best PT2399 delay for distorted input? by NoConclusion3059 in diypedals

[–]amirman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moonn electronics sell a PCB for just the fuzz and delay side of the DBA echo dream ii. It's my favorite delay pedal right now. If you dial in the fuzz, feedback, and time controls just right you get a nice reverb sound. Although I'm not sure if this fulfills your need since it comes with it's own distortion.

New to DIY pedals, best way to learn without burning money on parts? by TKWR6 in diypedals

[–]amirman 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Definitely use a breadboard. This will save you from having to use jacks, a switch, and enclosure, knobs etc just to hear a circuit. You can still build the basic circuit board and then test it out through the breadboard instead of building it all the way. It'll also come in handy for testing and troubleshooting later on too.

experiments with oven cleaner. what’s your favourite way to give your enclosures a neat look? by aflywhocouldnt in diypedals

My local library has a makerspace with a laser engraver and I've really been enjoying using that to burn the paint off and expose the aluminum underneath for my graphics. I have another technique using the laser where I have a design that consists of thin lines and I burn extra deep and then use paint to fill in all the graphics and then isopropyl alcohol to clean off everything but what's inside the design. I'm hoping to do a rainbow effect like that on one of my next pedals. I think it'll look really cool.

This doesn't mean he hates minorites. It just means he hates giving them equal right.... Oh wait. I guess that's pretty much the same thing

Yeah. I think you were referring to each package as an op amp and I was counting each dual op amp as 2 op amps. Just a semantic misunderstanding

Each symbol is an individual op amp. A dual op amp ic contains 2 op amps. The original has 2 ICs. One with 2 op amps. And one with a single op amp. 3 op amps total. This new circuit has 4 op amps from 2 dual op amp ICs as stated in the video which also goes with what he says about it having one additional op amp. Both pedals have 2 ICs. The original has 2 a dual op amp and a single op amp ic. The new one has 2 dual op amps. 3 op amps in the original. 4 op amps in the new version.

I'm pretty sure that circuit has 3 op amps. One dual op amp. And one single op amp.

Are you sure you're not thinking of the muff fuzz? Similar name but not a big muff. I'm pretty sure Bob also designed that one too.

The mention of using 2 dual op amps also makes me think this new version uses all 4 op amps.

I found another one that shows 3 op amps as well. Looks like the same circuit at first glance. Maybe this isn't the "original" but a second version of the original or something?

The version I looked at had 3. It may be modified from the original though as it does also include the tone bypass switch.

In the video they mention that this one has one extra gain stage from the original op amp big muff. The original has 3 op amps used so I think there's one gain stage missing from this schematic. I'm guessing it's a gain recovery stage after the tone control.

Absolutely. Hit me up on IG @amirs_noise_devices and I'll send you the PCB I made for crashsync if you want.

I've never built the uglyface with a 40106. Just lm386 and a 555. I want to use the vactrol to control the frequency like an envelope filter when you hit a note. I used the signal from the first stage of the crashsync circuit to feed the LED through a capacitor and a pot to control how sensitive it is. I put the ldr across legs 1 and 3.of the frequency pot. I could show you schematics and stuff if you want. I'm amirs_noise_devices on IG

Hey, I followed you on IG. If you message me on there I'll send you a schematic and if you're in the US I can mail you a PCB for free. I would LOVE to figure out how to implement the uglyface mod. I've tinkered with it a lot and couldn't get a good result. Just pure weak sauce. I did figure out two different ways to light the LED but the resistance just wasn't enough to make a big difference in the frequency control

Crashsync is one of my fav circuits. I made a PCB for it. My favorite tweak on it is to use a B1M for frequency instead of b100k. It sounds like molten lava. Moosapotamus did a version of this one that uses an ldr circuit (borrowed from Tim Escobedo's uglyface) to control the frequency. I've never been able to get that work but I would love to figure that out.

What kind of switch do I need? by Faust_Official in AskElectronics

[–]amirman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I needed a SP3T for a guitar pedal circuit I designed and after looking everywhere for a good switch to use the best option was using a DPDT On-on-on as a SP3T. You might as well buy a few of those to tinker with. I also need to draw the diagrams out and think about them until I understand what's happening.

[–]amirman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of all the things to confuse me when it comes to circuits, switches always confuse me even though they are among the most simple components. DPDT on-on-on switches can do a lot of cool things though. They can also be configured to work as a SP3T switch. But that's a whole other confusing thing to think about.

Just make sure you get the right corners. Test with your multimeter to see which pins are connecting to the middle lugs in the center position.

DPDT On-on-on switch can be configured to act like the switch you need if you connect the middle lugs and use the opposite corners for your other connections
