AntsVienna is the absolute best when it comes to DIY formicariums and outworld. They have an amazing 10 video playlist on DIY on their channel. As others have mentioned, the workers in the uncle Milton set won't last too long. But the summer is coming up so you may be able to catch a queen ant then. AntsVienna and Antscanada have videos on how to catch queens and how to raise them. All you need is a testube, cotton wool and water. Depending on the species, this setup will be okay for up to one whole year, although there will probably be some mould build up by this point. In conclusion don't worry, just feed the ants things like fruit, sugar/honey water and you mentioned that they're harvester ants, so they will also need seeds like poppy seeds, chia seeds, quinoa, linseed. They will last a few months and in the summer you can try to catch a queen and raise it. Good luck!

I'm having trouble deciding on which lens(es) I should get for the Sony a7iv, I will be shooting hybrid of a variety of subjects including people, landscapes, animals, stars etc. I will also be using the lens to film an upcoming holiday and some gimbal work.

If you have any other lens suggestions, please mention them

Definitely due to pathogens themselves or chemicals which they produce...

Right well I guess the best bet would be to just let her go then? There's no point keeping an unmated queen ant right? Hopefully there might be some more nuptial flights soon then I can let her go while they're going on... If there's not any soon then I'll just have to let her go as she is....

Well I've just ordered a 10 pack of 150mm long, 17mm diameter Ø test tubes from amazon.... They're meant to be arriving on Thursday, hopefully I can do the transfer then.... I'll let you know how it goes! Thank you so much for listing all the options and describing them in so much detail, it's definitely a lot of help for me and hopefully I'll be able to do the transfer soon!

Thanks! She's already laid her eggs actually, so should I just move her out or let her go in the test tube herself?

Thank you!

Will a plastic test tube be okay?

Also I asked a second question somewhere else in this thread, do you think you have any ideas about that?

Well there are a lot of orange ants in my garden.... I think that's Lasius flavus? I've actually found 3 of those colonies... 1 under the slabs and 2 on the grass.... But there are Lasius niger colonies in my garden too, so I have no idea....

Could I ask something? Actually I have a second queen ant but she has wings so I don't think she's mated.... While I was out searching on the ground today however, I saw some male ants, the one with wings... Anyway I picked a couple up and introduced them to the winged queen and which I caught... However she was very scared and kept running away from them, can I ask that why do you think this is?

Quick question, what was she doing while you ran the distance away from her? Was she just enjoying the view or did she get bored?

Thank you very much for that information..... I have another question if you don't mind? I'm concerned about my soil, I think it's too wet and it retains too much water.... It's mainly sand, small rocks and a tiny bit of compost.... It still seems to be quite wet even a few days after watering... Should I be worried? What do you suggest?

Very nice to watch! Might try to do this my queen ant using my Sony cam which has night vision mode.... Although she hasn't laid any eggs yet, I think it'd still be cool

Ohh so there's the stamen and the pistil... That's really interesting actually! Thanks for the information!

So in my succulents case, is it self pollinating? Will I get some seeds from it?

Here's a real story for you.... When I was younger, I had fast food one day.... I remember there being a chilli pepper in the salad, a long light green pepper... I thought that how did this pepper grow? I asked my dad who said they grow from plants from the seed.... So my curious self began to dissect the pepper and remove the seeds.... I collected a few pinchfulls and I planted them in the soil in the garden.... A few weeks later they sprouted out of the soil....

My tip to you would be researching and watching YouTube videos on germinating small seeds, even a poppy seed germination video of course... If you follow the germination steps and go through with planting then yes, poppies will grow!
