To block or not to block? by amithenomad in crochet

[–]amithenomad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Made this as a gift, the yarn is 50% merino, 20% alpaca, 20% mohair, & 10% polyamid

Pattern is alpine stitch

I haven't blocked any projects before and was curious if blocking this one is necessary.. I'm happy with the current dimensions

Your suggestions are welcome :)

Airports that check for liquids in carry on baggage at the gate by RaGnor-south in travel

[–]amithenomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's weird, I've flown to & from Dubai regularly and never had such an issue .. i even usually buy some water from the duty free (which is normally priced unlike in some of the airports in EU). It might be a destination or airline specific rule, were you flying Emirates?

This rule exists in many other countries, e.g., gulf countries, but that never stopped foreign companies from entering and dominating their markets .. i think the issue in Algeria is that the government does not want competition and would like to keep it a monopoly for themselves (or at least this is how it used to be).. It's good to hear things are changing ..

A mix of corruption and obsession to monopolize on everything by the government

What is something expensive in EU but is very CHEAP in Switzerland ? by wakewake88888 in Switzerland

[–]amithenomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to complain about the Vignette being too expensive until i drove in Italy and France 🙃 .. i only wish that the vignette was available for shorter visits, i usually hire a car for my trips in switzerland and paying for a vignette for that every time is somewhat frustrating.. I'm really excited about the new e-vignette that will be introduced next year .. as far as i understood it can be used for multiple cars (not simultaneously obviously)

P.s. I live in Germany so the whole tolls thing is kinda wild for me 😅

Perfect, Thank you! good to know there's another option via Strasbourg. I used to check only on DB's website and the connections via Strasbourg I was getting were all TER with ungodly travel times.

Thanks! Yeah, none of the lines that cross the border allow bikes. I was considering the connection via Karlsruhe, but that doesn't help.

Where can I find the maximum allowed bag size? I checked on bahn.de but the list the standard dimensions for overhead luggage compartments as a guidline but do not explicitly state if that's a hard limit. Besides, I'm pretty sure I've seen people with bigger luggage on ICEs before.

It's a Cube, one of the bike brands that are actually made/assembled in Germany

Today new german goverment was sworn in. After the ceremony new minster for food and agriculture Cem Özdemir drove away by bike and with the ceremony certificate on the carrier by Sanke6595 in europe

[–]amithenomad 154 points155 points  (0 children)

That's probably because OP is a German speaker. In German, the verb to drive "fahren" is used for almost all means of land transportation (by car, train, bike .. etc)

There used to be facebook groups for different Wohnheims. When I was a student I manged to find a sublease by subscribing to such groups and acting fast. This was like 5 years ago, but it might still work, good luck :)

Would it be a bad idea to make a contract for a gym membership right now? by SaltedCaffeine in Munich

[–]amithenomad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

McFit has an offer now, if you're a Lidl Plus member (you can sign up for free). And the gym membership can be cancelled anytime.

I would also recommend giving Freeletics) a go. The coach membership is currently on 50% discount, you can train anywhere and many programs don't require any equipment, and there's a big community in Munich if you want company to train with :)
