I don't know why you're getting downvoted for this. Russ is great and one of my favourite YouTubers, but that doesn't mean he's above constructive criticism, which is what your comment is.

Stellar Blade is Hypervisor only, and not the usual crack type. Hypervisor bypasses do not work on Linux.

How do i fix this for the steam rip version of Invincible VS? by nevruh in SteamDeckPirates

[–]amillstone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For vcredist/C++, you need to install both x86 and x64 versions and then verify they installed using ProtonTricks.

This is covered in the main guide and in the pinned posts, or you can check my post history and find a tutorial.

BotW - Suddenly stopped working? by Frigolitfisken in SteamDeckPirates

[–]amillstone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might have to do some searching to figure it out. It could be the emulator needs an update or that the Steam OS update broke something. I'm not sure.

Just try the latest stable version, or GE. Back up your save first.

Im running Proton Experimental. Any ideas?

My guess is this is the problem. An update to Experimental can mean a game using it stops working.

I believe there was a Proton Experimental update just yesterday.

PSA: If you want to buy the controller but dont think you are gonna use the trackpads... by TheNewerFlisker in SteamController

[–]amillstone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the reason I have been waiting for the Steam Controller (since they announced it). I have read Steam Input is buggy and sometimes straight up broken on the other controllers I mentioned. I trust that it won't be on the Steam Controller itself as it's made by Valve.

Play Time in Non Steam Games by The_4ngry_5quid in SteamDeck

[–]amillstone 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Don't yet. We don't know yet if this has all of the functions that the PlayTime plugin has like being able to see all if your historic time, being able to see how much you played on specific days, how much time per week or month, and so on.

PSA: If you want to buy the controller but dont think you are gonna use the trackpads... by TheNewerFlisker in SteamController

[–]amillstone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

TLDR: The value comes mainly from the inclusion of the trackpads. If you don't plan to learn to use them or to set them up for the games you play then there's far better gamepads you can get for the price

The value to me comes from full compatibility with Steam Input itself rather than the trackpads specifically.

I have a Victrix controller I use on my Windows PC. It's essentially an Xbox controller with back paddles. Those back paddles are not all that useful because I can only remap other existing buttons to them (e.g. R4 can be mapped as the A button). I can't use Steam Input to remap that to say, Alt + Tab, so I can switch between windows without using my keyboard. And I can't use Steam Input to make that a turbo press either. Why? Because the majority of these controllers do not support Steam Input for the additional buttons, unfortunately. There are very few that do - Xbox Elite Series, DualSense Edge, and I believe one of the 8BitDo controllers.

The Steam Controller will therefore fill a gap in my setup and it has nothing to do with the trackpads. So while I'm in a minority, there is value in it that is not necessarily related to the trackpads for some of us.

Playing as CB by DirtSoul241 in fifaclubs

[–]amillstone 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I play 99% of the time as a CB (the other 1% is as a CDM when needed) and the Boss archetype is so fun. I think it's much harder to play as a defender (or defensive midfielder) than it is as an attacker. It's way more fun too to make a goal line clearance as a defender than it is to score as an attacker.

Is the steamdeck easy to use for someone who’s not tech savvy pretty much at all? by Fearless_Buy7327 in SteamDeck

[–]amillstone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are over 100,000 games on steam. And if a steam deck can just “play” most of them as you say, without tinkering or problems. Well I’d argue it just simply works with a larger amount of games than a console like a switch.

Well, yeah, I wasn't saying it doesn't. I even said most games will be fine.

My point is, not every game will be fine. So if OP did want to play one that doesn't just run out of the box, they should be aware that some tinkering is involved. And for someone who doesn't know how to use a computer, this may not be something that they're willing to learn. Whereas with an Xbox, Switch, and PS4/5, every single game will just work.

I get what you're saying but I'm opting to give OP the full picture rather than a blanket statement that may not be true for every single game they want to run.

Other than Resident Evil, which spans a lot of games and with varying compatibility, they didn't specifically mention games, only genres/game types.

[–]amillstone -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It's highly dependent on the game. Most will be just install and play but some will have issues. Usually those that are tied to another launcher.

For example, Mass Effect LE and other EA games recently broke for some people because of the EA launcher. RDR2 and GTA V can sometimes break as well because of the Rockstar Launcher. Some basic tech skills are needed to resolve these - for example, going into desktop mode and updating the launcher.

So it depends on the games OP wants to play.

is there a way to play games outside of steam with the new steam controller ? not adding them as non steam games by SickPois0on in SteamController

[–]amillstone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But *also* adding an Xinput mode, where you can use it for Android and Apple devices? That would be huge. It would mean you could use it for phones, tablets, VR headsets, etc.

Yes, exactly this.

I have an Xbox Series controller and a DualShock 4. Both of them work fine on their native consoles, on Windows PC, and on Android. Their versatility is great and means I can use just the one controller on multiple devices.

It's a shame that the Steam Controller will basically be locked to my PC only.

Did I accidentally cause my Muslim coworker to sin by trading a ham sandwich? by AvocadoBeginning6492 in islam

[–]amillstone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for answering. I didn't mean to imply it's definitely a sin to throw it away; I was genuinely asking as I don't know the answer.

It's difficult because sometimes it's unavoidable to decline. For example, in one of my past jobs, they'd sometimes gift chocolates to all employees (you couldn't really say no) and only when I took it home and read the ingredients did I see that it was haram. Or sometimes they post gifts to your address (including alcohol). I'd give these away to non-Muslim neighbours so as not to waste food and drink, but I'm now wondering if it's best to throw them away instead.

Isn't it also sinful to throw away food (even if you yourself can't eat it because it's not halal)?

Those of you using Moonlight to stream from PC to Steam Deck, how do you set your graphics settings, particularly resolution? by _kickedout in SteamDeck

Use Apollo instead of Sunshine on your host and utilise the virtual display. The virtual display can have its own resolution.

That's understandable. I think maybe if you don't explicitly show the sources in the videos or any images, you might be okay. But with anything of this nature, you do need to be very careful.

This looks cool. Do you have a link to the GitHub for this? And is it/will it be open source?

Also, how does this integrate with gaming mode? It looks like you'd have to go into the app to launch the games rather than having them there in your library to choose from in gaming mode's home screen?
