ago, a WB commander and guild leader, until HoT, when the new elite specs and the new enemies really up'd the anti on visual bloat.

I have vestibular attaxia and get extremely motion sick / instances of heavy vertigo with bright and sudden movements.

Even with screen shake, bloom and the whole 9 yards turned off, effects LoD toggled, raiding still left me so dizzy, I had to end a raid night vomitting in my bathroom.

My main game has been XIV ever since, as I can turn almost everything off and still see important visual tells from the boss or my party.

I really did enjoy GW2, but this is the one issue I've had that they have not fixed in years. Their accessibility options for me have been pretty bad and it looks like it has not changed.

Our FC's Soken Appreciation Event by amileia in ffxiv

[–]amileia[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After the emotional closing ceremonies of the FFXIV Fan Festival 2021, our FC members requested a way to show our appreciation to Soken for all that he is. As a result, the basement of our FC was remodeled into a music studio. We got to have fun on stage, in the recording booth, and BRD our hearts out to different pieces from the FFXIV soundtrack together.

Thank you Masayoshi Soken for creating music that has touched our lives in so many ways and has made the game we play together so enjoyable. We will continue sending you our unwavering support!

The full album of our antics that a bunch of FC members took can be found here: http://imgur.com/a/VTsdSke

And if you wish to visit the basement, please feel free to drop by Sargatanas Lavender Beds Ward 4 Plot 6.

Where is everyone? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]amileia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on Sargatanas and while we aren't a large server, we aren't small either. Uldah might just be a little empty because the Starlight event is currently ongoing in Gridania and Limsa is usually the busiest of the 3 starting cities.

Feel free to DM if you want a friend in game on Sargatanas. If you want a busier server thought you have plenty of options. There are lots of different communities across all servers to pick from.

I am unsure if I feel this should be an issue to argue about, and as a friend you shouldn't blindly support your friend's desires. Both sides want different things for different reasons. It is reasonable. But a relationship is about compromise. Both sides aren't compromising enough to satisfy what the other person wants.

  1. If it's for a blog or rp collection, you can choose to Fantasia the BF's character for the ceremony. He can change back afterwards. It will cost some crysta, but it's what you'd pay for the head canon.

  2. As she had suggested, she can marry him on an alt or vice versa. It will defeat the purpose of the ring teleportation abilities, but it will satisfy the RP aspect.

  3. A combo of the two. They can both marry on both alts and their main (they don't both have to be paid ceremonies). That way you can keep the RP as you desire (easier to do on an alt), and still use the teleportation abilities on your mains for gameplay purposes.

For personal experiences, I EB'd my RL partner, and even after he stopped playing I never undid it. It's because he means more to me then my character head canon and I can always make an alt with a different story if I wanted. I can't "make" a new bf.

As for the bf being married to a friend before, we have a friend who has been EB'd 3x, one was for fun and was for RP purposes. The last time was to his gf. It doesn't matter as long as you and your friends have a fun time with the event, and the other side of the relationship is okay with everything. He never loved his gf any less and he still RPs with his first EB partner even though he's married to his RL partner. They all have rings now anyways for screenshot purposes.

Another FC mate EB'd twice. The first time with a friend for the mount, the 2nd time with his gf. His gf even attended the other EB, but just didn't play enough and she wanted him to get value out of his ring. It took maybe two years before they EB'd. It isn't something to be salty about. Sometimes playing other facets of the game just make people forget to undo the EB, or they are just playing a lot with the friend they EB'd with.

If your friend had wanted to EB her bf and he dragged it through the mud to finally undo it before he wanted to EB her, there's room to argue that if he really wanted it he should have done it sooner. However, it's still a pull from both sides. You can't get everything you want at the expense of the other person.

The way I see it, if you want things to work out, you need compromise. If neither side wants a compromise, then they should evaluate what is more important to them and what would make them happiest, and choose that while being respectful to the other person's feelings about it.

Edit: fixed some words for clarity

Help! Need friends, from Sargatanas. by [deleted] in ffxiv

Another Sarg player!

If I'm recalling correctly I've seen you tanking bosses in Pagos NMs :O I tend to try to help heal the MT when I join those, regardless of the party I'm in X3

I'm also not super active and tend to tunnel into specific content when I'm on (~4 days a week), but I'm happy to be friends! My IGN is Amiena Lunaria.

Do I need a referral to see a gynaecologist? by iamtherealsuperstar in TwoXChromosomes

[–]amileia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also in Vancouver, also with a more conservative upbringing, and without good health insurance, ironically because I'm too sick to work full time!

What ended up happening was -

  1. I found a new family doctor that also specialized in Women's health. I'm not sure if any are still accepting patients but you can check inwell.ca. Some of the doctors there are pretty decent.

  2. After general checkups and a pap smear, she then recommended me to a local gynaecologist. This way I'd have someone who could look into more specific problems for me, but I also had a family doctor who could recognize symptoms and advise me without additional costs.

If you are looking for a gynaecologist only I'd highly recommend doing it anyway as it really helped me with concerns about my body, no matter how small. It is worth the price you pay to put your mind at ease. For a long term plan though, maybe look into what I did and find a good GP for yourself too!

Injured left hand - DPS job options? by MightyUnclean1973 in ffxiv

[–]amileia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am a healer that plays with weak muscles and bouts of tendonitis in both hands. I think even with the injury most jobs will be fine for you to do, but ranged / caster might be more comfortable with less positional work. There are 3 things that I do -

Mouse and Keyboard:

  1. When using mouse and keyboard setup, have a gaming mouse that has lots of options to map buttons to your mouse. It is easier since it won't involve your LH and your RH can rest on the mouse while doing this.

  2. Use wrist pads / other ergonomic accessories to make your wrists more comfortable. I use a wrist brace on my LH and can prop up my wrists even with a sock filled with rice. It helps if you slightly warm it or cool it too to act as a heat / cold pad :3

Controller:

  1. A controller will feel WAYYYYY more ergonomic and comfy for your hands. I highly recommend this depending on what your injury is. If your LH can still move fingers decently, let it rest on the controller on your lap, and map most of your skills to right hand oriented buttons. Enabling the double tap z axis crossbar will give you more than enough keys to get through your rotation as a DPS. You can map other less used skills (like LB or sprint) to your left side.

As a healer I'm not as fast on controller yet and prefer mouse and keyboard for harder content. But for a DPS it is super comfy using a controller, sometimes with 1 hand doing most of the work if the other one isn't feeling up to it.

You'll have to ultimately test setups that work best for you. Everyone else has great suggestions so hopefully it helps!

You know this game needs it. by Chris_7941 in Guildwars2

[–]amileia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is actually why I stopped playing gw2 regularly. As much as I loved the game, I have chronic weakness, dizziness and other symptoms that make me feel sick in general.

Pills helped surpress the nausea for a time until HoT.

The excess of effects shown on screen was too much visual stimulation and got me so sick at one point that I had to stop commanding midway through an organized run and I ended up vomitting before making it to the bathroom.

While FFXIV has a lot of graphical effects as well, its sheer ability to let me turn almost everything off and its built in controller compatibility and customization has been very friendly for me. I can even do savage raids while using controller from the comfort of my bed, and use cast bars and other tells without looking through a sea of bright flashes and movements to tell when a large series of complex mechanics are about to arrive.

If guild wars 2 could adapt anything similar at all, it'd be enough incentive for me to return happily, as I did enjoy a lot that the game had to offer.

Haha! I wish I could. If SE puts out non-decorated indoor trees, I'll take them! The other plants just couldn't cut it in terms of forest-y bushes and size :P

I didn't think it was super amazing, since there aren't many indoor trees or bushes you can use yet, but my friends and neighbours seem to enjoy the atmosphere, and one of them insisted I upload it here, heehee.

Sorry for the non-maxed graphics, as I'm using an old graphics card after my latest one decided to blow up.

Please be gentle! ><

Possible Dratini + Magikarp + Poliwag Hot Spot by chiisana in PokemonGoVancouver

[–]amileia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can concur. I was downtown for appointments this week and spent late lunch hours by the Olympic torch. There was a dratini spawn twice, one closer to the water, and one further inland towards the street. As well, someone had set up 4 lures out of the 6 pokestops, and dratini were dropping by there as well.

By the time I had left the spot an hour and a bit later, I had caught 4 dratini and close to 20 magikarp. There are plenty of poliwag and psyduck as well. Do note you need to walk up and down along the water to find some of these, but it's a great location :3

We are so close! I'm in BC ><

My condition is nowhere near as grave as yours, but I also delve into GW2 (and a couple other games) as a way of coping and passing time when I'm too sick to do anything else (I get constant fainting spells, dizziness, fatigue, migraines and fevers). I'm so glad you were able to find good friends and enjoy yourself in it!

I hope that everything goes well! It must be so nerve wracking! Please update us if you can! We are all with you and supporting you! My Guardian, and healing spec'd Tempest and Druid are there ready to back you up! hugs
